I POINTED SUBIE'S NOSE NORTH AND OFF WE WENT

Kind of a slow morning.  A few hints of sun but not enough to turf me out the door into the icy cold air.  By noon, skies turned sunnier and I knew it was time to get out of the house for some fresh air and a change of scenery.  There always seems to be something to pick up in Goderich so I pointed Subie's nose north and off we went.  It was 18F feeling like 5F with the wind chill figured in.  Would you believe I went all the way to Goderich and back with a dead battery in my camera!!  I could count on half a hand the number of times I have done that over my photo years.  I have been in the habit of putting a newly recharged battery in my Sony RX 10 IV every day!!  But.....  The few Goderich stops today were Food Basics, McD's, the Goderich harbor, and Zehr's Supermarket.  In other words, another mighty exciting winter's day.  NOT!!

Al's Music Box:)) Rock With You is a song by American singer Michael Jackson, written by Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones. It was first offered to Karen Carpenter, while she was working on her first solo album, but she turned it down.  It was released in October 1979, by Epic Records as the second single from Jackson's fifth solo studio Album Off the Wall (1979). It was also the third number-one hit of the 1980s, a decade in which the pop singles chart would quickly be dominated by Jackson.  It reached number one on both the US pop (Jackson's third number-one on this chart) and R&B charts (Jackson's second number-one on that chart). It spent a total of four weeks at the top position on the former chart from January 19 to February 9, 1980, and five weeks (from January 5 to February 9, 1980) on the latter chart. According to Billboard, the song was the fourth biggest single of 1980.  It is also considered one of the last hits of the disco era.  It was re-released as a single on February 27, 2006, as part of the Visionary: The Video Singles box set. In 2021, Rolling Stone placed it at number 354 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.  The track received generally positive reviews from music critics. J. Edward Keyes of Rolling Stone said "What's remarkable about 'Rock with You' is how unobtrusive it is: a silky string section and barely-there twitch of guitar — Michael doesn't even hit the word 'Rock' all that hard — he just glides over it, preferring to charm with a wink and a smile rather than with aggression or ferocity."  Steven Hyden called it his "favorite song", and noted the line "Girrrrrrl, when you dance, there's a magic that must be love" as being "the most purely joyful moment [Hyden] has ever heard in a pop song".  All Music highlighted the song on the album itself.  Robert Christgau called it a smooth ballad.  Cash Box praised the production, calling the song a "soft, classy number" with "multi-tracked harmonies," "a modified dance beat," "shimmering flute tones and jazzy guitar work.  "A music video was released for the song, using the shorter single version. It features Michael in a sparkly sequined suit singing the song with a bright laser behind him. The video was directed by Bruce Gowers and filmed in 1979 at the 800 Stage in Los Angeles. California.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  This married couple was sitting in a fine restaurant when the wife looks over at a nearby table and sees a man in a drunken stupor.  The husband asks "I notice you've been watching that man for some time now. Do you know him?"  "Yes" she replies. "He's my ex-husband and has been drinking like that since I left him seven years ago."  "That's remarkable" the husband replies. "I wouldn't think anybody could celebrate that long."

- You have to stay in shape. My mother started walking five miles a day when she was 60.  She's 97 now and... we have no idea where she is.

- My mother said, "You won't amount to anything because you procrastinate." I said, "Just wait."

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Mike was beginning his pre-shot routine, visualizing his upcoming shot when a voice came over the clubhouse speaker--"Would the gentleman on the Lady's Tee please back up to the Men's Tee!"  Mike, still deep in his routine, seemed impervious to the interruption. Again the announcement---"Would the man on the Ladies Tee kindly back up to the Men's tee, PLEASE!"  Mike had had enough. He turned and shouted, "Would the announcer in the clubhouse kindly shut up and let me play my second shot!"

A completely inebriated man was stumbling down the street with one foot on the curb and one foot in the gutter.  A police officer pulled up and said, "I've got to take you in, pal. You're obviously drunk." Our wasted friend asked, "Officer, are ya absolutely sure I'm drunk?" "Yeah, buddy, I'm sure," said the copper. "Let's go." Breathing a sigh of relief, the wino said, "Thank goodness, I thought I was crippled."

IT MIGHT JUST BE IN MY FUTURE AGAIN AT SOME POINT

Last night's winter storm dumped over a foot of snow on us so needless to say, I was on the end of my snow shovel again this morning clearing paths.  A big 'thank you' to Frank for blowing out the driveway yet again as well.  With this morning's wind blowing the loose snowfall around it was advised that people stay off the roads so Subie stayed in the carport and we never went anywhere.  I sure feel sorry for the local wildlife in these conditions and next week the temperatures are predicted to drop even further down.  Checking the 14-day forecast there is still no silver lining at the end of this long dark winter's tunnel.  'Grim' is the only word to describe it.  Rumor has it that even Wiarton Willy, our local groundhog Prognosticator hastily got out of town this morning while the gettin' was good and boarded an Air Canada flight in Toronto and flew to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  I've been to Puerto Vallarta twice and it just might be in my future again at some point!!  Winters are for the birds...Penguins that is.  And polar bears too!!  Igloos, icebergs, and Eskimos if you will!!  By early afternoon the snowfall had quit and the rest of the day remained calm.  By late afternoon we were under partially sunny skies.........

Al's Music Box:)) Beyond The Sea is the English-language version of the French song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet, popularized by Bobby Darin 1959. While the French original was an ode to the sea, Jack Lawrence – who composed the English lyrics – turned it into a love song.   "Beyond the Sea" has been recorded by many artists, but Bobby Darins's version released in late 1959 is the best known, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 15 on the US R&B Chart, No. 7 in Canada (co-charted with "That's The Way Love Is"), and No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart[ in early 1960.  Before Bobby Darin's version, two instrumental recordings reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Benny Goodman's version charted in 1948, and was featured in the Cary Grant/Betsy Drake romantic comedy Every Girl Should Be Married. Roger Williams's recording reached No. 37 in 1955.  The first recording of "Beyond the Sea" was by Harry James and His Orchestra on December 22, 1947, and the first recording of "La Mer" was by French musician Roland Gerbeau in December 1945 (the song’s author, Charles Trenet, did not record it until the following year).

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother’s house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away.  “Johnny! Please wait until we say our prayer,” said his mother.  “I don’t need to,” the boy replied.  “Of course, you do,” his mother insisted. “We always say a prayer before eating at our house.”  “That’s at our house,” Johnny explained. “But this is Grandma’s house and she actually knows how to cook!”

- A slow thinking boy got a deck of playing cards as a gift but he couldn't find anyone to play solitaire with.

- My doctor has advised me to stop drinking.
It's going to be a massive change for me.
I've been with that doctor for 15 years.

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweatshirt.  Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, 'What setting do I use on the washing machine?'  'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?'
He yelled back, 'DALLAS COWBOYS'!
And they say blondes are dumb.

A tramp knocked on the door of the inn known as St. George and the Dragon. The landlady answered the door.  The tramp said, “Could you give a poor man something to eat?”  "No,” said the woman, slamming the door in his face.  He knocked again and said, “Could I have a few words with George?”
