FIRST WORK DAY IN ABOUT 6 WEEKS

DSC_0035

SUMACS, FERNS, MAPLES & SO MUCH MORE ALONG THE TRAIL

It has been about 6 weeks or so since the Virus bug knocked me out of action & today was the first day back driving for Town & Country again.  Eased into things this morning by taking the company's mini-van to a facility nearby that undercoats vehicles with a rust inhibitive solution.  It's a good idea to have that done because it protects against our salty winter roads here.  I will actually be getting the Jeep done as well in the coming weeks but that will be done here in Bayfield.
DSC_3799

Superb weather day again & as usual it was bonus time for me rolling through our beautiful Autumn countryside.  And, it's always an added bonus when someone else is paying for the gas & I am actually getting paid for the driving:))  I never tire of being surrounded by Mother Nature's wonders.  My afternoon drive took me to a small town by the name of Fordwich where I picked up a fellow & headed to a nearby town for groceries.  Nice easy afternoon & always nice to be of help to disabled folks.

DSC_3797
It's looking like our departure date for the southwest has been pushed back from October 23rd to November 6th now.  Kelly wants to stay & work an extra couple weeks & that's the way it is.................

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A city boy, Kenny, moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100.  The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died."

Kenny replied, "Well then, just give me my money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that.  I went and spent it already."

Kenny said, "OK then, at least give me the donkey."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

Kenny, "I'm going to raffle him off."

Farmer, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"

Kenny, "Sure I can.  Watch me.  I just won't tell anybody he is dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Kenny and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?"

Kenny, "I raffled him off.  I sold 500 tickets at 2 dollars a piece and made a profit of $898."

Farmer, "Didn't anyone complain?"

Kenny, "Just the guy who won.  So I gave him his 2 dollars back."

Kenny grew up and eventually became the chairman of Enron.

HITCH SWITCH DAY....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

DSC_3626

I TOOK THIS HARVEST MOON PIC LAST SEPTEMBER FROM OUR FRONT YARD

Tuesdays low 80F humidity laced one day heat wave did a mighty fine job in re-activating our backyard Cricket Orchestra this morning.  I opened our patio door about 6 a.m. to a host of squeaking sounds.  Dozens of little cricket legs sawing out their summer like tunes.  What a nice way to start the day.

DSC_0012-4

Heavy thunderstorms in the night made for a rough night at the Bayfield Bunch household but we were up & at em anyway before 5 a.m.  At 6:28 our little 2 car convoy rolled out of the driveway into the rain slicked darkness heading for London Ontario & our destiny with the, TRAILER HITCH CENTER.  ETA 8 a.m.  I led the way with the Jeep & Kelly followed in the Santa Fe.  We had our walkie-talkies along in case we got separated. (cell phones too)  I knew where the trailer hitch place was but Kelly didn't.  It was an uneventful drive & we even punched our way right through London's morning rush hour to reach our 8 o'clock destination right on the nose.

DSC_3723

They took the Santa Fe into the shop first & removed the tow bar assembly that could later be used with the Jeep.  We decided to leave the tow plate on the Santa Fe just in case something happened to the Jeep at some point & we had to revert back to the Santa Fe for a tow vehicle.  As soon as we had the Santa Fe back we headed out for breakfast.  Kelly dropped me off back at the trailer place & she headed back to Bayfield via Winners, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, & probably a few dozen other little shopping stops on her way out of the big city.

IMG_2532

WE HAVE HAD A 'ROADMASTER' HITCH ASSEMBLY FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS & IT HAS PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY

I dozed out in the waiting room until the Jeep was finished at 10:45.  Snapped a quick pic of the new installation & there was no stopping for shopping for this guy as I high tailed it out of town just as fast as my little Jeepster could take me.  At the stroke of noon I was back home & stretched out in my recliner.  Mission accomplished.

The solenoid switch that arrived for our Motor Home at Ron's FOUR SEASON PERFORMANCE place today was the wrong one & Ron had to hastily order another switch & this time right from the solenoid switch manufacturer in Iowa.  He's hoping to have the rig done by the end of the week.  I still had Ron's truck at home so took it back to him in Grand Bend where Kelly picked me up about 20 minutes later.   Then, it was back to Bayfield for the two of us.

