NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL MY MOST PRODUCTIVE SATURDAY

DSC_0026

Aside from some soreness at the incision site most of the day, all feels well. Our weather has heated up again & we are back into heavier humid air. Some folks may like this stuff but I am not one of them. And, with no A/C in the Jeep it's just too hot for Pheebs & I to do any Jeeping. Needless to say, me & the furry little Peachy Princess stayed inside & pretty darn close to our cool house air.  Kelly worked today.  Summer Saturdays are always her busiest times over at DEER PARK LODGE.

DSC_4158

I figure we are at the half way point now for our summer months at home. 'Hoping' to have the big wheels pointed for the southwest in 3 months from about right now.
IMG_0531-1

Despite Kelly's best efforts & spending a fair bit of time on the problem, we have all but given up on getting our Sitemeter counter working properly again. Maybe a problem with our service provider, Sitemeter itself, or maybe our account has been hacked.   It had worked perfectly fine since 2007. We have had no response from Sitemeter & it seems everyone else's Sitemeter program is working fine.  {Update} Just before publishing this tonight I noticed the counter has started working again….but I’m not confident now it will stay working.  Maybe I should just dispense with the whole counter thing & be done with it.

For me, a good night's sleep has been an elusive thing for many years. Had talked this over with my Nurse Practitioner a couple summer's ago & she suggested a few things like changing my coffee habit etc because I did not want to go the sleeping pill route. Did all she recommended but a decent night's sleep was still not forthcoming. Out of sheer desperation about 6 weeks ago I finally agreed to try a mild sleeping pill at night & for the first time in recent memory I have actually been able to get a good 4 or 5 hours back to back sleep. As long as I remember to take the sleeping pill that is. Last night I forgot, so today was a snoozy exercise in keeping myself semi-upright & conscious.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Two 'good old boys' were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one man digging a hole, the other filling it in again.
An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, 'I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?'
The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, 'Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the guy who plants the trees called in sick.'

MY DOCTOR WAS A BIT MUDDLED THIS MORNING

DSC_0002
FARMERS HAVE BEEN PUTTING IN LONG HOURS GETTING THEIR CROPS HARVESTED THIS WEEK
Always nice if one can enjoy some early morning scenery if one is on the way to a Hospital. Checked into the Emergency department early & luckily they took me right in. Not even 5 minutes in the outer waiting room. Another 10 minutes in an examination room with a nurse preparing the Doctor's tools of the trade & it was time to get the show on the road. Shirt off & climb up onto the bed, sunny side up.  The Doctor comes into the room, has me point out the spot to be removed, positions the overhead light closer & begins arranging some towels around the surgical area. Having been through this once before I knew it would be the needle injecting the freezing that would be the yukky part. The Doctor affirms that & proceeds to inject about a half dozen short burning stings. I look at the clock on the wall overhead & it is 9:26 a.m.
DSC_0004-002
Now it's the slice & dice part as the attending Nurse suggests to the surgeon Doctor which way to place the cut. That was a bit disconcerting listening to that little conversation. Before everything was over I was definitely convinced the Nurse in the room was doing all she could to help this aging Doctor. The surgical removal of the small growth only took maybe 3 or 4 minutes but the stitching up of the incision is where the length of time & confusion became very apparent. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for this Doctor because it was obvious he was having difficulty & seemed a bit muddled about the tool he was using.  The Nurse was very patient with him, verbally helping him along, reminding him of this & explaining that. I felt fortunate she was there in the room.
IMG_0001
I ENTER……..’THE ROOM’
IMG_0003 IMG_0004
MEDICAL TOOLS ARE LAID OUT AS A WALL CLOCK TICKS DOWN THE TIME
While the Doctor stitched me up he said he would see me in one month at the Clinic. Wasn't until after that I thought to myself, why do I have to go to a Clinic? Anyway, he finally finished with the stitching & left the room without any further words. Nurse came in & cleaned the blood off me & the bed & that was it. She booked an appointment for next Friday to have a Nurse take the stitches out & a secondary appointment for the Clinic. I guess the clinic is where I will find out if the lesion removed today is going to be good news or bad news. By the way, I see Dr. Bukala this coming Tuesday to discuss the results of the Kidney Stone procedure last month. Kelly will be going along to make sure I get things straight.  Not unusual for me to get a little muddled myself at times……………
IMG_0005
IT’S ALL OVER, THE DEED IS DONE…..NOW LET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!
Felt a little wonky & weak kneed when I walked out of the hospital so thought I'd slip downtown Goderich & treat myself to a bacon & egg breakfast for a change. Last time I had bacon & eggs was probably last winter sometime at a Cracker Barrel in the States while traveling. Let's just say, it is not likely I will ever return to that particular Goderich restaurant again. I wished Canadians could build a great bacon & egg breakfast like the Americans do!!
---
Filled the Jeep with gas & headed off into the countryside. I had been hoping for big blue skies with fluffy white cotton ball clouds, but no such luck. The heavy humidity in the air gave the sky a steely light gray look. It was not a great day for photography. However, I had a destination in mind. Kelly had spotted another rural house & property for sale so figured I would country road myself up that way & have a look. It was located on the Belfast road southwest of Wingham Ontario.  As I approached from the west I could see right away the house & property were not suitable. Drove by slow, turned around, drove by again & then put the hammer down & headed for home. No A/C in the Jeep so I didn't dilly dally around because I knew how comfortable it would be when I got back to our central air conditioning:))
DSC_0001
Felt kinda goopy for the rest of the afternoon & spent my time mostly reclinerized & staying cool.  I am surprised tonight there has been no pain all day from this morning’s procedure.  Thought for sure I would have been in for some ‘ouchies’ when the freezing came out.  Just goes to show ya…………..what the heck do I know about anything eh:))
---
AWWWWWW NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just noticed my Sitemeter counter is broke again.  Sometime after midnight Thursday the counter stopped recording hits on our site again.  Of course we have dashed off a few emails to Sitemeter, but……..  Just wondering if anyone else out there is having problems with Sitemeter…………..:((

