On this cold, damp, and drizzly, dark, cloud-shrouded, rainy November morning, I set off out the door with an A&W bacon-and-egg breakfast coupon clenched tightly in my hand. Cranked up Subie, got some heat going, and off I went to Goderich. Luckily, there was hardly anyone at A&W, and I was able to snag my quiet little two seat corner table. All comfy cozy was I. The breakfast was fine, but halfway through it I became aware of something. I just wasn't enjoying bacon and eggs like I once did, and this was the second or third time that this had happened. I have noticed over these past few years that my taste for things has been changing, and foods I once really liked, like bacon and eggs, just don't taste the same for me as they once did. And then this unexpected thought went through my mind....'I may never pass this way again'. Oh dear, what am I going to do with the 25 A&W breakfast coupons I have saved up now? Okay, okay, so I don't have that many, but I might have if they hadn't kept putting those darned expiry dates on them. Oh well, in the immortal words of a great seafaring philosopher, 'It are what it are'.

With these dour days upon us now and winter soon setting in, I am already scratching at things to write about, as readers probably can tell. My outings are already curtailed, and interesting photos are becoming harder to find. We'll see what happens. Oh, and that great seafaring philosopher?? Well, 'Popeye the Sailor Man' of course:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( There was a student who decided to take an admission test for an upcoming study course. He was smart enough to get through the written test, and moved on to a personal interview. Later, as the interview progressed, the interviewer found this boy to be bright since he could answer all the questions correctly. The interviewer got impatient and decided to corner the boy. "Tell me your choice;" said he to the boy, "What's your choice: I shall either ask you ten easy questions or ONE real difficult. Think well before you make up your mind." The boy thought for a while and said, "My choice is ONE real difficult question." "Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice!" said the man on the opposite side. Tell me: What comes first, Day or Night?" The boy was perplexed at first but he waited for a while and said: "It's the DAY, sir." "How did he figure that out," the interviewer thought to himself. "Now I've got him." "Sorry sir, you promised me that you would not ask me a SECOND difficult question!" Admission for the course was thus secured. William Bennett recalls when one of his "radical students" at Boston University announced that he and his girlfriend were getting married for "as long as we feel good about each other."
It seemed rather temporary to Dr. Bennett, so for a wedding present, he says, "I gave them paper plates.
