KELLY HEADS FOR CAMBRIDGE AND AL HEADS FOR THE TOASTER:))

AUTUMN’S FOREST FLOOR  (NIKON D90)
Kelly was on the road this morning around 10 but not without first giving me my detailed food instructions for the next few days.  Not really sure why our ladies feel compelled to give us fellers all the food info whenever they go away, but they do.  Guess they figure we will just sit down and starve to death.  My instructions were first, what and where the food is, second, how to fix it up and third, when to eat it.  I've got bread (toast:)), peanut butter, honey and cereal.  What else would I possible need for heaven’s sakes.  I did remember my set of instructions to eat the the spaghetti left overs for supper tonight so I was a good boy and did that.  Also remembered to take a Turkey pot pie out of the freezer today for Sunday so figure I'm doing pretty darn good so far, and it’s only the first day.  Now, what was the temperature she said to turn the oven on?  Hmmmmm, think it was 942 degrees.  Sometimes we fellers do try extra hard to listen up and do as we’re told you know.  Key word there of course being…….’sometimes’:))

Heard from another reader using Comcast saying they can't access our blog but also noticed a comment from another reader saying they have had no problem getting on to our site with Comcast.  Confusing!!

Ever had your rig all packed up and ready to roll on to your next destination only to have something....go wrong!! JIM AN SANDIE had the left front landing jack on their 5th wheel snap right off Friday morning!!  Although their day started out with a major repair problem they were thankfully helped out by the reputable APACHE JUNCTION RV SERVICE AND SUPPLY.  Always encouraging and reassuring to read about great repair facilities and how some of them will go that extra mile to help folks out:))

Kelly sent a quick note from Cambridge this afternoon saying she arrived OK.  Also said, "Kids are all good... cute.. had quite a time on the flight, (from Vancouver to Toronto Friday)  Rebecca & Sarah's seats were not together.... nobody would switch with them. Gabrielle was screaming & thrashing around...more later."  Kelly also sent a couple pictures.  I'm not good on names but I do know that is Kelly in the middle:))

SNOW SHOWERS, SOME HAIL AND A FINAL DEPARTURE DATE OF SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12TH

DSC_0018

Had ourselves a lite dusting of snow showers early this afternoon. Sky's later cleared with Pheebs and I hitting the forest trail for a leisurely afternoon photo walk.  Air was cold, but how nice to feel the warming rays of a late day sun.   Many trees still holding on to their colourful Autumn leaves made for a pleasant scenic walk along the forest trail.

DSC_0032I had really been hoping we would be out of here on Saturday November 5th but I was told today it will be November 12th now:((  I ask you, how many repeated departure delays can an overly impatient travel oriented fella take!!

Beginning to suspect the internet provider company COMCAST may be responsible for some folks not being able to access our Bayfield Bunch blog site.  Two of the folks we have heard from have Comcast and one of those people, Lakeport Al, said when he switched over to his Verizon card he was able to access our site with no problem.  Our neighbour Monica who traveled to Florida last week said she called Comcast and they told her it wasn't their problem.  So, I don't know:((  Does anyone have any ideas for these folks who can't access our site?

I like toast.  I think I could live on toast alone.  I had to basically stop buying bread many years ago because I would bring a loaf home, toast it all up and eat in a matter of days.  I probably have not personally bought a loaf of bread in maybe 10 years.  But, Kelly buys bread and I have been known to sneak a slice or ten and toast them up when she’s not looking.   That wonderful aroma of toasting bread always gives me away though despite putting the stove exhaust fan on and holding the toaster under it.  Kelly has been known to hide her bread.  When I stopped buying bread years ago I switched over to something called Tortilla flat bread.  Flat bread doesn’t toast well, in fact it doesn’t toast well at all.  Too floppy to stand up straight in the toaster.  For a week now I have been eating toast again.  Kelly brought home bread from the health food store which she assured me is made differently than the high preservative wheat based breads.   I took her word for that and nearly toasted myself to death in one short week.  Next week, I have to work on not eating toast again.  May even have to sign myself up for TA.  Been many years since I have been to a 12 step program but I understand ‘Toasters Anonymous’ has a high rate of success:))

Big week-end coming up for Kelly in Cambridge.  Not only does she have two daughters and a set of twins flying in from Vancouver but her Son and daughter-in-law are expecting their first baby on Halloween.  She will be staying with yet another daughter and son-in-law who themselves have two young boys aged around 4 and 5.  The Vancouver twins by the way are just turning 2.  The twins father will be flying in from Vancouver shortly as well.  Add to that mix yet another son and fiancĂ© babysitting a friend’s energetic dog for the week-end.  It’s been quite awhile since Kelly has been together with her whole family all at once so the agenda is going to be hectic especially with one daughter already having to fly right back to Vancouver on Monday.  Kelly certainly has her week-end excitement cut out for her.  She heads out Saturday morning.

