DID WALT DISNEY ONCE LIVE NEAR BAYFIELD ONTARIO??

Taking a look outside first thing this morning I thought, 'the heck with it'!!  An overnight snowfall had dumped about three inches of snow on us and it was still snowing.  About the only thing moving outside later this morning besides the birds was me and my snow shovel.  Took me about forty minutes to get my paths cleaned out and decks shoveled.  With the bird feeders topped up, I headed back inside the house and stayed there.

ALTHOUGH WE STARTED THE DAY OFF WITH A VERY SNOWY MORNING WE ENDED THE DAY WITH SUNSHINE
 PURPLE FINCH
With the amount of reading I have been doing this winter I am probably going to need an eye transplant soon.  I think these old orbs of mine are wearing out.

I finished another short biography today and this one was about Walt Disney.  No mention of his briefly living in Canada as a young boy though.  He and his family supposedly lived just a few miles from here north of Holmesville.  There is a short road in that area called Disney Road which I mentioned in my blog a few years ago....... Where Was Walt Disney Really Born.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  Two cowboys come upon an Indian lying on his stomach with his ear to the ground.  One of the cowboys stops and says to the other, "You see that Indian?"  "Yeah," says the other cowboy.  "Look," says the first one, "he's listening to the ground. He can hear things for miles in any direction."  Just then the Indian looks up. "Covered wagon," he says, "about two miles away. Have two horses, one brown, one white. Man, woman, child, household effects in wagon."  "Incredible!" says the cowboy to his friend. "This Indian knows how far away they are, how many horses, what color they are, who is in the wagon, and what is in the wagon. Amazing!"  The Indian looks up and says, "Wagon ran over me about a half-hour ago."

OH WELL, NOT TO PINE OVER DAYS GONE BY I GUESS

Our overnight freezing rain didn't happen.  Well, at least not the freezing part that is but the rain did continue and it played a big part along with yesterday's +40F temps in melting a lot of snow.  That melted snow turned to water of course and that water formed wet ice underfoot.  I'm sure a number of folks were probably injured today around the area from slipping and falling on the icy surfaces.

IF THAT WAS FLAT ICE IT WOULDN'T BE SO BAD BUT IT'S BUMPY ICE AND THAT'S THE WORST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE

THE ONLY WAY TO GET AROUND ON THIS ICE IS TO VERY SLOWLY AND VERY CAREFULLY SHUFFLE YOUR FEET
OH SO NICE TO FINALLY SEE SOME GREEN GRASS AGAIN
ICE HAS BROKEN UP IN THE BAYFIELD RIVER AND  OPEN WATER IS VISIBLY FLOWING
IT WAS ONLY A FEW DAYS AGO I TOOK A PICTURE OF AN ICE FISHERMAN OUT THERE
ICE IS BUNCHING UP UNDERNEATH THE BAYFIELD BRIDGE
NICE TO SEE OPEN LAKE HURON WATER WAY OUT THERE AGAIN
Pheebs and I headed into Bayfield to check out our usual points of interest then headed for the cemetery where we were both able to get out for a limited walk.  First walk of the year for us.  Cemetery roads were all ice but we found some green grass to walk on under a number of towering old pine trees.  We couldn't go too far but it was better than nothing.  It's probably going to take a big effort on my part to get my legs back in shape again.  This has been the most sedentary winter I have ever spent.  Nobody to blame but myself of course because I could have gone out and trudged around in the snow and below-freezing temperatures.  I simply chose not to do that.  I sure have missed our Arizona rock scrambles these past few winters.

 CEMETERY ROADS WERE VERY ICY
HOW NICE TO FIND SOME GRASS TO WALK ON
YEP, THAT'S THE JEEP WAY DOWN THERE

Every day Facebook throws me memories from our traveling days in the great American Southwest.  Sometimes I'm okay reminiscing about those days and other times I'm not.  I guess it just depends on what frame of mind I am in at the time.  It's nice to have a record of our travels in both words and photos but it saddens me when I see how much more active and alive we were just a few years ago compared to now.  Yes, there were a lot of stressful traveling times that's for sure but we had so many great times through those years as well.  The places we went, the things we saw, and the things we did.  Oh well, not to pine over days gone by I guess.  This is now and that was then. As I post this tonight it is once again snowing.  Here's an average day from just one of our adventuress travel years.  Bye Bye Borrego, Maybe See Ya Next Year

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A guy sees an advertisement in a pet-shop window: "Talking Centipede $100."  The guy goes in and buys it. He gets home, opens the box and asks the centipede if he wants to go for a beer.  The centipede doesn't answer, so the guy closes the lid, convinced he's been swindled. Thirty minutes later he decides to try again.  He raises his voice and shouts, "Do you want to go for a beer?"  The centipede pokes his head out of the box and says, "Pipe down! I heard you the first time. I'm putting on my shoes!"

