OUR AFTERNOON RAIN TURNED TO SLEET

With the threat of showers at any minute, Pheebs and I headed into Bayfield instead of out to our walking spot.  With boats being lifted out of the water daily now in the harbor area it won't be long before the river barge with its front-end loader/digger tractor machine aboard will begin removing the boat slips and stacking them up on shore for the winter.

COLD DARK BROODING SKIES THIS MORNING
FEWER AND FEWER BOATS IN THE WATER EACH DAY

THIS COUPLE IS BACKING THEIR BOAT OUT INTO THH RIVER IN PREPARATION FOR TAKING IT A FEW HUNDRED YARDS TO THE LIFTING DEVICE WHICH WILL LIFT THEIR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER
BUNDLED UP AGAINST THE COLD THEY AT LEAST DO NOT HAVE FAR TO GO
TIDYING UP SOME LINES ON DECK
AND THERE THEY GO FOR THE LAST SHORT TRIP OF THE SEASON
Checking on Bayfield's Main Street construction I noticed they were pouring concrete sidewalks on the street's west side this morning.  Took a spin around Clan Gregor Square snapping a few more of Autumn's pretty colors.

AND OF COURSE I ASSUME THIS TO BE THE SIDEWALK SUPERINTENDENT HIMSELF

Wanting to at least get in some kind of a walk we headed for Bayfield's Cemetery where we were able to get in a few steps before it began drizzling again.  Not the nicest morning with the air feeling cold and damp.  In our traveling days, we would often be just days away from heading to the southwest for the winter.  It's best I don't think about those days anymore:((

PARKED FOR A WALK IN THE CEMETERY

Home again, I turned our sunroom's gas stove up to ward off the chills.  Edited the day's photos, cleaned some inside windows, blew all the leaves off the front porch with the blower, then came inside and plopped myself into my recliner with my Kindle reader.  The day's cold rain turned turned into an even colder sleet for awhile about 2:30 this afternoon.  Can snowy days be far behind!!  And there went another day in the life and times of us guys.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  Now that I'm older....here's what I've discovered...

1. I started out with nothing ... I still have most of it.
2. When did my wild oats turn to prunes and All-Bran?
3. I finally got my head together; now my body is falling apart.
4. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.
5. All reports are in. Life is now officially unfair.
6. If all is not lost, where is it?
7. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
8. The first rule of holes: If you are in one, stop digging.
9. I went to school to become a wit but only got halfway through.
10. Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant.
11. A day without sunshine is like a day in Seattle.
12. Kids in the back seat cause accidents; accidents in the back seat cause kids.
13. It's not the pace of life that concerns me; it's the sudden stop at the end.
14. It's hard to make a comeback, especially when you haven't been anywhere.
15. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my knees.
16. When you're finally holding all the cards, why does everyone else decide to play chess?

The police recently arrested a man selling "secret formula" tablets he claimed gave eternal youth.  When going through their files they noticed it was the fifth time he was caught committing this same criminal medical fraud.  He had earlier been arrested in 1794, 1856, 1928, and 1983!!

THIS YEAR'S FALL COLORS ARE JUST THE BEST

A much better weather day so Pheebs and I did make it out for our morning walk.  No rain, warmer temps, and no cold gusting winds.  All of tonight's photos were taken either on our morning drive through the woodsy area of our Bayfield Pines Park or an afternoon walk around the Park's pond.

WE ROLLED OUT OUR DRIVEWAY, AROUND THE CORNER, AND HEADED FOR THE SOUTH END OF OUR PARK FIRST THING THIS MORNING
It was nice enough today to clean a few sunroom windows and do some pine needle raking.  Even had myself a rootin tootin little backyard campfire going. Put a few more summer outside things away as well.  It won't be long before I will have to be shutting the outside water off until the days warm up again next Spring.

 MY SMOKY LITTLE AFTERNOON CAMPFIRE

With the weather forecast calling for four straight days of rain plus colder temperatures, I figured I had better stock up on a few photos for the coming days so Pheebs and I headed out for a walk around the Park's pond and beyond clicking a few pics along the way.  Always something to see and especially at this time of year with our Autumn colors peaking at the moment.  And both Kelly and I think this year's Fall colors are much more vibrant and colorful than last year.

Ellen works her way through a little something called Deya Deo.  Watch for the little 'heart' she makes at the end.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( An auditor is checking the books of an airline. He is puzzled by the excess use of fuel on a Melbourne to Canberra flight. He rings up the pilot and asks for an explanation.  "It was late at night," says the pilot, "Canberra was covered in fog and I lost my bearings."  "I'm sorry," says the auditor, "but you'll have to bear the cost yourself."  "The cost of what?" asks the pilot. "Of the bearings you lost."

It is a known fact that Winston Churchill had no time for women, particularly women in politics. Churchill was particularly adverse to one Nancy Ashton, a woman M.P. On one occasion he was particularly nasty to Nancy in the parliament when Nancy declared openly: "Sir if I were your wife, I would poison your drinks, mark my words.”  Having already tasted his little victory earlier, Churchill was generous: "And dear lady, if I were your husband, I would drink it.”

SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES HAS A TENDENCY TO MAKE ME GRUMPY

Despite this morning's blustery raw, wet, and cold winds all three of us piled into the Subaru and headed for Goderich.  Kelly had decided it was high time I traded in some of my old threadbare shirts and T-shirts for some newer slightly less used threadbare shirts and T-shirts.  Well, that was alright with me except for the fact I had to go along and try stuff on.  I don't know why it is I don't have any patience for that kind of stuff, but I don't.  It has a tendency to make me grumpy.  I suppose it's why I try to make my clothes last for as many decades as I can.  If Kelly had had her way I might have ended up with a whole carload of dusty slightly used threads today but my impatient grumpiness prevailed and I came home with just three shirts and three T-shirts.  I also came home with a nasty written notice from the Goodwill Store manager saying if I didn't come into the store with a big smile on my face and a big cheery Santa Clause-like attitude next time I would not be coming into that store at all.  Of course, that was quite alright with me:))  From there we went to another Thrift store whereupon I was able to escape out a back door before Kelly even knew I was gone.  I got out of that second-hand shopper's paradise with nothing but a smirk on my face.  Of course, the highlight of our morning was a stop at A&W for two double buddy burgers and two coffees to go.  And after that it was go we went all the way home through sprinkly raindrops and buffeting westerly wind gusts.  Awww, twas quite a morning it was.  And it was a good day for spinning a tall-tale shirt and T-shirt buying yarn too:))

GROANER'S CORNER:((  This duck walks into a convenience store and asks the clerk, "Do you have any grapes?"  The clerk says no, and the duck leaves. The next day, the duck returns and asks, "Do you have any grapes?" The clerk again says no, and the duck leaves.  The day after that, the duck walks in the store again and asks "Do you have any grapes?" The clerk screams at the duck, "You've come in here the past two days and asked if we had any grapes. I told you no every time that we don't have any grapes!  I swear if you come back in here again, and ask for grapes, I'll nail your webbed feet to the floor!!" The duck left, and returned the next day. This time he asked, "Do you have any nails?"  The clerk replied, "No," and the duck said, "Good! Got any grapes?"
