I RIDE MY E-BIKE LIKE I ONCE DID MY MOTORCYCLE

Wednesday:: Kind of a nothing burger day until late afternoon, when we headed off under wind-swept sunny skies for a ride on our E-Bikes.  East out of the Park on Bayfield River Road, we biked a couple miles to Tipperary Line and turned north.  With strong wind gusts trying their best to blow us backwards, we finally turned around after another mile and headed home.  Undaunted, after supper, and with lighter winds, we again saddled up the bikes, dressed warmer, and headed on into Bayfield.  After a short cruise around town, and with a smaller line-up at Rosie's Ice Cream Shoppe,  we snagged a bench seat across the road in front of Bayfield's Little Inn.  Finishing our cones and with the sun already down and the coolness of night quickly descending, we mounted up and headed for home with our bright bike headlights leading the way.

Thursday:: The second day in a row for a cloudless sky.  On the west side of my walking road is a wheat field, and I have watched this field grow ever since early Spring.  From little green shoots to fully grown wheat stalks.  I have enjoyed watching the field mature, and I feel kinda sad that any day now, it will be all gone.  Turning onto my walking road this morning, I saw a large green combine sitting at the corner of the wheat field and knew my gently waving wheat field would soon be no more.

I FULLY EXPECT TO SEE THIS WHEATFIELD GONE IN THE MORNING

Home after my walk, I put the bike carrier on the back of the Subaru, and with Woodsy's help we soon had both E-bikes safely on the carrier and secured.  We headed for a spot north of Goderich where we have biked before and parked at a trailhead spot just a few hundred yards west of Tiger Dunlop''s Tomb.  The trail here is the old railway line that once ran between Goderich and Guelph, Ontario.

FROM THE TRAILHEAD WE WILL BE FOLLOWING THE OLD RAIL LINE THROUGH THE WOODS AT THE RIGHT TO THE MENESETUNG BRIDGE ON THE HORIZON
We headed west on the rail line towards the northwest corner of Goderich.  The trail leads to the Menesetung Bridge, which crosses the wide Maitland River.  The bridge is about a mile east of where the Maitland River empties into Lake Huron.  We pedalled along the flat rail bed through the forest and crossed the bridge, turned right and headed west along the north side of the harbor.

With 18-wheeler trucks heading into and out of the salt mine, swirling up dust, we soon turned around, recrossed the Menesetung bridge, and headed east past where we left the car.  We biked for another couple of miles before finally turning around and heading back to the car.  From there it was into Goderich for a few groceries, and then home.  I was thinking today as we were biking how differently Woodsy and I ride our bikes.  Lorraine (Woodsy) is a serious exercise person and avid bicycle rider, and while riding her E-bike, she seldom uses the 'electric power' option.  She likes to feel the burn in her legs.  In other words, she rides her bicycle like a standard bicycle.  I, on the other hand, don't much care for that burning leg exercise stuff and pretty much always have pinch or more of bike power going on when I'm pedaling.  I like the wind in my hair and the speed.  In other words, I ride my bike like I once did my motorcycle.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A guy is at the driving range having a heck of a day. Every time he tries to hit the ball he tops it, and it only goes about 20 feet. Finally disgusted, he turns to the pro on the range and mutters,” If I don't connect with this one, I'm gonna jump in that pond over there and drown myself!” The Pro looks at him and says” I don't think you can do it.” “Why not?” he asks. The Pro says “I don't think you can keep your head down that long!”

A woman was found guilty in traffic court, and when asked for her occupation she said she was a schoolteacher. The judge rose from the bench. "Madam, I have waited years for a schoolteacher to appear before this court." He smiled with delight. "Now sit down at that table and write 'I will not run a red light' five hundred times."

  2. Marilyn Struthers: I understood your feelings about the wheat field. I felt like that about corn fields too. Your bike riding photos reminded me of places where Danny and I been. We had ordinary bikes and loved taking them on rides. However when we moved here the hills were just too big--but we did lots of walks. Being outside in nature is the best.