DSC_0012-6

PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE RIG TO RETURN HOME & FILL THIS VOID

So, there you have it.  A blow by blow description of my day.  Now don't you wished you had moved on to something more exciting in someone else's blog...... Yep, I thought so:))

GROANER'S CORNER:((

A cabbie picks up a Nun.  She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome  cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring.
He replies:  "I have a question to ask you but I don't want to offend you."
She answers ,  "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive."
"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me."  She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that: #1, you have to be single and #2, you must be Catholic."
The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I'm single and Catholic!"  "OK"  the nun says. "Pull into the next alley."
The nun fulfills his fantasy, with a kiss that would make a hooker blush.  But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.  "My dear child," says the nun, "why are you crying?"  "Forgive me but I've sinned.  I lied and I must confess,   I'm married and I'm Jewish."
The nun says, "That's OK.  My name is Kevin and I'm going to a Halloween party."

TOOK THE MOTOR HOME TO GRAND BEND & LATER JEEPED OURSELVES TO MITCHELL

DSC_0027-2

STORM TOSSED WATERS LASH BAYFIELD'S BEACH

Bit of an earlier start to the morning & I really had my fingers crossed it wasn’t going to rain.  Had to have the Motor Home in Grand Bend & after I just spent time cleaning it I didn’t want to have to take it out on wet dirty roads.  The weather held together as Kelly & I pulled into Ron’s FOUR SEASONS PERFORMANCE driveway shortly after 9.  Ron was his usual friendly energizer bunny self & you wouldn’t have known he had just flown to Florida & back yesterday arriving home late last night.  Flew into the Tampa airport, rented a car & went to have a look at a potential Motor Home purchase.  Didn’t like what he saw so it was back to the Airport & back home again.  All in a day's work for Ron. DSC_8370

RON KRAUTER.....FOUR SEASONS PERFORMANCE

Our hydraulic levelers on the coach haven’t worked for over a year now & it took Ron all of about 2 minutes to figure out the problem.  Solenoid switch!!  Apparently it’s a common thing & especially if the levelers are not used a lot.  He explained to me what happens inside the switch so in the future I will have to remember to frequently give those levelers an up & down run.  Also decided to have him service our Onan generator as well with an oil change & filter plus a main kitchen electrical receptacle was on the fritz.  Of course Kelly & I in our absentmindedness never thought to bring a second vehicle with us & Ron was going to need the coach for the day.  Rather than have Kelly & I sit around in his driveway all day playing lawn darts & mooching food he gave us his big red shiny truck to head on back to Bayfield.  Mighty nice of him but considering the lawn dart alternative, he knew what he had to do!!

RON'S BIG SHINY RED TRUCK  DSC_8371

Soon as we got home I fired up the Jeep & we headed off to Mitchell to visit my Uncle Harry.  Mitchell is about a half hour drive east of us.  Harry’s doing good & we took him outside for a spin in his new wheel chair.  It was a warm Autumn day with a lively breeze & I could tell he was so happy to be outside & feel the sun on his face & the wind blowing through his hair.  Well, not too much hair but what little there was blew about in the breeze.

 IMG_2525 IMG_2526 IMG_2527

We were home by 2 & Kelly was back on the job over at Deerpark.  Hauled the garden hose out & watered the flowers & shrubs I had moved yesterday.  As soon as we get the rig back home I hope we get a good soaking rain.  Our Park’s water here is so chlorinated I almost hate to water anything because I don’t figure it’s doing the plants much good anyways.  Luckily we have a big rain barrel so I scoop water from that for transplanting.

GRAND BEND'S BEACH

Someone sent in a website addy this morning for those sun screen visors we have in our Motor Home but do you think I can find those folks name now!!  I did save the addy which is QUICK SHADES

DSC_8368       DSC_8367

YOU CAN EASILY SEE THE HUGE ADVANTAGE OF THESE SCREENS

The 5 Season's Park where we live near Bayfield is like no other.  Basically we live in a Pine Forest with lots of room between neighbors.  Almost like mini forests between lots.  This area was originally planted a long time ago with row upon row of pine trees.  Property ownerships changed & eventually a Park community was established here.  Those long ago planted trees are now at their maturity & many of them have to come down simply for property & safety sake.   We may return in the Spring to a slightly different looking Park.

