AFTER 7 LONG MONTHS GODERICH'S ROTARY COVE OPENED TODAY....AND PHEEBS AND I WERE THERE

I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THIS LARGE MARBLE BOULDER BACK IN PLACE AT THE DOG WALKING AREA IN GODERICH'S ROTARY COVE
On Friday November 29th 2019 I wrote, 'Work begins December 1rst by the town of Goderich Ontario to restore and strengthen their damaged Lake Huron shoreline.  Cove Road and pedestrian access leading to Rotary Cove and the dog walking area will be closed at the water treatment plant until further notice.  I'm guessing this project could last a month or two depending on weather with it's Winter storms.  The next photos I take in that area may show a fully restored shoreline. ' 'Fast Forward':: It is now nearly seven months later and today they finally opened 'most' of the road to Rotary Cove and it's beach area.  It is a trial run however.  If people flood in and make a mess of things like they did at Sauble Beach last weekend, Rotary Cove will be closed again until further notice.  Not wanting to miss out on seeing how the shoreline restoration work has come along, and before a whole lot of people show up, Pheebs and I were there for a look-see by 9 a.m.

A LOT OF NICE CHANGES HERE
LOOKING SOUTH ALONG THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED LAKE HURON SHORELINE

LOOKING NORTH
DON'T NOW IF THEY WILL RE-CONSTRUCT THE ERODED SHORELINE FURTHER SOUTH ALONG THE DOG WALKING SECTION OR NOT
FROM WHAT I CAN FIGURE THE LARGE DECORATIVE MARBLEDED BOULDER IS BACK IN  THE SAME PLACE IT WAS BEFORE BEING WASHED INTO THE LAKE LATE LAST YEAR
THAT'S QUITE A BUILD-UP OF LARGE BOULDERS ALONG THE SHORELINE
I LIKE THE NEW PARKING ARRANGEMENT
SO VERY DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE
For some reason, I had it in my head the whole restoration project would be complete before they opened it to the public.  Not so, but that's Okay because I understand them wanting to get Cove Beach opened up for people.  Still a lot of shoreline work to be done but what they have done so far is impressive.  On the lakeside of the road to Rotary Cove work crews have extended the shoreline out into Lake Huron in a few spots and are still working on that.  Biggest and most noticeable improvement I saw was in the dog walking area and I am happy to say they have pulled the large marble boulder from the water's edge where it had tumbled and placed it back up on shore pretty close to its original spot.  The badly eroded shoreline in this area has now been completely rebuilt using tons of huge boulders.  The parking area has been completely re-done as well making for much better parking.  I would say the crews have done a great job and it looks like work is still ongoing.  Grass seed to plant, etc.  Two thumbs up to all those who have worked on this project and to the results they have achieved.

WHEN I CLAMBERED UP ONTO THE LARGE BREAKWATER BOULDERS PHEEBS CAME UP RIGHT BEHIND ME

HAVING PHEEBS UP ON THESE BOULDERS WITH ME REMINDED ME SO MUCH OF OUR MANY ROCK SCRAMBLES IN NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA, AND CALIFORNIA OVER THE YEARS
I'VE ALWAYS BELIEVED SHE'S GOT A LITTLE MOUNTAIN GOAT IN HER BECAUSE SHE IS A TRUE ROCK SCRAMBLER

YEP, TWO THUMBS UP FOR THE RESTORATION JOB IN THE DOGGY WALKING AREA AT ROTARY COVE:))
Part of the new boardwalk is complete in this area as well and it looks great.  It's wider than the original boardwalk and looks to be at ground level without drop-offs on either side.  Much safer for older folks I would think.  They probably have half to three-quarters of a mile to go before the boardwalk following the shoreline North reaches St. Christopher's beach at the other end.  The road in front of the Beach Street Station is still closed because of on-going work but the alternative (temporary) road to Rotary Cove runs through a large graveled area where the old train station once stood.  That old CPR train station was relocated a few years ago closer to the lake and is now The Beach Street Station restaurant.

HERE, THE SOUTHERN TIP OF THE NEW BOARDWALK MEETS SOME NEW CONCRETE
HEY STEW, THE NEW BOARDWALK IS WIDE ENOUGH AND SAFE ENOUGH FOR WHEELCHAIRS AND SCOOTERS TO PASS

FROM HERE THE BOARDWALK WILL CONTINUE FOR NEARLY A MILE ALONG THE SHORE TO ST. CHRISTOPHERS BEACH ACROSS THE HARBOR ENTRANCE FROM THE SALT MINE
IN THE FOREGROUND IS THE GRAVELY PATH THE NEW BOARDWALK WILL FOLLOW AND BEHIND THAT SHOWS HOW THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE SHORELINE OUT INTO THE LAKE ALONG THIS SECTION
ANOTHER SECTION WHERE THE SHORELINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED FURTHER OUT INTO THE LAKE
THE NEW BOARDWALK WILL ROLL RIGHT ON THROUGH HERE BETWEEN THE ROAD AND THE LAKE
Pheebs and I were back home shortly after ten a.m. and pretty much stayed inside for the rest of the day.  Our overcast and slightly foggy morning finally gave way to sunshine by early afternoon and that of course drove the humidity factor up especially after the overnight rain we had.  To keep myself from turning into a sticky ball of paste I had no choice but to stay inside where it was cool.  And that was about it for my day.......

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A man answers the phone and has the following conversation:"Yes, mother, I've had a hard day. Colleen has been very difficult - I know I ought to be more firm, but it is hard. Well, you know how she is. Yes, I know you warned me. I remember you told me that she was evil and would make my life miserable and you begged me not to marry her. I should have listened to you. You want to speak with her? All right."  He looks up from the phone and calls to his wife in the next room, "Colleen, your mother wants to talk to you!"