NOT ALL DAYS ARE BUBBLES & RAINBOWS

DSC_0004-001

A FEW HOSTA BLOOMS DROOPING OVER KELLY’S BICYCLE

My days are not a continuous string of happily floating bubbles & jelly bean rainbows. Those days in fact, are the exception but I sure appreciate them when they do happen to come along. Wednesday was a bit of a back slider as I again dealt with some of my summer restlessness. Instead of plopping myself into the computer chair after supper & moaning the blues, I plopped myself on the seat of the Motorcycle, rode out the driveway & on down the road.  We have a nice straight stretch of smooth pavement heading east once out of the park so I just run it up through the gears, crack on some speed, turn my head slightly to the right & let that free flowing fresh country air just blow happily through my mind.  Kind of clears out some of that old funky stale stuff in there. In my left ear & out my right.  Beautiful night for a relaxing ride in the quiet countryside & I even got to see a mangy looking Coyote lope across the road a few hundred yards ahead:))

---

Kelly has a few days off so we loaded up the Pheebs & headed for Mitchell to visit my Uncle Harry Wednesday. Not doing too bad but but it sure isn’t much of a life anymore. On the way home we stopped at Carter's Garage in Clinton & picked up the Motorhome, complete with new tailpipes. Each 6' pipe had to specifically measured, bent into shape & custom fitted.
IMG_2369

IMG_2378IMG_2380

I THINK SOMEBODY REQUESTED A PICTURE OF THE NEW PIPES

IMG_2370

THIS IS THE HYDRAULIC PIPE BENDING MACHINE THAT PUTS ALL THOSE TWISTS & BENDS IN THE PIPES
Our Sitemeter counter at the top of the right hand blog column had quit working & I was unable to log into that account for 2 or 3 days so that meant our counter had stopped. No amount of emails to Sitemeter's tech support brought a response. Even Kelly had been unable to figure out what happened. After checking a few Sitemeter counters on other fellow bloggers sites, I saw they were working fine.  Late this afternoon we finally did receive a note from Sitemeter that said, “Please note that there was a server problem the last two days which may have caused issues with logging in. It seemed to be affecting a handful of customers. The issue has since been resolved”……..Guess we were in that handful of customers.

---

Nothing special happening today. Kelly did notice 2 'house properties' for sale on her 'Real Estate For Sale' site this morning so we did take a couple hours to go have a look at them. They were both in this area but neither one was what we are looking for. At least it got us out on the road going to a couple places we had never been before. We did see an interesting & affordable piece of property in the Kootenays near Cranbrook BC but unfortunately an out of Province move is just not in the cards for us at this point. Needless to say, we are still in quite a ker-fuffle with our plans for the future but at least it generates some enthusiasm, hope, & excitement on both our parts for some probable changes at some point down the road. I really don't think full timing is going to happen for us but I haven't given up my dream of that possibly becoming a reality someday. Even if it was only for a couple years.  Just so much to see & so little time left to see it all.