AND FOR YOU SANTA CLAUSE FOLKS.....IT'S ONLY 312 LONG DAYS TO CHRISTMAS

Our 43F temperature today is definitely an anomaly in this current freezing cold weather pattern we have been locked into for so long.  Not for residents to worry about though with freezing rain on the way turning into snow tomorrow.  Gee, we certainly wouldn't want to get used to temperatures above freezing now, would we!?!?

I THINK I MIGHT SEE A MAPLE SYRUP SHANTY IN THERE
Needing a few things in Goderich this morning, Pheebs and did our usual route there and back.  Gas, McDonald's coffee to go, a swing down around the harbor and out to the cove, Walmart, and home.  The last couple times I got gas at the Solo gas bar Pheebs wasn't with me and the lady attendant there missed her.  When we rolled in this morning with Pheeb's head sticking out the rear driver's side window I heard the lady shout 'Pheebs' 'Pheebs'.  I don't know who was more excited, Pheebs or the lady.  Pheebs was excited because she knows she always gets a treat there and this morning she may even have got two:))

OH OH, I BOAT IN TROUBLE ON THE ROCKS??
NOPE, IT'S THE TUGBOAT OCEAN A SIMARD MOVING AROUND BREAKING UP ICE IN THE HARBOR MOUTH
THIS IS A POPULAR AREA FOR CANADA GEESE TO HANG OUT FOR THE WINTER
GULLS FLYING OVER GODERICH'S ICE PACKED HARBOR
CANADA GEESE MATE FOR LIFE
The new doggy steps are working great and Pheebs has been going up and down them without any problems.  I'm still using a few weeny treats to encourage her but I'll start tapering them off soon.

I've been doing a lot of reading the past couple of days.  I finished Only When I Step On It which is about a fellow hiking the Appalachian Trail alone.  I liked this book so I left a 'first ever' review....."I thought this was a great book for many reasons. I appreciated this fellow's honesty and humor as well as his persistence, resilience, and dogged determination. His story held my interest from the first page to the last page as I hiked the trail with him. The book is a true inspiration for anyone regardless of what problems they are facing. Good stuff:))"  I followed this book with a short biography about 'Ernest Hemingway'.  What an adventuress skally-wag he was.  I have always been a fan of the 60's rock group, The Doors.  Their biggest hit 'Light My Fire' has and still is one of my all time favorite songs.  The band consisted of Jim Morrison-vocals, Robbie Krieger-guitar, Ray Manzerek-keyboards, and John Densmore-drummer.  When I saw Robbie Krieger had recently written his memoirs in a book called, Set The Night On Fire I wasn't long in downloading it to my Kindle reader.  I thought he did a great job in clearing up a lot of myths and exaggerations about the Doors.  If you are a Doors fan then this is the book to read.

 BAYFIELD
Holly Smokes one of my photos made it into Bayfield's very own newspaper named, The Bayfield Breeze .  Unbeknownst to me, Kelly had submitted it.  It's the one of a pair of Cardinals flaring their wings while landing on our bird feeder.  The photo can be seen at the very end of the Bayfield Breeze's page.

Just think, in only 12 short days we will be standing on March's doorstep.  From there it is only 21 days to the first day of Spring and 13 days until we turn our clocks ahead 1 hour.  Oh, and for you cold weather Santa Clause folks, it's 312 long days to Christmas.  Na-na-na-na na-nannaaa:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A journalist assigned to the Jerusalem bureau takes an apartment overlooking the Wailing Wall. Every day when she looks out, she sees an old Jewish man praying vigorously. So, the journalist goes down and introduces herself to the old man.  She asks, "You come every day to the wall. How long have you done that and what are you praying for?" The old man replies, "I have come here to pray every day for 25 years. In the morning I pray for world peace and then for the brotherhood of man. I go home have a cup of tea and I come back and pray for the eradication of illness and disease from the earth."  The journalist is amazed. "How does it make you feel to come here every day for 25 years and pray for these things?" she asks.  The old man looks at her sadly. "Like I'm talking to a wall."

My mother-in-law is coming...I had to clear out half my closet so she could have a place to hang upside down and sleep.

Census Taker: 'How many children do you have?'
Woman: 'Four.'
Census Taker: 'May I have their names, please?'
Woman: 'Eenie, Meenie, Minie and George.'
Census Taker: 'Okay, that's fine. But may I ask why you named your fourth child George?'
Woman: 'Because we didn't want any Moe.'
