THE VET PHONED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WITH THE RESULTS OF PHEEBS SEBACECEOUS ADENOMA TUMOR

DSC_0739

Phone rang this afternoon at 1:05.  It was our Veterinary Doctor Earl calling with the lab results of Pheebs recent tail surgery.  All news is good and there is no sign of cancer.  It was a Sebaceous Adenoma  Tumor.  ‘Sebaceous glands are microscopic glands found below the skin. They secrete an oily substance, called sebum, which lubricates the skin and hair of animals. Tumors of the sebaceous and modified sebaceous glands are quite common in dogs.  These tumors are usually benign in nature’.  Pheebs external tumor was benign:))

Despite heavy rain showers Friday night our day dawned bright and dry.  Another nice morning for a couple hours in the countryside complete with a short pre-humidity walk in the Hullett Marsh.  How nice driving along with windows down listening to the constant sound of Crickets in the ditches.  For those of us attuned to nature we can sense the subtle changes in the air heralding the coming of Autumn.  It always begins about the middle of August and if you take the time and interest to tune yourself into it you will sense it.

I’ve had it in mind for awhile to figure out something to set in beside my driver’s door and the seat.  Some kind of a standing narrow shelf affair to hold a cup of coffee, my camera, a complete set of 1967 Encyclopædia Britannica books, and a healthy stack of Peanut Bluster sandwiches.  Well, not having much of an engineering mind or any woodworking skills I had to call on our good friend and woodworking specialist Bruce to see what he thought of my idea.  Well he nixed the complete box set of Encyclopedias of course and quickly hauled out his tape measure and engineering ideas and set to work figuring out what I had in mind.  Bruce has done a few other projects in our RV’s over the years and they all end up being top notch workmanship.   You might have a little trouble envisioning what this project is but as soon as it’s done and Bruce has it in place I’ll have some pictures for you.  Say, you didn’t really believe me about those Encyclopedias did ya:))

Pheebs tail has been healing up really well and she hasn't been picking at it.  We are so happy we didn't have to put a plastic cone around her head and I am sure she is happy about that too.  She goes back to the Vet next Friday morning to have her 3 stitches taken out.  What an absolute little Tweetsie Pie she is and every day she is the shining light of our lives.

Figure we will leave for the Maritime Provinces on Sunday September 16th.  The city of Toronto is about a 4 hour drive East of us so we’ll slip through there on the quietest morning of the week.  Years ago I was often eastbound to Pearson International Airport right smack dab in the middle of the morning week day rush and it’s not a place a person wants to be if they don’t have to be.  And we don’t so a Sunday morning it will be.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A mother was anxiously awaiting her daughter's plane. She had just come back from a far away land trying to find adventure. As the daughter was exiting the plane, the mother noticed a man directly behind her daughter dressed in feathers with exotic markings all over his body and carrying a shrunken head. The daughter introduced this man as her new husband. The mother gasped in disbelief and disappointment and screamed, "I said for you to marry a RICH Doctor not a WITCH Doctor!!!!

An elderly man goes into his doctors office for an annual physical. After a while, the doctor comes out and says, "I'm sorry Bill, but we have discovered you have a condition which only allows you another 6 weeks to live.""But Doctor," Bill replied, "I feel great. I haven't felt better in years. This just can't be true. Isn't there anything I can do?"After a moment the doctor said, "Well, you might start going down the street to that new health spa and take a mud bath every day. "Excitedly Bill asked, "And that will cure me?" "No," replied the doctor, "but it will get you used to the dirt."

A MAJOR CHANGE TO OUR TRAVEL PLANS THIS WINTER

DSC_0685

With a predicted chance of rain overnight I left the Jeep parked outside in hopes of Mother Nature giving it a good wash.  By 6:30 this morning Mother Nature did just that.  Our wheelbarrow rain gauge showed we had a quarter wheelbarrow load of rain.