One day a college professor of Psychology was greeting his new college class. He stood up in front of the class and said, "Would everyone who thinks he or she is stupid please stand up?"After a minute or so of silence, a young man stood up.  "Well, good morning. So, you actually think you're a moron?" the professor asked. The kid replied, "No sir, I just didn't want to see you standing there all by yourself."

IF YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN:((

First stop on our morning Jeep ride was Huron Tirecraft in Clinton.  Had a slow leak in the Jeeps driver side rear tire.  They took me in right away and twenty minutes later Pheebs and I were on our way again.  Turns out it was a nail in the tire.  That's the third one so I must have driven over a nest of nails somewhere awhile back.
,
SPIRAEA PLANT
Headed over to the Bannockburn Conservation Area but with a car already in the parking lot we went on by.  A short distance away is Bairds Cemetery so we stopped there and had ourselves a walk around the perimeter.  I like looking at the creative artwork on many of the newer tombstones.
PURPLE VETCH IN A WHEAT FIELD
Home again before ten I enjoyably puttered around outside in our fast-growing green jungle trimming this, snipping that, and simply enjoying the soft chatter of summer birds on a beautiful sunny late June day.  Too hot and humid for an afternoon walk so we did an early evening walk instead.
Here we are approaching the end of June already.  A short four and a half weeks from now we'll be staring down the month of fast approaching August.  Are we in some kind of speed warp?  Is not time flying much faster than it once did?  Have Aliens cranked up the nano-seconds on our Earth clock?  Or is it just something simple like the older one gets the faster time flys?  Six short months from today Christmas 2020 will already be behind us and with a whole New Year just days away we will be head over heels into 2021.  How is all this possible in such a short period of time?  Fasten your seat belts and hang on to your coat tails folks because we are going to be in for quite a ride these next half dozen months or so.  If ya know what I mean.............:((
ONE OF OUR GROUND COVER FLOWERS BUT I DON'T KNOW IT'S NAME
GROANER'S CORNER:(( Everybody on earth dies and goes to heaven. God comes and says "I want the men to make two lines -- one line for the men that dominated their women on earth, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. Also, I want all the women to go with St Peter." The next time God looked, the women are gone, and there are two lines. The line for the men who were dominated by their women was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who dominated their women, there was only one man. God got mad and said "You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created you in my image and you were all whipped by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons who stood up and made me proud. Learn from him! Tell them, my son, how did you manage to be the only one in this line?" The man replied, "I don't know, my wife told me to stand here."

What did the bra say to the hat? "You go on ahead, while I give these two a lift."

MORE WORDLY PROBLEM SOLVING TODAY AND WHY DO SO MANY AMISH-MENNONITE FOLKS PAINT THEIR BARNS RED??

ALL PHOTOS IN THIS POST ARE FROM OUR WEDNESDAY MORNING DRIVE THROUGH AMISH-MENNONITE COUNTRY
My good buddy Richard and I spent another couple of quality hours in the fresh cool air of the countryside this morning once again trying to resolve the ever-growing unending problems of the world.  We are beginning to think and believe it is a hopeless situation we on Earth here live in.  However, we'll give it another go in a couple weeks or sooner if need be.
WHAT'S A DRIVE THROUGH AMISH-MENNONITE COUNTRY WITHOUT A STOP AT LAKE WAWANOSH
Purposely didn't take any photos today so I could catch-up my Wednesday photos.  Pheebs, my camera, and I will be out again Friday morning prowling the countryside for more pictures.  It's what I love to do these days so I had better keep on doing it if I know what's good for me:))
Thankfully, under sunny skies, our temperatures are remaining in the low 60's so it was another enjoyably comfortable weather day for me.  Bit of humidity on our afternoon walk but as long as Pheebs and I stayed in the forest's shadows we were fine.
DID YOU SEE THE PEOPLE IN THE GARDEN
At a pre-arranged time early this afternoon, my Nurse Practitioner called to check on how I was doing and I was able to tell her I was doing a lot better than a month ago when she last called.  A month ago I was still suffering from the lingering dregs of an inactive Winter so my well being was still very susceptible to mood swings and depression.  I was able to tell her I was feeling much better now that Spring and Summer weather was upon us and I've been able to get outside and be an active part of nature
again.  I am one of those people who needs to be actively doing something and going somewhere.  I am convinced my ancient ancestors must have been early explorers of some kind.  Anyway, I have more blood and urine tests coming up so I'll see where I land after all that and we'll go from there.  This aging business is quite a thing eh!!  Not what I wanted to imagine as a younger person but definitely like what every person older than me warned me about for years:((
CHILDREN AT PLAY AND NOTICE THE BARE FEET
Anytime I drive through Amish/Mennonite country I am always puzzled by something.  They dress in dark colors like black, dark purples. blues and greens.  Their houses are usually plain white with generally a dark green roof.  I know these folks do not like to attract attention to themselves and I assume their dark colors are somehow religiously connected.  I can understand that but.......would not the color red be symbolic with the Devil in their culture?? I  don't know, just curious......Okay, so after typing that last line about being curious it dawned on me, 'why not ask Google.  So that's what I did and here's the answer, Why Are Barns Painted Red??  And I wasn't even close with my Devil question.
AND YES, THIS RED WAS REALLY AS RED AS IT LOOKS
GROANER'S CORNER:(( According to the Knight Rider News Service, the inscription on the metal bands used by the US Department of the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed. The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey, abbreviated as "Wash. Biol. Surv."; until the agency received the following letter from an Arkansas camper: Dear Sirs: While camping last week I shot one of your birds. I think it was a crow. I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and want to tell you it tasted horrible. The bands are now marked "Fish & Wildlife Service."
