OUR FIRST DUSTING OF SNOW FOR THE SEASON

DSC_4528

FIRST LIGHT DUSTING OF SNOW AT OUR HOUSE

It was 8:30 a.m. and it was snowing.  Not heavily but snowing nevertheless.  It was a short Jeep snort for Pheebs and I into Bayfield and around a few streets.  I always enjoy looking at the diverse and picturesque architecture of all the homes and cottages old and new.

PHEEBS AND I HEAD FOR HOME

Ten a.m. found Pheebs and I driving Miss Kelly to Goderich where she had a few errands to run.  Not knowing if the snow would get heavier or not I figured it was best to take the vehicle with the best tires.  The snows didn’t get heavier and later turned to a drizzly rain.  Errands done we decided to stop into Goderich’s Wendys and have us a look at their ‘value-meals’.  I think the last time we were in a Wendys together was nearly 20 years ago or so in Woodstock Ontario when Uncle Harry took us there.  A swing down around the Goderich harbor and twenty minutes later we were home again.

Try as I did I couldn’t convince myself to head outside into the cold damp and putter around in the flowerbeds.  Still things to do outside but they will just have to wait for an energy inducing warmer sunny day which may be upon us sometime in early May of next year.

Facebook keeps dropping these 11 year old timebombs on me so here’s where we were and what we were doing 11 years ago today.

WE SAW THIS SHIRT HANGING ON A BUSH AND WONDERED IF SOMEONE HAD LEFT IT THERE THEN WENT AND JUMPED OFF THE NEARBY CLIFF

It’s funny how I can’t remember things from a few days ago or even today but yet I can look at just about any of my countless thousands of photos over the years and I can instantly tell you where that photo was taken plus bits and pieces of that particular day.  That alone tells me something very important about my mind as well as others.  I believe our minds store the majority of our memories.  They are there and only need a particular something to key the lock of the vault they are stored in.  They are not gone, they are in storage.  My photographs are a key for me and one glance at a photo swings the memory vault door wide open.  I’m sure other people have experienced this as well.  Music is another memory trigger for many people.  A familiar song on the radio can instantly time travel a listener to a place and time in their past whether it be a couple days or decades ago.  Chances are you may have never remembered a particular memory ever again if a piece of music had not triggered it.  Ever been walking along past a pile of burning leaves or smell a campfire.  In a nano-second one’s childhood camping adventures are right there alive and well.  Yes, I think we all still have many of our life long memories stored away alright, it’s just the location of those misplaced keys to our minds many vaults we have trouble with……….

OH, AND FACEBOOK ALSO LET ME KNOW THAT A DAY BEFORE MOONFLOWER CANYON AND DEAD HORSE POINT WE WERE ALSO HIKING IN THE DEVILS GARDEN

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Mary and Jane are old friends. They have both been married to their husbands for a long time; Mary is upset because she thinks her husband doesn't find her attractive anymore.  "As I get older he doesn't bother to look at me!" Mary cries.  "I'm so sorry for you, as I get older my husband says I get more beautiful every day." replies Jane."  Yes, but your husband's an antique dealer!"

A man came home from an exhausting day at work, plopped down on the couch in front of the television, and told his wife: "Get me a beer before it starts!" The wife sighed and got him a beer. Ten minutes later, he said: "Get me another beer before it starts!" She looked cross, but fetched another beer and slammed it down next to him. He finished that beer and a few minutes later said: "Quick, get me another beer, it's going to start any minute!"  The wife was furious. "Is that all you're going to do tonight! Drink beer and sit in front of that TV! You're nothing but a lazy, drunken, fat slob and furthermore..."The man sighed and said: "It's started."

UP OR DOWN RIGHT OR WRONG

DSC_4461
A SPOT OF SUNLIGHT ON BAYFIELD’S INNER HARBOR
Looking out our living room window at first light I was encouraged to see it not raining.  To add a little smile to that encouragement I noticed a few patches of blue sky and a dapple of sunshine touching down through the tall pines onto a cluster of tanned oak leaves across our driveway.  It doesn't take much to lift my spirits sometimes and it is usually Mother Nature who is able to do that.  It is also Mother Nature who can tip me into the dumpster pretty quick too.

Once Pheebs and I had cleared our Park's forested tree canopy I noticed dark skies out over the lake so we headed for Bayfield's harbor.  Wednesdays high winds had churned up Lake Huron waters causing gray choppy waves to rumble in and break over Bayfield's harbor piers.

All sailboats are out of the water now and the disassembly of the temporary summer docks has begun.  Everything has to come out of the water or risk being damaged by winters ice along the river's edge.

A coffee to go at shopbike coffee roasters along Bayfield's main street and we were soon south of town graveling up Libby's tires again.  Keeping our speed down to about 20 mph we were able to have our front windows down with the heater on.  Pheebs likes to stick her nose out and inhale all those fresh country smells.  I like those smells as well but I keep my big nose inside the Jeep.

Home before ten I immediately insisted myself into some yard work hooking up our utility trailer and hauling a couple loads of accumulated yard waste to our Park's recycling area.  Raked up still more fallen leaves and got our outside water shut off and hoses drained.  Always a nice sense of accomplishment getting things stroked off one's 'to-do' list.  Took down a couple rain soaked bird feeders and will maybe try them again after rainfall has turned to snowfall.

Below average temperatures for this time of year have local weather experts calling for possible snow in some parts of our area Friday.  We’re in the 30’s at the moment but noticed next week back up into the balmy 40’s maybe.  Beach weather:))

I’m assuming EdD in our Shout Box is perhaps a new reader.  Yes there has been some trying days of late and Wednesday was truly miserable.  Long time readers know I do have my up and down days alright but to say “You always seem so determined to be miserable” is incorrect.  I take exception to the word ‘always’ and although I do have a tendency to get down on myself at times there is another whole up side to me that I believe is very often evident in the majority of my posts.  Being a daily blogger I have a choice every day when I sit down in front of my computer.  I can tell readers honestly how my thoughts and feelings came together for the day or I can fluff and fancy it all up saying everything is wonderful.  The latter part of that sentence is just not me so I plan to stick with the former and keep things honest.  Up or down, negative or positive, good or bad, right or wrong, I try to face each day in realistic way…………..

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A newly ordained priest, nervous about hearing confessions, finally asks an older priest to observe how he does and give some tips. After listening in on the second confession, the older priest suggested that the younger man fold his arms, maybe rub his chin with one hand while saying phrases like "I see" or "I understand" or "Yes, my child. Go on". The young priest puts the suggestions into practice and later tells the older priest how much it has helped getting more information from his flock. "You've done well," said the older man. "Isn't that much better than slapping your knee and yelling 'No way! So what happened next?'"

DISMAL DAY NOT MUCH TO SAY

DSC_4457

A very typical dismally wet and cold gray November day.  Temperatures dropping, snow on the way by the weekend.  There’s no point in me even trying to think of something to write……..

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Mr. See and Mr. Soar:: Mr. See and Mr. Soar were old friends. See owned a saw and Soar owned a seesaw. Now See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw before Soar saw See, which made Soar sore. Had Soar seen See's saw before See saw Soar's seesaw, then See's saw would not have sawed Soar's seesaw. But See saw Soar and Soar's seesaw before Soar saw See's saw, so See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw. It was a shame to let See see Soar so sore just because See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw.
