WITH CAMERA IN HAND I WAITED PATIENTLY FOR THE BIG STORM TO COME ASHORE

DSC_8181

I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THOSE CLOUDS BUILDING  UP THIS MORNING KNOWING IT COULD MEAN THE LEADING EDGE OF AN INCOMING WEATHER FRONT LATER

I could probably sum up my day in four words.  Reading, snoozing, televisioning, and computerating.  Yes, stuck in the house again today except for a short Jeep ride with Pheebs this morning. (and a last minute storm chase this afternoon)  Our same old country road route southeast of Bayfield which had us back home within the hour and only one short leg stretch along the way.   And most of that time I had to keep the pedal to the metal just to outrun the swarms of Deer Flies chasing us down the road!!

HERE IS SOMETHING EXTREMELY RARE IN OUR AREA AND IN ALL MY COUNTRY ROAD TRAVELS AROUND THE AREA THIS IS THE WORST DUMP OF GARBABE I HAVE EVER SEEN……A COUPLE MILES WEST OF CLINTON ON BANNOCKBURN LINE ABOUT A MILE SOUTH OF BAYFIELD ROAD WITH GARBAGE DUMPED ON  THE WEST SIDE

I think today had to be the hottest one of the current heat wave but according to weather forecasters relief is just around the corner and it could come with a bang.  Alerts were already out  earlier today warning of severe thunderstorms as colder air approached.  Our 90’s plus temps could drop into the high 60’s very quickly and for me that can’t happen fast enough.

With severe thunderstorm warnings issued I checked our live Exeter Ontario radar feed and sure enough I saw storm cells forming up over Michigan and headed our way around 4 this afternoon.  Grabbed my camera and headed over to Bayfield’s Pioneer Park atop the tall bluffs overlooking Lake Huron.  Horizon looked dark out over the lake and seemed promising.  Thunder could be heard but after waiting about half an hour I could see the storm split with most of the bad stuff heading south down the lake.  No big bad ominous storm clouds headed for Bayfield which is too bad because we really do need a good soaking rainfall.  Did take a few photos anyway of boats racing for the safety of the harbor as the storm loomed on the horizon.

Happy to say tonight at the time of posting that today’s heat is finally backing off and we have already dropped to a very pleasant 73F already.  Should be into the 60’s by morning and that definitely is one great big ‘Yahouie Louie’ for sure………..10-4:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((  From school and for homework a boy was assigned a paper on childbirth and asked his parents, "How was I born?"  "Well honey..." said the slightly prudish parent, "the stork brought you to us."  "Oh," said the boy. "Well, how did you and daddy get born?" he asked.  "Oh, the stork brought us too."  "Well how were grandpa and grandma born?" he persisted.  "Well darling, the stork brought them too!" said the parent, by now starting to squirm a little in the Lazy Boy recliner.  Several days later, the boy handed in his paper to the teacher who read with confusion the opening sentence: "This report has been very difficult to write because there hasn't been a natural childbirth in my family for three generations."

I USED TO LOOK LIKE HIM MANY MANY MOONS AGO

DSC_0002-005

A few days ago I had read the large freighter Algorail was due to be towed out of the Goderich harbor today July 4th so Pheebs and I were in the Jeep and off to Goderich to get us a few photos of that first thing this morning.  We rolled down into the harbor at 8:20 a.m. but the Algorail was nowhere to be seen.  Drove down to Rotary Cover, stopped and hauled my binoculars out expecting to see it out in the lake somewhere.  Nope, it was gone and despite carefully scanning Lake Huron’s horizon it was totally gone.  Wasn’t until later in the morning when Pheebs and I returned home that I checked the Goderich Sunset Site and scrolled down Donald R Jeffrey's site that I saw the Algorail had actually left Goderich the night before right around sunset.  Donald and others have photos of the freighter being maneuvered in the Goderich harbor and this morning passing under the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia on it’s way to the scrapyard in Port Colborne Ontario.  For the Algorail it is the end of an era……………

Friends and fellow RV’ers Caron and Chris had to slip off to the Toronto Airport today so Kelly and I with Pheebs slipped over to their place a couple times to take Dixie outside and get some supper for her.

Unfortunately this uncomfortable hot weather is keeping me inside these days so I really don’t have a lot to offer in the way of words and new photos again today.  Fingers are crossed this heat wave will end in a few days.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.

10 years later at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food there was great and the wine selection was good also.

10 years later at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they could eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.

10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheel chair accessible and they even had an elevator.

10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there before.

A guy had just returned from two weeks of vacation. He asked his boss for two more weeks off to get married.  "What?" shouted the boss, "I can't give you more time now. Why didn't you get married while you were off?"  "Are you nuts?" he replied. "That would have ruined my whole vacation."

WE STARTED OUT COOL THIS MORNING THEN ENDED UP BACK IN THE WEATHER’S HEAT FURNACE AGAIN:((

DSC_8139

How nice it was first thing this morning to finally step out into refreshingly cooler air.  Felt like leaping into the air and doing a double back flip.  No I've never done a double back flip before but by golly I almost felt good enough about the change in temperature to give it a try.  Of course that nice cool morning air didn’t last too long:((

Earlier today with Pheebs watching out the living room window Kelly and I drove over to the Bayfield Berry Farm nearby where we met good friends and neighbors Gayle and Richard for breakfast.  We were the only ones there and it was nice and quiet until some younger families came in with screechy kids and you know how that can be like fingernails on a chalkboard for some of us Seniors so we had to eat up, pay up, and get the heck out of there retreating back to Gayle and Richards for coffee and peace of mind.

Unfortunately our day once again quickly heated up driving us inside to escape the miserable high humidity.  I slipped out just long enough to take a few photos of our front yard frog pond and that was it for my outside activities.  Not a long post tonight and I think I'll just wrap it up by simply saying, thanks for all your continuing support folks.  Much appreciated by Kelly, Pheebs, and I here at The Bayfield Bunch:))

GROANER'S CORNER:((  The skydiving instructor was going through the question and answer period with his new students when one of them asked the usual question always asked: "If our chute doesn't open; and the reserve doesn't open, how long would we have till we hit the ground?"  The jump master looked at him and in perfect deadpan answered: "The rest of your life."

A young couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the husband sarcastically asked, "Are they relatives of yours?"  "Yes," his wife replied. "I married into the family."
