MY SON DROPPED IN TO SEE ME TODAY

After my Friday night phone call to Aunt Jean, who by the way is doing fine, I headed out the door under a canopy of stars and wasn't long in arriving at my night sky viewing place.  The cool night air was so clear that I was able to easily see the Milky Way despite my compromised eyes. (cataracts)  A lot of constellations were clearly visible, and I saw eleven high-flying aircraft, one meteor, one iridium flash, and two satellites.  It's always amazing to think that in each of those aircraft, there are two or three hundred people inside a round metal tube between six and seven miles high in the dark night sky, traveling five and six hundred miles an hour.  And many of them are probably sound asleep, and the ones who aren't can't see the ground or where the heck they're going anyway.  I think I kind of like it down here with my feet planted firmly on solid ground.  Oh wait a minute, it was so dark out Friday night with no Moon....that I couldn't see the ground either.

My son Sean messaged me last week from Beamsville, Ontario, wondering if I would be available today if he dropped in for a visit.  It had been four years since I last saw him, and it was great to see him roll into the driveway this morning at 10:30.  We had a lot of catching up to do.  I am so proud to see the fine young man he has become, and I am so pleased that my love of music passed on from me to him, and in much bigger ways than I could have ever imagined or hoped for.  Sean Croley...Music Engineer. The weather was nice enough for us to sit on our front porch, and after a couple of hours we headed to the Woodland Drive-in where Sean bought me lunch.  Of course, I had my usual foot-long hot dog with the works.  Sitting at a picnic table in the warm Sun, I was glad that we were able to talk about a few things that we had not talked about previously, and I felt much closer to Sean at that time.  After I forgot to stop at Tim Hortons for a couple of coffees to go, we were home again, and our conversation on the porch continued till after 3 p.m. when it was time for Sean to begin his long two and a half hour drive back to Beamsville.  All in all, it was time well spent today, and I was finally able to make a few important decisions based on our conversation.  I hope to be seeing more of Sean in the future.  And his lovely wife Kim as well.

Al, so glad to hear Aunt Jean is ok. Also, how wonderful to have had your visit with your good looking and talented son Sean. It sounds like a precious visit with some healing taking place. I am happy for you! Love your night time photos.

  2. Oh, I'm so excited your son came to visit. I remember the last time he was at your place, but on a motorcycle, right? And didn't he have a horrible motorcycle accident not long after???? (my memory ... arg). I'm glad he not only fully recovered but am thrilled that you and he had such a wonderful meeting. And the apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree, Al, with his career in music!!!! Plus he's such a spitting image of you!!!! How wonderful ...
