SERENADING TWILIGHT'S SLUMBER INTO NIGHT

A COLD GRAY MORNING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

A short car ride for Pheebs and I this morning as we slowly wandered around a few country concessions.  The grey day wasn't too inspiring so we were soon home again.  Feeling the need to change things up a bit for a change I headed off to Goderich this afternoon.  Thought I might pop into the Goodwill Store and look for a couple of warm shirts but by the time I got to Goderich I had lost all interest in a couple warm shirts.  Grabbed a coffee to go at McD's and headed down to the harbor.  Took one photo and thought about going to Zehrs Supermarket but by the time I got there I had lost interest in that too.  No problem, Walmart was right next door and I ended up lumbering around in there with a small shopping cart.  Only $742.81.  Okay, okay, so not that much but $55.37 did get me a couple chocolate bars and a fizzy pop.  Well, so it seemed anyway.  I don't eat chocolate bars or drink fizzy pops but I didn't want to leave the store empty-handed.  Maybe I'll leave the fizzy pop and bars on somebody's doorstep.  Home again and with a touch of snow along the way I decided with a slight headache I wasn't feeling the best.  I am seriously in need of some Spring Tonic.  Sunshine and warm air with flocks of early summer songbirds in the morning air along with a whole host of tiny Peeper Frogs serenading twilight's slumber into night.

A LOCAL COUPLE AND THEIR DOG OUT FOR A MORNING WALK
Al's Music Box:)) A Blossom Fell is a popular song written by Howard Barnes, Harold Cornelius, and Dominic John and published in 1954.  The best-known version was recorded by Nat King Cole. The recording was released by Capitol Records.  The B-side was "If I May." The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on April 27, 1955, and lasted 20 weeks on the chart, peaking at #2.  Nat King Cole recorded the song again for his album The Nat King Cole Story (1961).

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A wealthy man died and went to heaven. He was met at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter who led him down the streets of gold. They passed mansion after mansion until they came to the very end of the street. Saint Peter stopped the rich man in front of a little shack.“This belongs to you,” said Saint Peter.“Why do I get this ugly thing when there are so many mansions I could live in?” the man demanded.“We did the best we could with the money you sent us!” Saint Peter replied.

Two policemen call the station on their radio.  "Hello. ..... Is this the Sarge?"  "Yes?"
"We have a case here, Sarge. A woman has shot her husband dead for stepping on the floor she had mopped."  "Have you arrested the woman?"  "No sir. The floor is still wet."

One night, a lady stumbled into the police station with a black eye. She claimed she heard a noise in her backyard and went to investigate. The next thing she knew, she was hit in the eye and knocked out cold.  An officer was sent to her house to investigate, and he returned 1-1/2 hours later with a black eye.  "Did you get hit by the same person?" his captain asked.  "No," he replied. "I stepped on the same rake.

WALK SOFTLY MY FRIEND, CARRY A BIG STICK, AND TRUST NO ONE!!

Feeling better about things today and with the Sun occasionally popping through the clouds it has been a help.  Richard wasn't feeling quite up to a country road coffee tour this morning so he invited me over for a sit-down coffee.  And, he even had muffins too.  We caught ourselves up on most of the current happenings and saved a few things for later when we can get out for a coffee break cruise through the countryside.

HOW NICE TO SEE THIS SUN SPLASH ACROSS THE SUNROOM FLOOR THIS MORNING
 AND PHEEBS NOTICED IT TOO

I am quite proud of myself that it has now been 3 straight months that I have not watched any news channels of any kind.  Not even our local news channels.  And, to further that, I have watched very little television...period!!  A few old movies around Christmas time and that's about it.  I am so disappointed and disgusted with what I see in the downfall of so many of my fellow human beings that news is no longer an educational option for me.  I remember a time when newscasters once spoke the truth and facts mattered, but that has all gone down the drain these past years and I want no part of that lying sickness anymore.  Walk softly my friend, carry a big stick, and trust no one!!  And, until next time....enough is enough!!