DSC_0040-2

WE HAVE MANY PINE TREES ON OUR STREET (so far)

Late note.......Solenoid switch won't be in for the Motor Home until Wednesday but all other work on the coach is done.  Kelly & I will leave here at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning for London Ontario with both the Santa Fe & Jeep to do the hitch switch.  Could be a long day & maybe I better take my hammer in case they need my expert help.............:))

GOT THE OLD SHOVEL IN THE GROUND TODAY:))

DSC_3715

ALONG THE MORNING TRAIL

Another energy driven productive day. It is so unbelievable to me how the elimination of a simple cup of coffee each night after supper has made such a difference in my life. A few weeks ago when my Nurse Practitioner suggested no coffee after 12 noon as a solution to my poor sleeping habits I just figured, 'ya right!!' But, I was willing to try anything rather than go the sleeping pill route so I did what I was told for a change. I hadn't had a good night's sleep for many years let alone a whole week but since giving up the later day coffee I have been sleeping like Rip Van Winkle every night. Direct results of this are increased energy levels & today was another good example of that. Never had to take a recliner break all day. Nice:))

DSC_8356

FOUND THIS LITTLE CATERPILLAR FELLOW IN A CEDAR SHRUB I MOVED TODAY

Some of our flower beds have become overgrown the last few years & I just didn't have the energy or the interest to maintain them anymore but today it was just like old times as I got my good old shovel in the ground again & busied myself transplanting flowers & shrubs . Landscape gardening was a favorite hobby of mine for years & today it felt nice to have those good old creative thought patterns flowing again.

OVERGROWN FLOWERBED-WORK HAS BEGUN-ALMOST FINISHED

I've heard of goal tenders, ship tenders & business tenders but until this morning I had never heard of battery tenders. Slip on over to RETIRED ROD'S blog & he'll not only tell you about battery tenders but show you a picture of one as well.

KAREN & AL  wondered what company we purchased our sun screens from that I had pictures of in last night's blog. We bought those visors in Quartzsite a couple of years ago from a vendor outside the big tent on opening day. Can't remember the name of the company but we just gave them the make & model of our rig & their computer told them which visors fit our Motor Home & that was that. Pulled them from stock & away we went. And yes, they are put up with 4 suction cups on each visor. At the same time we also purchased the full windshield screens that we use while parked. Same see through material as the visors & they are suction cupped on as well. We can see out OK but it's hard for anyone to see in.  If anyone knows the name of that company let me know & I'll put the addy in the blog.

WALK OVER HERE, WALK OVER THERE, TWIST & BEND:))

DSC_0032

AUTUMN HAS TOUCHED A FEW TREES

It’s a quiet & cool Sunday morning as I sit here in my recliner beside an opened patio door.  The hush of Autumn is upon the land now & the air outside is still.  Gone are the squeaky cricket sounds, peeping frogs & twittering birds in the pine trees heralding the dawn of a new day.  The Canada Geese aren’t practicing their southern flight patterns yet but soon the air will be filled with honking trial runs as they lift off local ponds & circle overhead through the crisp Autumn air before landing again.  And then one morning they will lift off the still pond waters & make a honking great wide turn to the south & they will be gone.  It is the way of the Canada Geese.

DSC_3756 DSC_3751       DSC_3752

As the weeks & days begin to count down to our departure date in just under 5 weeks I am definitely getting myself into the Snow Bird groove.  We generally don’t tell the furry guys about our plans ahead of time & save that for the morning we actually leave.  But, in that final week & few days before leaving I’m sure the little Monkeys know something is up as we hustle about loading things into the rig.  And then one morning comes along that is different than the rest for the gang.  Mom & Dad are up earlier than usual & instead of heading out on our morning walk we all pile into the big white house on wheels & away we go off on another 5 month adventure.  Max assumes his position on the fold down bed in the living room, Checkers sacks out on the floor between & behind the passenger & driver’s seats while the little Motormouse is soon curled up & off to dreamland in Kelly’s lap.  The looooooong wait is over & the long journey ahead has just begun for the Bayfield Bunch:))  Finally!!

DSC_0005

But, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here so it’s back to the business of the day.  A quick blog check this morning tells me JB & BRENDA are also planning on a late October departure if the cold Alberta weather doesn’t drive them south sooner.  RETIRED ROD over there in Kansas is winterizing his Motor Home & hoping for a December take-off.  JUDY & EMMA are packing their bags for a cross country trip from Princeton Oregon to near Houston Texas & GYPSY is still deciding on her upcoming winter plans. BRUCE & MARGIE have already made the trip from Tumwater, Washington to San Luis Obispo, which is about 10 miles north of Pismo Beach in California.  RICK & PAULETTE out there on Canada’s Vancouver Island are patiently counting down the days to a late December departure for California.  Yep, some of the RV Snow Birds are beginning to stir & flex their wings a bit alright.

PASSENGER SIDE READY TO GO UP

Happy to say I am finally making some progress with Win7 as I’m gradually familiarizing myself with things.  I had been avoiding Live Writer’s new updated version on our newer laptop but yesterday I decided I had better ‘make nice’ with it before we get on the road next month.  I’m still not impressed with the new format but surprisingly enough things are beginning to fall into place as I finally began to make some sense of where they had moved everything.  Kind of like going into a familiar grocery store only to find out they did a renovation overnight & moved everything.  Same products on the shelves but it just takes time to find everything again & become familiar with the new layout.  That is until the store decides on changing everything again!!

