Without any gusting winds trying to rip the trees out of the ground for a change this morning, I dressed on the warm side, and although a light spritzy drizzle, I made it out for my morning walk. A solid milky gray cloud cover from horizon to horizon. How great to get some of those cobwebs out of my legs again. After yesterday's mentally and physically lethargic day, it was a feel-good boost to be outside and walking. I didn't let a lack of sunshine and the threat of rain at any moment deter me. Following my brisk walk, I headed back home because the gravelly country roads were soft and squooshy from yesterday's and last night's rain. No point in going any further and turning Subie into a mud puppy.
MY SHOES GOT A WEE BIT MUDDY ON THE SOFT GRAVEL ROAD THIS MORNING
The north side of my unit here at the Bayfield Pines never gets any sun and is prone to the gathering of mildew along the soffits and the siding. With no sun to shine directly into my eyes while looking up, I figured it was a good day to get my ladder out and get at those white soffits and beige siding. It is very unsightly looking with green mildew on both the siding and the soffits. Of course, I could always get a few gallons of green paint and paint the soffits and siding green. That way, I'd never notice the mildew. Ya right, squash that idea!! So, I tackled the mildew problem, and never even fell off the ladder once. I also cleaned the west-facing soffit and siding on the carport. No aerial arobatics for that one because I could easily reach everything with a long-handled brush. I also spent another hour cutting away at that nasty and invasive Oriental Bittersweet vine I was talking about a few days ago in my blog. Its tentacle vines are tightly wrapped around just about anything it could find out there. It has been quite a job cutting it all out of a cedar tree, which it had nearly strangled it to death. I think the cedar will survive now. I sure made up today for the time I lost yesterday:)) A SLIGHT SPRITZY MIST IN THE AIR THIS MORNING
Searching for an article in my blog's archives today, I came across something I wrote about on May 23rd, 2009, and it had to do with dreams. Here are those thoughts.....Ever wonder about dreams? I am a light sleeper so I frequently wake up 3 or 4 times during the night. Not very restful but I do dream a lot & I figure the reason I remember parts of my dreams is simply due to the fact that I don't slip into that deep heavy sleep for the entire night. I have also learned that as I am waking up from a dream, I can remember it better if I don't open my eyes. I liken it to opening the back of a camera with a roll of film in it. As soon as the light hits the film, the film is ruined and any images are erased. Same thing with the brain so if I'm coming out of a dream, I resist the urge to open my eyes & look at the clock. Well, as long as it was a good dream anyway. I try to go back into the dream sometimes but it usually begins to quickly fade & I'm only able to retrieve bits & pieces most of the time. I like the flying dreams best as I float over trees & people on the ground. I have never remembered a landing but my takeoff is always the same. I take about 4 quick steps forward & then I very daintily step up into the air & begin to float skyward. Sometimes I fly very fast, but most times I just kind of move along slowly, hovering over things here & there. And sometimes there are others in the air with me, but they don't seem to fly quite as well. Meeting old friends is another part of the dream process I enjoy. People from 50 & 60 years ago drift in & out. No rhyme or reason but all of a sudden there they are & I'm talking to them. Could be someone I only met once or twice decades ago or it could be a current or long time friend. The people who have the most impact & leave the longest lasting memories for me are the ones who have passed away. In any dream sequence, a departed friend or relative may appear & it is always such a good feeling inside to once again see & talk to them. And then they drift away into the mist & a sadness fills the void. It's those dreams that I try to hang onto as I'm waking up. I try to re-enter the dream & run after that old friend to see them just one more time but they are gone until they re-appear in a dream again to once more put a smile on my sleeping face..................And, here's something I came across years ago that deals with Astronomy and Astrology. I found it very interesting. People sometimes confuse Astronomy with Astrology. Although related in ancient myth they are literally light years apart in the realm of fact & fantasy. Here is a brief explanation of the difference...."Astronomy is a science that compels us to seek beyond ourselves and our small world, a science of discovery that enriches our lives by exercising our brain and our intellect. It empowers you to think clearly and rationally. It improves and sharpens critical thinking skills." It may even encourage you to free up your mind to think beyond conventional religious beliefs"............... Astrology disempowers you. By placing your future in the accidental configuration of planets and stars, you avoid taking responsibility for your actions, you fail to make decisions based on your own best self interest, and you give up the power to control your own destiny. Belief in astrology results in a degradation of critical thinking skills, which, combined with the loss of power to control your own destiny, can only serve to degrade your life, not enrich it." "Be in charge of your life. Experience the mystery, awe, and excitement of observational astronomy..............................................
SOME CROPS ARE ALREADY BEGINNING TO APPEAR IN SOME NEWLY PLANTED FIELDS
Al's Music Box:: Time In A Bottle by Jim Croce.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( There's a man named Ralph that goes into a bar, looking very depressed. A friend approaches him and asks, "Why the long face, Ralph?" "Oh, I'm just bored. I know every person in the entire world now, and there's just nothing left to challenge me." His friend says, "No, you can't know everyone. Do you know Paul McCartney?" He says, "Sure, Paul's an old friend of mine. Here, I'll show you." He goes over to a phone, dials a number. His friend overhears a British accent, "Hey Ralph, how ya doing?" He talks for a while, but when Ralph hangs up, his friend is not really sure that it was Paul McCartney on the other end of the line, so he asks him if he knows the president. Ralph says, "Sure, we go way back." This time, he lets him listen in as he calls a private number. It sounds like the president on the other end of the line, and they go into a big discussion of the current economic scene, and Ralph offers a few suggestions. Drawing the conversation to a close, Ralph wishes him well and hangs up. His friend is a little dumbfounded at this point. "Well, there must be someone that you don't know." He goes over a few more people in his mind, and thinks, 'He can't possibly know the Pope. After all, he's a Protestant.' But Ralph claims to know him, so to convince himself otherwise, his friend decides to fly both himself and Ralph to the Vatican to get positive proof of Ralph's conviction. So they arrive at the Vatican, and Ralph suggests that his friend wait out in St. Peter's Square until Ralph has cleared things with the Pope. He's standing in the courtyard, when who walks out onto the balcony of the private residence, arm in arm with the Pope, but Ralph. Ralph looks down, sees that his friend has apparently passed out, and runs down to see what can be done for him. "What happened to you? Couldn't you accept the fact that I really do know the Pope?" "No, I'd begun to accept that possibility. But what really took my breath away was some stranger standing next to me who said, 'Who's that guy standing there with Ralph?'"
