| SATURDAY NIGHT'S SETTING SUN AS SEEN THROUGH EASTLINK'S COMMUNICATION TOWER ON TOWERLINE ROAD....I TOOK THIS TELEPHOTO SHOT FROM PARR LINE |
With old Sol slowly settling into the horizon Saturday night, I took myself for a slow reflective walk along the gravel road at my little spot in the country. There are times on these walks by myself as of late that my mind becomes introspective, and I drift off into the past year's happenings. I think a lot of Kelly, Pheebs, and my good buddy Richard. I think of things I should have said, things I shouldn't have said, and I think of all the good times too. The happy times, the sad times, and the everyday times. Following my walk, it was a slow drive through the countryside on a longer way home. With old Sol disappearing for the night, my attention focused on the beautiful half Moon in the southern sky. I stopped on a hilltop and turned the car off, and just sat there for awhile staring at the Moon with all the unanswerable questions in my mind that many people have on a warm summer's night with the Moon and stars in the heavens above. So many questions and so few answers. But, I guess it's meant to be. Without that touch of mystery in our lives, how ordinary life may seem. It was one of those nights I wanted to sit under the night sky forever, and not go home. Well, not my Earth home, that is. But, I am looking forward to someday returning to my forever home somewhere out there, among all those beautiful stars.

With the exception of two smartphone pictures, I didn't take any photos with my camera today. However, looking through a few of my past blogs for Kelly and Pheeber pics, I came across some photos of me working away at putting my cactus garden together at our Congress, Arizona house about a dozen years ago. Also, some photos of Pheebs early in 2012 while boondocked a few miles south of Congress. (before we bought the house) Pheebs always had a way with other animals, and while boondocked here, she made friends with a herd of local cows.

Despite the chilly night, my walk this morning was accompanied by a soft, warm breeze out of the southwest, and I thought to myself, this is about as good as it gets. Despite my not carrying a camera, it was a slow walk as I stopped often to chat with the butterflies, the flowers, the bees, and the trees. I am so grateful to be in tune with nature now, more so than I was years ago even though I always did sense a connection. I see it as a pleasant aging process now of heightened awareness, and finally, a welcome acceptance mixed with an ever-growing sense of understanding.

I think Monday's prediction of it being hot and humid has slipped into our area a day early. I had things I could have been doing outside today, but I opted for the coolness of the house. I don't need to be outside and end up feeling like a tube of Elmer's Glue. I moved some furniture around again, dusted, and vacuumed Kelly's room, the spare room, and the sunroom. For brunch today, I rustled myself up a two egg omelete, and for supper, it was Woodsy's homemade chicken soup followed by half a dozen gobs of peanut butter and a few snorts of honey. I certainly do eat well here.

Happy to say that it is over a week now since I bought my new recliner, and so far I do not have any complaints. It's perfect for me to sleep in, and that was my biggest concern. In fact, it may be too comfortable because I keep dozing off in it almost every time I sit down.
 |
| SOMETIMES WHEN I AM OUT AND ABOUT, I USE MY SMARTPHONE TO TAKE A FEW SELFIES OF MYSELF TO SEND TO WOODSY IN STRATFORD IN HOPE SHE DOESN'T FORGET ME |

| SATURDAY NIGHT'S HALF MOON |
GROANER'S CORNER:(( A man is sent to prison for the first time. At night, the lights in the cell block are turned off, and his cellmate goes over to the bars and yells, "Number twelve!" The whole cell block breaks out laughing. A few minutes later, somebody else in the cell block yells, "Number four!" Again, the whole cell block breaks out laughing. The new guy asks his cellmate what's going on. "Well," says the older prisoner, "we've all been in this here prison for so long, we all know the same jokes. So we just yell out the number instead of saying the whole joke." So the new guy walks up to the bars and yells, "Number thirty-two!" This time the whole cell block rocks with the loudest laughter, prisoners rolling on the floor laughing hysterically. When the guffaws die down, the bewildered new guy turns to the older prisoner and asks, "How come you guys were laughing so hard this time?" "Oh," says the older man, wiping tears from his eyes, "we'd never heard that one before."----------------------------------
Late one night at the insane asylum, one inmate shouted, "I am Napoleon!"
Another patient asked, "How do you know?" The first inmate said, "Because God told me!" Just then, a voice from another room shouted, "I did NOT!"

The little Moron was shopping at Target & came across a shiny silver thermos. He was quite fascinated by it, so he picked it up & took it to the clerk to ask what it was. The clerk said, 'Why, that's a thermos.....It keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold.' 'Wow, said the little Moron, 'that's amazing.....I'm going to buy it! 'So he bought the thermos & took it to work the next day. His boss saw it on her desk. 'What's that,' he asked?
'Why, that's a thermos.... It keeps hot things hot & cold things cold,' he replied..His boss inquired, 'What do you have in it?'
The little Moron replied......'Two popsicles & some coffee.'

Al's Doggy World
Meanings::
Kelly & Pheeb's Corner
Al, the first part of your blog today put a lump in my throat. But you say it so well, and feel the emotions so intently that it's easy to understand and share those feelings. Pheebs and her cow friends ... such wonderful photos of gentle giants and their new friend. And I remember those lovely cactus and agaves you planted in Congress, loving the way the paths are curved. Too bad there's no former neighbour to send you a photo of how it all looks now. Good that you don't have to return that recliner...and also good that you're eating Woodsy's chicken noodle soup.

ReplyDeleteThe photos of Pheebs with the cows are priceless….how cute she was showing them her toy
A thoughtful and poignant post tonight. I also, being in my old age, think about the rest of my life that will soon be over. I hope that when we have gotten to heaven, that we can connect with all the heavenly beings and also with those we have known on earth, including all the animals that were part of our earthly lives. As the hymn goes, "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing thru ; my treasures are laid up, some where beyond the blue ; the angels beckon me, from heaven's open door, and I can't feel at home in this world anymore."
ReplyDeleteW O W... ❤️ it !
DeleteMy experience with cows has been the same - that they are curious and gentle beings. We spent a summer camping amongst them in Alberta, and 20 years later I still haven’t eaten one since ❤️
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of Pheebes with the cows are so darling, thanks for the smiles!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the cows with Pheebs pictures are priceless. I think the cows thought she was a little calf. Ha! So cute! Also, I loved seeing Kelly with little Cora.
ReplyDeleteAl, thank you for such a touching, wonderful post. I also enjoy Kelly and Pheebs' corner. The artwork you choose is always enjoyable, I don't know where you find all those great images. I am also moved to thank you so much for all the joy you have brought to me over the years through your photos and posts. You are always part of my day.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every current moment Al. I too loved that Congress cactus garden.
ReplyDeleteReally excellent post today, full of the poignant yet hopeful thoughts many of us are feeling as we age. And I join the rest, Pheebs and those cows! Blessings to you, sir, and carry-on.
ReplyDeleteA lovely reflective post Al. Comforting in its depth and heart. Those vivid orange balls are amazing :-) And oh yes Pheebs with her fan club of cows is just too fun. What a sweet soul she was, loving all the humans and critters she encountered. And patient with Kelly getting that sticker from her paw. Love the last gallery piece with the little girl viewing her world much as you were.
