MY CATCH-UP POST....DISAPPOINTED, I NEVER BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE!!

 THREE MOURNING DOVES ON THE BIRD STATION THIS AFTERNOON

Monday, February 16th::  Not a good day for Al.  Anyway, I did get out for a short drive down to the end of Bayfield River Road and back.  There was hoarfrost on the trees again, but without sunshine and blue skies, the hoarfrost didn't pack the same punch as a few days ago.

 THERE IS HOARFROST ON THOSE TREES, BUT WITHOUT SUNSHINE AND BLUE SKIES, THEY ARE NOT TOO SPECTACULAR

Tuesday:: A drive into Bayfield and back on a very foggy morning.  I slipped down to the beach to see the progress of the project going on down there, and finally saw that all those big boulders were not for a beach renovation at all.  They were, as previously theorized, for a breakwater wall in front of a few cottages.  The morning's fog later cleared, and we ended up under gloriously blue skies and 38F temperatures.  And that triggered me to get outside, haul out my tall ladder, and try to get some of the ice and snow build-up off the roof.  No easy task, I can assure you.

Late Tuesday morning, the heavy fog dissipated under sunny blue skies, and temperatures came up to 38F.  I soon had myself outside, atop my tall step ladder, to first restring a broken line holding a suet feeder.  From there, I got out a second ladder and climbed up to try to get a bit of snow off the sunroof.  Well, I might as well have tried to shovel snow off Mount Everest with a spoon, so I gave up on that pretty quick.  But all was not lost, and I went around to our rear deck with the tall step ladder, along with my wide snow shovel, and was able to get some heavy snow off the partial deck roof.

Wednesday:: Woke up to wind, rain, and freezing rain this morning.  Our big pine trees were whipping around like a bunch of spastic pre-cooked spaghetti noodles.  Needless to say, it turned out to be an inside day, and the Subaru stayed in the carport.  Just think, one short month from now, we will be bearing down on the first day of Spring, and in less than three weeks, we turn our clocks ahead.  Hold those thoughts close to you, but also understand that from now until about the second week of April, some of the worst winter storms and power outages can be fast upon us with their high winds, rain, freezing rain, and loads of cold and wet snow.....Wednesday actually ended with thunder, lightning, and freezing rain as an unexpected storm moved through our area around 8 p.m., leaving messy overnight conditions.  Due to those conditions, school buses, etc. were canceled for Thursday, and I imagine Emergency Rooms were busy with people coming in with broken bones from slipping and falling on all the slippery ice surfaces everywhere.

Thursday:: Another very welcome above-freezing day went a long way in melting more snow. The cold white stuff continues to slide off our roof in thunderous thumps.  Feeling the need to get out of the house and at least go somewhere, Woodsy and I hopped into the car and headed for Clinton, with a stop at Elliot's Liquidation Center.  Woodsy likes to browse for bargoons in there.  I always stay in the getaway car with the engine running.  Thunder and lightning, along with a short downpour of rain, passed through our area again shortly after supper.  It was during this time that we slipped into Bayfield for Woodsy to buy a couple of Lottery tickets at the convenience store.  I bought a lottery ticket once back in the 60's, but I didn't win anything.  Disappointed, I never bought another one!!
