| PERHAPS A VERY EARLY TOUCH OF AUTUMN |
Another fine summer's night for being out and about Monday evening. Both the Moon and the Planet Venus were the first two prominent objects in the sky after sunset. As darkness fell, I spotted a bright object low to the horizon to the west. Too bright for a planet, so out came my binoculars, and I watched this thing for close to ten minutes, trying to logically figure it out. It was yellowish in color with touches of a few red points at the perimeter. At first thought it was a small aircraft heading my way with its landing lights on. But, the object never moved. It did not come closer or move to the right or left. It just hung in the sky very low above a distant tree line on the far away horizon. It was due west of me in the direction of Lake Huron. Finally, it faded and disappeared into the horizon. Then, as I turned to my left, I saw what looked to be the same object many miles to the south in the direction of Bayfield. With that, I quickly hauled out my tripod to mount the binoculars on for steadiness. I watched this object for a while and finally noticed a green light as well. 'A-ha', I thought, that has to be some kind of aircraft, and sure enough it was. I estimated it was flying north along the coastline, and I was able to see both of its wing lights, and I think a pulsing white light. So, I have to assume that the first object I saw was an aircraft as well. But why so bright and stationary for so long?? Plus, aircraft do not have landing lights facing rearward. Also, while I had the binoculars on the tripod, I scanned the sky in the direction of the constellation Scorpius and was rewarded with seeing the most satellites I have ever seen. I think with my poorer vision now I just haven't been seeing them, but with the binoculars focused to each individual eye, the stars were as clear as a bell, and the moving satellites were easy for me to spot. I'm guessing upwards of a dozen. How magical it was as I watched the straight-trajectory stars (satellites) flying around in all different directions, crisscrossing and following each other as they trekked across the star-studded night sky....This morning, I was accompanied by both Monarch and little yellow butterflies again on my walk, and if skies clear up a bit, I will be back out under the stars again tonight:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A friend asked a gentleman how it is that he never married ? Replied the gentleman, "Well, I guess I just never met the right woman ... I guess I've been looking for the perfect girl." "Oh, come on now," said the friend, "Surely you have met at least one girl that you wanted to marry." "Yes, there was one girl .. once. I guess she was the one perfect girl... the only perfect girl I really ever met. She was just the right everything .. I really mean that she was the perfect girl for me." "Well, why didn't you marry her," asked the friend. "She was looking for the perfect man," he said.----------------------------

Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. He didn't have to hear about all the men she could have married, and she didn't have to hear about the way his mother cooked.

A group of tourists were looking down into the depths of the Grand Canyon. "Do you know," asked the guide, "that it took millions and millions of years for this great abyss to be carved out?" "Well, I'll be darned," exclaimed one traveler. "I never knew this was a government job."

A noted biologist, who had been studying little green frogs in a swamp, was stumped. The frog population, despite efforts at predator control, was declining at an alarming rate. A chemist at a nearby college came up with a solution: The frogs, due to a chemical change in the swamp water, simply couldn't stay coupled long enough to reproduce successfully. The chemist then brewed up a new adhesive to assist the frogs' togetherness, which included one part sodium. It seems the little green frogs needed some monosodium glue to mate.

Marilyn Struthers: You know so much about the night skies---very interesting. I am going to sit out on my porch with a cup of tea and watdch the night come. It is very peaceful doing that. We have so many trees here so I don't get to see a lot of the sky but it is quiet and peaceful and quiet and I do see some sky. There are only 3 houses in this woodsy area---very private--next to no cars in the cul-de sac