DSC_0002

KAREN commented on one of my RV roof photos a couple days ago & suggested a good waterproof roof product for sealing along the cap ends called ETERNABOND.  Just wondered if anyone else out there has used this.  A bit pricey but if it's as good as it says it is for stopping leaks then it might be a handy product for RV'ers to have on board.  And RICK had a post last Tuesday about a new feature in Picasa 3.8 called Picnik.  This will take photo buffs like myself a little further into the mysterious & magical world of photo editing.  I had a look at it, found it a bit confusing of course but then again I find a plate of spaghetti confusing these days so that's nothing new for me.   I went ahead & ordered the Premium version just like Rick did so now that I have a few dollars invested (less than $25) I'm sure I will overcome my confusion right quick!!

DSC_8344

STARTED GATHERING UP SUMMER'S LAWN ORNAMENTS TODAY

The majority of my day was spent cleaning the Motor Home.  All exterior windows washed plus the bottom half of the rig all way round.  Didn't see dirt guys on the top half so I left it alone.  What a great feeling it is to be getting some physical exercise again.  My tired legs today again tell me they are getting stronger.  Up & down the ladder, walk over here, walk over there, twist & bend.  Got to get those legs in shape if I'm going to run up & down them there Chiricahua Mountains in southeast Arizona in a couple months...............:))DSC_8347

SEPTEMBER BIKE RIDE

First, let me say that it was my fault the CTR+ enlarging feature on my Win 7 didn't appear to work early Friday morning.  It was 6 a.m. & in the dim light I was missing the CTR button. & probably pressing the one next to it.  I'm adjusting to our new Toshiba laptop & although the keys are basically in the same place as other keyboards I was confused with the layout I guess, plus I was in a huff over that Win 7 magnifier annoyance.  Thanks for people's Win 7 comments saying their CTR+ worked fine or I might not have gone back for a second look-see.

DSC_8338

BESIDES OUR 2 LOUNGERS WE DO CARRY A COUPLE EXTRA CHAIRS JUST IN CASE WE HAVE................'VISITORS'

I am one of those people who do not voluntarily go back & read any of my previous posts.  I have done that in the past & it serves no purpose but to leave me with beet red skin over some of the posts I have embarrassed myself with.  My head begins to sway back & forth as the words, "why did I write that" echo through my brain chambers.  Yes, I know there are bloggers out there who will not be able to identify with this of course because in their minds they are convinced they always write 'perfectly positive posts.'  All nicey nicey stuff & I'm sure they are the type of people who see themselves as of course.....making no mistakes.  Well, you will not find any of those people on my blog list!!  And, if you are one of those people & you are on my blog list, just let me know I will be more than happy to take you off:))

DSC_8340

WORKING AT CLEANING OFF SOME BLACK STREAKS

Now, having said all that about my, "why did I write that," I will admit I do regret my wording & phraseology at times, but generally I am usually pretty darn close with my opinions despite my clumsy way of getting them across.  I may not say it as well as others but the gist of what I am trying to say is there.

DSC_8341

But, sometimes I just have to go back into my post's & change things I am not comfortable with.   Maybe a few words here or a whole paragraph there.  I've never scrapped a whole blog yet.  A simple example of going back to change things is a post I did a couple weeks ago about boondocking in the Ajo Highlands of Arizona.  Under one of our solitary boondocking pics I kind of made fun of RV Parks & all their social perks.  That caption was in direct response to a comment on my blog by a good blogging buddy of mine.  We sometimes take good natured shots at each other in regards to the RV Park lifestyle vs the Boon Docking lifestyle.  He had sent a little well intentioned zinger my way in the form of a comment so I sent one back in the form of a caption.  Well, my caption under the photo bothered me so much I finally had to go back & change it.  Not that I said anything wrong but sometimes the line between good natured humor & sarcastic humor gets a little blurred.  I prefer to stick with the good natured stuff so on occasion I have had to back up, rethink & redo things.  My feathers get a little ruffled sometimes too ya know:))