SUNSET ON BAYFIELD’S BEACH

Now, to answer a few commenter's questions before I forget again. Think it was Donna C over at CAVE DWELLINGS who noticed a musical keyboard leaning against our sunroom wall in one of my photos a few days ago. No, neither Kelly or I play any musical instruments. I think the keyboard is just there holding up the wall or something. Kathy from CRYSTAL CREATIONS asks, "How is the Jif supply holding out? Do you need a care package of more Jif to hold you until the Fall? We really appreciated the Shreddies"!………….. Doing fine in the Jif peanut butter department Kathy. Kelly brought back a big supply for herself this Spring. I actually don't eat it because I prefer the natural peanut butter without any additives. Some readers may remember our delivery of Shreddies cereal to Kathy & Grant of the BirdingRVers at the KARTCHNER CAVERNS in Arizona earlier this year. You can read about our SHREDDIES DELIVERY here.  It begins about half way down the post.

A little slice & dice at the Goderich Hospital in the morning then I’ll see if I can talk myself into a wee spin through the countryside looking for some photos.  Noticed a lot of farmers last night & today out in the fields with their combines & hay wagons taking off the wheat, barley & oats.  I’m guessing at that last one.  Very picturesque rural scenes.

JUST ANOTHER DAY

DSC_6803

MONDAY NIGHT’S SUNSET ALONG THE BAYFIELD PIER, BAYFIELD ONTARIO

Had the big wheels rolling about 8:15 this morning. How nice having a reason to get up & a place to go, even if it was just a few miles to a Clinton garage for a couple new tailpipes on the rig.

It was Sandie & Jim's post over at WHERE ARE THE DIXON'S TODAY that caught my attention this morning.  Sandie writes, " There is such a feeling of happiness and excitement and knowing that is what we want to be doing." That of course refers to their joy of a mutually loved full timing RVing lifestyle. Sandie's post reminded me of how well I have been keeping a tight lid on my ever present & ever restless travel yearnings again this summer.

If you have a few minutes, I recommend this excellent narrated MOON TOUR.

BYE GUYS, & THANKS FOR THE GREAT WEEK-END

DSC_2776

Closed the hall door last night again & spent the night in my recliner with the gang sacked out near by. As soon as I stirred this morning around 5 a.m. I was pounced upon by wagging tails, slurrpy smooches, & playtime yips.  Minutes later I was on the floor with a big green blanket over my head for a rollicking game of 'Blanket Monster'. Little Guinness just loves wrestling with the big green Blanket Monster:))
DSC_2750

We finally made it all the way round the morning trail. Cooler air put a damper on the Deer Flies & they didn't seem to be biting. How nice to see all the guys roaring up & down the trails & bounding through the bush. I love seeing dogs running free.

IMG_2360

GUESS WHICH ONE OF THESE FURRY LITTLE SCALLYWAGS JUST CRAWLED OUT OF THE FROG POND

Kinda had myself a wee case of cabin fever after sticking so close to the A/C in the house this past week but with this mornings mid 50's temps I was looking forward to some outside physical activities again. Time to get those achy cobwebs out of my legs & time to pump some fresh air into this tired old head of mine & get a few dormant brain cells functioning again. I like when that happens.

AND A FINAL FEW PHOTOS FROM SATURDAY’S CORVETTE DAY SHOWING A FEW ‘VETTE’ POWER PLANTS

Yard work maintenance kept me busy for about an hour.   With the cooler air my thoughts turned to Fall, which in turn led me to some little jobs around the Motorhome. Windows, washing, & a general light inside clean-up. We take the rig in to have new tail pipes put on Tuesday morning. Even hauled out our seldom used bicycles for a wash. Of course, all the time keeping a wary on the frolicking & clowning of the action packed black dog gang. Never a dull moment with those guys for sure:))

DSC_0025-1

And finally, a call this morning from Dr. Anand's office. I am to report Friday morning to the Goderich hospital at 9:15 to have two growths removed. Fortunately, the one on my right temple has already completely disappeared so that just leaves the small one on my chest. With a little bit of luck, the biopsy on that one will turn out alright. Of the two small growths, it is the chest one they were concerned about.

