A GOOD MEDICAL REPORT, ROADS WEST, & A GOODBYE TO THE VANCOUVER GANG…………

DSC_0018

Another superbly gorgeous Autumn day here in Southern Ontario.  Busied myself raking up pine needles & puttering about the rig a bit.  Coach batteries checked again.  Generator & engine oils checked.  Windshield washer fluid added etc.  Probably will not do the final bin loading until about a week from today.

My Doctor’s appointment this afternoon went well.  All prescriptions for 6 months of travel taken care of.  I hadn’t expected any miracles when it came to my cholesterol levels being down but was pleasantly surprised when my ‘off the charts’ bad LDL had dropped substantially into the acceptable numbers range.  In my case a miracle after years of high cholesterol levels.  My Nurse Practitioner was very pleased about that.  So, I will stay on Crestor.

After picking up my prescriptions at Walmart I immediately opened & popped a couple Arthrotec pills in hopes of quickly getting my legs feeling better again.  Don’t know what kind of magic is in that Arthrotec medicine but it sure has helped me over the years with my stiff, achy, & sore legs.

DEW DROPS ON A LEAF & A BIRDS FEATHER

Pheebs & I headed over to Deer Park to say good-bye to the Vancouverites about 5:30 this afternoon.  Kelly was already there.  Little Adara was crying because she had to say goodbye to Pheebe.  Hugs all around & it may be a long time before I see Sarah, Bradley, Adara, & Gabriel again.  Kelly will see them once more this Monday when she drives over to Cambridge for Thanksgiving.  All of Kelly’s 5 kids will be under one roof.  A rare event not to be missed for her.  Pheebs & I will hold the fort here in Bayfield.

Thanks to everyone for responding about my blog’s background color.  Seems everything is OK & it apparently just depends what ‘readers’ some folks use to read my posts with.  FRED did confirm the ‘white background reader’ thing.   I’m not familiar with those ‘reader’ programs so not exactly sure what they are or how they work.  Probably just as well I don’t know.  Just something else to confuse me.

Going to start monitoring the weather now west of Chicago & out across the plains of Iowa, Nebraska & Kansas.  May already be too snowy in Colorado for any kind of mountain crossing through there so may dip down New Mexico way.  If weather isn’t good across the Plains we may just slip down into Arkansas & pick up a few parts of our old route we used a fair bit a few years ago.  We’re not in a real big hurry so we probably will not use the shortest, fastest, route through St. Louis & Oklahoma City.  In the end we’ll likely just opt out for the warmest route on our roads west a week from Saturday:))

Sure has been a long summer but yet it seems to have gone fast in some ways.  We didn’t get to do the traveling we had hoped to do because of medical issues etc.  By next summer we should be outfitted with a solar system again & for us that will make a big difference to our style of travel.   We need our freedom, our space, & our serenity:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((    An inexperienced real estate salesman asked his boss if he could refund the deposit to an angry customer who had discovered that the lot he had bought was under water.“What kind of salesman are you?” the boss scolded. “Get out there and sell him a boat.”

AUTUMN COLORS & THE VANCOUVER GANG’S LAST NIGHT IN BAYFIELD

DSC_0015

Quiet in the forest this morning except for a lone noisy Blue Jay high in a tree along the trail. Ground is covered in Pine needles & Autumn leaves. With clear night skies we have a heavy dew leaving everything on the wet side each morning. Sunlight slipping through golden leaves casts a warm glow on the wet forest floor giving each night's dew drop it's own sparkle.

Legs feeling better this morning so my best Jeep Buddy & I were out the door & on the road by 9. After sitting around most of Tuesday I knew we were needing ourselves a good blast of fresh air & some relaxing country scenery. First stop was Clinton's Tim Hortons for a coffee & a muffin to go. We got it right this morning & didn't hold up anyone behind us by sitting at the wrong window. Renovations are well underway on the buildings exterior as well as interior.

Headed ourselves out to the Hullett Marsh again for a walk but we stayed reasonably close to the Jeep. I had forgot about it being hunting season & the gunfire in the surrounding area meant we had to be mindful of where we were.

Can't say enough about what a great dog Pheebs is. She just listens so well, never needs to be on a leash & comes when called. She loves riding in the Jeep & often sits right up in the front seat just like a little person. When we stop she waits until I tell her it's safe to get out of the Jeep & never runs off out of sight. She always stays within a hundred yards or so & keeps me in her line of sight. If she is out of sight in some brush or grass I can instantly bring her on the run with two claps of my hands. What a pleasure she is to have along on our country drives. Kelly often takes her along as well if she has to run into Bayfield's Library or Mennonite Country Market. Do you know that since having Pheebs for over 2 years now we have never heard her growl even once. And no matter what kind of food she has in her mouth she will always let us take it out of her mouth if needed. If we would have tried that with Max or our little Cora we would have lost an arm.  She has the gentlest nature of any dog I have ever seen.  Not a mean bone in her entire body.

We wandered a few roads & made a few stops. Our forest bush lines are still not in full color & I'm guessing maybe next week. Am also beginning to suspect the Autumn colors may not be as spectacular this year as in some other years. I think the degree of Autumn colors may be closely based on the weather. We have not had night time temps below freezing yet & that may have something to do with that.

We were home by noon.  Had a rest & raked some pine needles up.  Kelly, at Deer Park phoned to say they were down on the beach & come over with Pheebs so off we went.  Sarah, Kelly, & the kids were enjoying the great Autumn day by the lake.  Took another bunch of pics, loaded Sarah, Gabrielle & Adara in the Jeep & drove them back up the steep hill from the beach.  Couple hours later we were all at our house for supper.  The Vancouver Gang is headed back to Cambridge Thursday so tonight will probably be the last time we see them.

THANKS FOR THE JEEP RIDE UNCLE AL:))

Sure has been quite an experience having a couple very active little 4 year olds around.  Kelly has had a lot more experience with kids than I have.  I basically don’t have any except for a few great years in the mid eighties when I & a little person became very close for about 4 years & had ourselves an absolute blast.  We specialized in driving her Mother bonkers with our zaniness:))  Great fun filled treasured memories.

NAN left a comment saying she missed our black background. I haven't changed anything & when I checked my blog the background was still black. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing my blog with a background other than black.  Wonder if it has something to do with maybe viewing it in either Google+ or Facebook. Reason I chose a black background for my blog years ago was to enhance the clarity & color of my photographs. Photos generally always look much better against a dark background as opposed to a light background.  I would hope readers are seeing my blog as I have intended it to be seen.  Black background not white.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge he asked her, “What did you steal?” She replied: “a can of peaches.” The judge asked her why she had stolen them and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied 5. The judge then said, “I will give you 5 days in jail.”
Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment the woman’s husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something. The judge said, “What is it?”
The husband said, “She also stole a can of peas.”