DSC_8337

GUESS WHERE I FOUND YESTERDAY'S MISPLACED BUCKET OF SOAPY WATER TODAY

What the heck is everybody yabbling about anyway!!  JERRY left a comment on yesterday's blog about people texting on their cell phones.  Coincidentally this morning I sat in a Wal-Mart McDonalds (egg McMuffin & small coffee) & watched as 3 separate people in the counter line up had their cell phones in hand furiously texting, schmexting or ka-blexting their brains out.  First fella was a middle aged Wal-Mart employee manager looking guy.  Took the young girl three "Excuse me's" to get his attention to order while he held up everyone behind him.  Second person was a young Mother & small child.  The child could have wondered off to Africa's deepest darkest Swahili Land & the totally tunnel visioned text head Mother would never even have known the kid was gone.  The third Yabbler must have had two broken thumbs because he was yapping away into the cell phone about last night's booze party & I don't think he was talking to the local Sherriff either!!  Made me want to go over to the Toy department & get myself one of those loud Oooga Oooga horns & just come up behind these people & give em a big blast....Aaa-Oooooooga!!!!

DSC_8339

CAN'T FORGET TO LOAD UP MY CUSTOM MADE DUCT TAPE ENABLED FLAG POLE

I'm always looking for a good excuse to take the Jeep out for a spin & if I can't find a good excuse I take it out for a spin anyway.  I was into the town of Goderich Friday to pick up some things but of course forgot some stuff which in turn gave me another excuse to go back to town today.  Not too smart on my part but then again driving a tiny little bumpity vehicle that's awkward to get in & out of,(definitely not for ladies with tight skirts) has limited interior space & less than steller gas mileage due in part to it's un-aerodynamical shape isn't too smart either.  But, sometimes ya just got to up & throw your smarts right out the door.  I often get tired of trying to put a logical sticker on everything I do & say.  Sometimes I gots to go do something that is just totally illogical......& fun to boot:))  And you know what.....that just seems to make a whole lot more darn sense to me these days now that I am about to enter the latter half of my aging 60's thing.

<<< I THINK THIS OLD SALT'S HAT IS IN NEED OF REPAIR

GROANER'S CORNER  Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.  Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital.  One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end.
He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.
Edna promptly jumped in to save him.  She swam to the bottom
and pulled him out.  When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.
When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good
news and bad news.  The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love.  I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness.
'The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his
bathrobe belt right after you saved him.  I am so sorry, but he's dead.'
Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself. I put him there to dry....  How soon can I go home?'

WASHING THE MOTOR HOME ROOF

DSC_8330

OUR DIGS AS SEEN FROM ATOP THE MOTOR HOME...big roof at right is our 2 vehicle carport.

It was one of those perfect September weather days with sunny sky’s & temps in the low 60’s.  Just the kind of day that energizes us older fellas, so with energy levels peaking I was able to get the rigs roof scrubbed today.  I had gone up on the roof to WD40 the working parts of the rig’s Winegard TV antennae when I noticed how dirty the roof had become over the summer.

DISCOVERED A PRETTY DIRTY ROOF ONCE I GOT UP HERE

Our Motor Home sits in the shade of tall pine trees & a green/black mold had set in.  It took me a couple hours of scrubbing & hosing down the roof & then hosing down the whole Motor Home.  I even had enough energy left over to get a little waxing done on the rig’s front end too.  These sure are different days from just a short month ago when I was fighting a daily battle against a miserable virus bug.

HERE YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLEAN & DIRTY

AND DON'T FORGET TO CLEAN UNDER THE SOLAR PANELS!!

After reading Jedsmom's comment in our Shout Box this morning I realized just how far behind the times I have slipped.  I thought that cell phone thing in classrooms was a new problem here in Ontario but if you read Jedsmom’s comment you will see it seems to be common place in schools now.  Even 5th graders are packing cell phones into school rooms.  Well, there is a lot more I could say about all this but what’s the point.  I might just as well join the masses & go bury my head in the sand & give my head a break.  Nothing I can do about the decline & decay of our society anyway........it’s already to late!!

VIEWS OF OUR PLACE FROM ATOP THE MOTOR HOME

Someone asked if the picture of me sitting on the ground working on some outside speakers a few days ago was taken by Kelly.  No, I usually take those pics myself using the camera’s self timer.  Most of my photos do not have people in them & since I don’t care to have a lot of people hanging around in my world I sometimes use myself to give photos perspective.

I’m trying very hard to get along with Windows 7 but we sure are having our differences.  Got myself into a real schmozzle with that magnifier thingy this morning.  I much prefer the simplicity of XP’s CTR+ for enlarging things but hey, I'm the kid who failed grade one so what do I know!!

SHARING:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A college class was told they had to write a short story in as few words as possible.  The instructions were:  The short story had to contain the following 3 things.  Religion, Sexuality & Mystery.  Only one short story received an A+ in the entire class.  It read........"Good God, I'm pregnant; I wonder who did it."