Myself and the two furry kids will be holding the Fort here at home.  Doesn’t make a lot of sense adding another person plus two dogs into an already crowded situation in Cambridge.  With Pheebe’s boundless happy energy and love of people and kids it would just be chaos in the house to say the least.  And, all that commotion would really upset our quiet little Motormouse for sure.  The original plans called for Kelly’s daughter Sarah to bring the twins up to Bayfield for a couple days and stay at one of the Deer Park Lodge’s cozy cabins but all the cabins are booked right up.  Plus, Sarah has a lot of visiting to do with friends in the Cambridge area for the short two weeks she will be here.  Kelly figured it would just be much easier for her to slip over to Cambridge for a few days.  I agreed.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE COLD OUTSIDE…..IS THE WARM, INSIDE

DSC_0042
Had an extra bounce in my step this morning as I bopped around with re-newed interest organizing things for our lift off time.  How great it is to have our travel plans back into high gear again.  Made myself a detachable plywood base for our new tripod which may or may not work well in our travels.  If it doesn't...campfire wood!!  Cold and damp this morning at 35F but no rain.  Put some antifreeze in the rig's sink traps just in case and greased up the toad hitch.

Began checking weather reports for the 4 Corners area of Colorado but as suspected, the night time temperatures in the area are already well below freezing with numbers in the mid to low 20's on the Fahrenheit scale.  Yes, I know we are metric here in Canada but my old head still thinks in Fahrenheit, inches, feet and miles.  Although day time temps are still acceptable, those below freezing night time temps which I'm sure will continue to dip are worrisome for RV holding tanks and water lines.  Night time temps around Tuba City in Monument Valley are hovering around the freezing mark as are temps in Kayenta, Arizona.
I will continue to monitor these areas and will make a decision on that before or just after we leave.  I think it is just getting too late now to comfortably enjoy that whole region.   Plan B is to maybe do that area on our return trip in late March or early April.  Definitely want to see Monument Valley and the 4 Corners this trip because at this age and stage of life plus all the other shaky variables these days, one never knows if the opportunities for RV travel will be the same for us next year.  I consider ourselves very fortunate to have traveled these few short years, and seen as many things as we have.

Forgot to mention in Wednesdays post that we had slipped down to see my Uncle Harry in the morning and he seems to be doing better than ever despite some recent medical set backs.  For 95 years old he is holding his own:))

We took our neighbour Ingrid out for supper late this afternoon.  Probably won't see her again until Spring.  Ingrid and husband Gus lived behind us when we first moved here but their unit burned and Gus later died.  Ingrid moved to another unit in the Park and now lives alone with her little dog, Katie.

TOOK ME ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO DECIDE WHAT i WANTED FOR SUPPER BUT IT TOOK THESE TWO LADIES ALMOST A FULL 10 MINUTES OF ‘STUDYING' THE MENU’ BEFORE ARRIVING AT A DECISION ….JUST ANOTHER ONE OF LIFE’S LITTLE MYSTERIES FOR AL.
Our mid Autumn nights are cold and dark now when I walk into our warm and cozy little computer sun room each night around 7.  A cozy warmth fills the the pine walled room as soft ambient music weaves it's relaxing mellow tones in around and through my mind.  Probably one of my favourite times of day as I yet again start another post.  Well over 1,300 now and despite my self doubts many times I keep finding myself drawn back to the keyboard night after night.  I know I get down in the dumps about blogging at times but the bottom line still remains the same for me.  I love writing………… and always have:))

CAN YOU SEE A FIRE MONSTER IN THE STOVE………….
GROANER'S CORNER:((  A guy joins a monastery and takes a vow of silence: he’s allowed to say two words every seven years. After the first seven years, the elders bring him in and ask for his two words. "Cold floors," he says. They nod and send him away. Seven more years pass. They bring him back in and ask for his two words. He clears his throats and says, "Bad food." They nod and send him away. Seven more years pass. They bring him in for his two words. "I quit," he says. "That’s not surprising," the elders say. "You’ve done nothing but complain since you got here."