A Blast From Our Past:)) It was February 5th of 2009 when Kelly and I, Max, Checkers, and Cora (the original Bayfield Bunch of which I am now the only surviving member) arrived at our ranch sitting job near McNeal, in southeastern Arizona.  Here is that day....... The Bayfield Bunch Arrives At The Arizona Ranch  Always remember that if you want to see what we did the day before just click on the word 'Older' at the bottom of the blog and 'Newer' if you want to see what we did after this day.  And, to make smaller photos bigger, just click on them.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Al's Music Box:)) Distant Drums is a song that provided US singer Jim Reeves with his only UK No. 1 hit – albeit posthumously in the United Kingdom in 1966, some two years after his death in a plane crash on 31 July 1964.   The single also topped the US country chart for four weeks, becoming his most successful posthumous single.  Although Roy Orbison had recorded the song in 1963, it is Reeves' version of "Distant Drums" which has endured over the years.  During its time at the top of the UK chart, the song beat off stiff competition from several major (and living) artists of the day. These included The Beatles - who had entered the UK chart around the same time with their double A-sided release "Eleanor Rigby"/"Yellow Submarine" - and the Small Faces, who had also charted in the UK with "All or Nothing".  It was an unexpected achievement for a song that Reeves had recorded for its composer, Cindy Walker, under the impression it was for her private use only and had earlier been dismissed by both the RCA record company and Chet Atkins (a noted guitarist and record producer who worked with Reeves) as unsuitable for wider public release  Following Reeves' death, the track was overdubbed with an orchestral backing and released to the public as the version that later climbed up the music charts in both the United States and the UK.  "Distant Drums" first entered the UK Singles Chart during the summer of 1966, before reaching the No. 1 position on 22 September, where it remained for five weeks.  It was named the UK's "song of the year" and Reeves became the first overseas performer to receive this special award.  "Distant Drums" remained at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for a total of five weeks.  Only Tom Jones with his recording of "Green, Green Grass of Home" had a longer tenure as the UK's top hit single record of 1966, with seven weeks at No. 1, although three of those weeks were in early 1967.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( In a certain suburban neighborhood, there were two brothers, 8 and 10 years old, who were exceedingly mischievous. Whatever went wrong in the neighborhood, it nearly always turned out they had had a hand in it. Their parents were at their wits' end trying to control them and after hearing about a priest nearby who worked with delinquent boys, the mother suggested to the father that they ask the priest to talk to them.  The mother went to the priest and made her request. He agreed, but said he wanted to see the younger boy first and alone. So the mother sent him to the priest.  The priest sat the boy down across from the huge, impressive desk he sat behind. For about five minutes they just sat and stared at each other. Finally, the priest pointed his forefinger at the boy and asked, "Where is God?"  The boy looked under the desk, in the corners of the room, all around, but said nothing.  Again, louder, the priest pointed at the boy and asked, "Where is God?"  Again the boy looked all around but said nothing. A third time, in a louder, firmer voice, the priest leaned far across the desk and put his forefinger almost to the boy's nose, and asked, "Where is God?"  The boy panicked and ran all the way home. Finding his older brother, he dragged him upstairs to their room and into the closet, where they usually plotted their mischief and quickly said, "We are in big trouble!"  The older boy asked, "What do you mean, big trouble?"  His brother replied, "God is missing and they think we did it!"

Three travelers, an American, a Russian, and an Egyptian, were circumnavigating the globe a la Jules Verne. The Russian man put his hand out and reached down into the clouds.  “Aaah!” he said. “We're right over my homeland.”  “How can you tell?” asked the American.  “I can feel the cold air.” he replied.  A few days later the African man put his hand through the clouds.  “Aah we're right over my homeland.” he said.  “How do you know that?” asked the Russian.  “I can feel the heat of the desert.”  Several more days later the American put his hand through the clouds.  “Aah, we're right over New York.” The Russian and the African were amazed.  “How do you know all of that?!” they exclaimed.  The American pulled his hand in and held it up for them to see. “My watch is missing.”

Three patients in a mental institution prepare for an examination given by the head psychiatrist. If the patients pass the exam, they will be free to leave the hospital. However, if they fail, the institution will detain them for five years.  The doctor takes the three patients to the top of a diving board looking over an empty swimming pool, and asks the first patient to jump.  The first patient jumps head-first into the pool and breaks both arms.  Then the second patient jumps and breaks both legs.  The third patient looks over the side and refuses to jump. "Congratulations! You're a free man. Just tell me why didn't you jump?" asked the doctor.  To which the third patient answered, "I can't swim!"