Despite this mornings on and off again rain showers little Spoogins and I took our usual drive to Goderich with all the routine stops thrown in.  Only other stop was Jenkins Auto Wreckers to inquire about some winter wheel rims for our heavy duty desert sand and snow tires.

NOT SURE WHAT’S GOING ON HERE BUT I’M GUESSING IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A WEDDING

There has been a major change to our winter travel plans.  We had been considering a Plan B to our Plan A Oregon-California-Arizona trip for awhile and finally Thursday after discussing things again we decided to shelve our Oregon coast plans.  We will be leaving the same week-end as originally planned but instead of heading West we have now decided to head East.  New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia including the Cabot Trail will be some of our destinations.  We discussed Newfoundland but it’s too expensive to take the Motorhome on the ferry and it’s too long a journey to leave Pheebs in the Motorhome below decks.

There are a number of reasons behind this decision with several of them being some health concerns on both our parts.  With the cost of our travel insurance rising ($3000 this year) we’ve decided to base the majority of our travels right here in Canada where our health costs are automatically covered just in case of a problem.  Also, Kelly is happy not to have to deal with Verizon again.  Always way to expensive, stressful, and often problematic.  No having to switch to an American phone plan either.  And this trip would only rack up a third or half as many miles as the Oregon trip and of course would be much less stressful for us.  This trip would also include a stop at Kelly’s Mothers in Spencerport New York on the way back.   Kelly has never been to Canada’s East coast so that is another big factor.  And of course I’m sure there are some other reasons we haven’t even thought about yet.

THREE LITTLE TUGS ALL IN A ROW MAKES ME THINK BACK TO  LARRY, CURLY, AND MOE

Okay, so what about Winter.  We hope to spend about 6 weeks on the road and return to Bayfield maybe late October or mid November depending on weather.  Whether we’ll stay home for the rest of the winter or maybe head south somewhere is anybody’s guess and we’ll make that decision after we get home.  Travel insurance goes by the day so the less time spent in the States the cheaper the insurance.  Times are a changing for us here at the Bunch and we just have to roll with those on-going changes and make the best decisions that are right for us.

IT WAS A RAINY MORNING FOR A COUNTRY ROAD WALK

Sanitized the Motorhomes fresh water tank this afternoon, drained it and added back about half a tank for now.  Ran up the generator for a bit too and maybe tomorrow Pheebs and I will take it out for a short exercise run around a few paved country blocks.  If it’s not raining that is.

LOOKS LIKE AN EARLY MORNING LADIES BREAKFAST CLUB MEETING

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A farmer purchases an old, run-down, abandoned farm with plans to turn it into a thriving enterprise. The fields are grown over with weeds, the farmhouse is falling apart, and the fences are collapsing all around.  During his first day of work, the town preacher stops by to bless the man's work, saying, "May you and God work together to make this the farm of your dreams!  "A few months later, the preacher stops by again to call on the farmer.  Lo and behold, it's like a completely different place--the farm house is completely rebuilt and in excellent condition, there are plenty of cattle and other livestock happily munching on feed in well-fenced pens, and the fields are filled with crops planted in neat rows.  "Amazing!" the preacher says. "Look what God and you have accomplished together!""Yes, reverend," says the farmer, "but remember what the farm was like when God was working it alone!"

HAIRCUT, SHORT SNORT, CLOUDS, RAIN AND PUTTERING

DSC_0652

Kelly’s barber shop was open this morning so I started my day off with a haircut on the back deck.  A short snort through the countryside for Pheebs and I.  Cloudy skies kept the Sun from boiling us up.  Sporadic rains came mid morning.  Accomplished some puttering and that was it for the day.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( The new army recruit was given guard duty at 2 a.m. He did his best for a while, but at about 4 a.m. he went to sleep. He awakened to find the officer of the day standing before him.  Remembering the heavy penalty for being asleep on guard duty, this smart young man kept his head bowed for another moment and looked upward and reverently said, “A-a-a-men!”