Turned out to be a quiet afternoon, with the exception of the big green Blanket Monster stirring things up around 3 p.m. Kelly was home about 4 & Matt from DEER PARK LODGE came about 5 to pick up Stella & Guinness. Sad to see them go but we sure did enjoy having them here for the week-end. Lots of good times, snuggles, smooches, hugs, slurrpys & just general kibitzing around.  Bye Guys, & thanks for the great week-end.  The big green Blanket Monster’s gonna miss ya.

PHEEBS SCOUTS AHEAD FOR FROGS ON OUR MORNING WALK

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Veteran Pillsbury Spokesman, Pop-N Fresh, died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71 years old. Fresh was buried with one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including: Mrs Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and the Hostess Twinkies. The gravesite was piled high with flours, as long time friend, Aunt Jemima ,delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered to be a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and one in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 or about 20 minutes.

GOING TO MISS STELLA & GUINNESS WHEN THEY GO HOME MONDAY

DSC_0005

STELLA & PHEEBS…GUINNESS HAD ALREADY ROARED OUT OF THE PICTURE HEADING FOR THE POND

Changed things up a bit last night & left the hall door open. Slipped into my bed about midnight & woke up around 5 with Stella asleep on the bed beside me, Pheebs standing over me, tail wagging & puppy Guinness with her big paws up on the side of the bed trying to figure out how to get himself jumped up with the rest of the gang. What a great start to the day. Minutes later the zaniness was in full swing for another day. Guinness & Pheebs really play well together & what a pleasure & great source of entertainment it is watching the two of them tussling over a toy, wrestling, & kibitzing together. Their energy levels just keep going & going. And, I love getting down on the floor playing with all the guys too:))

IMG_3185

IMG_2352 IMG_2355

And, how refreshingly pleasant it was to step outside into a 70F morning. Instant energy. Perfect average temperatures for me are in the70 to 75 degree range. I was a bit optimistic the cooler temps might have discouraged the DEER FLIES.  But, not so & we soon had to turn around again. And, If all this heat is keeping you inside & making you a bit claustrophobic, how about a nice hike through a cooling mountain meadow in Colorado. Tag along with the folks over at BOX CANYON BLOG & enjoy the scenery at 13,000 feet:))

PHEEBS & GUINNESS ARE JUST A COUPLE OF CLOWNS:))

Must admit, I am not one of those folks who would be comfortable tenting in Bear country. I had a slight bear encounter back in 91 while camped in my Class B camper at CYPRESS LAKE on Ontario's Bruce Peninsula. The two bears brushed against my van while exiting the campground scaring the bajeebers out of me because I didn't know what had suddenly caused my van to 'rock' back & forth late one night. In the morning I found out the answer & saw what the bears had done to two tents on the other side of the campground where some of my photo class friends were camped. They had all been down at the lake partying when the marauding bears came through the camp. Campground was closed the next day & everyone had to leave while the bears were tracked, captured, & re-located. It was Chinle's post at SPOTTED DOG RANCH that triggered my bear encounter memory. Chinle is comfortable in a tent, where I prefer to be a few feet up off the ground surrounded by the reassurance of solid walls. Our security preferences may differ but we sure are on the same page when it comes to preferred areas & privacy of camping. Check out Chinle's post & she will tell you about some bears, a cougar, some other creatures that can go bump in the night & her preference for just getting away from it all……in a tent:))

'Ok', says Graham, 'are you ready?'
'Yes', came the answer.
'The obit. reads - ' Jones dead'.'
'No more?' asks the newsman in a very surprised voice.
'No, that's it, 'came the reply.
'I have to tell you, 'announced the advertiser, 'but there is a 5 word minimum.'
'Why didn't you tell me before?' complained Graham, 'in that case it will read:

OH OH, A SUN ROOM FULL OF GIRLS…..:))

DSC_0048

DSC_0041 DSC_0043DSC_0046

CORVETTE DAY AT CLANGREGOR SQUARE IN BAYFIELD

All us doggy critters slept in the living room last night. Stella on a doggy bed, Guinness on the rug, Pheebs on the couch & me in my recliner. Kelly cannot tolerate having her sleep disturbed in any way so we had the hall door closed & I rode herd on the gang all night. Of course I was asleep in the saddle for the most part but the guys were good & there was no zany stuff going on. Well, not too much anyway. Tried our luck at a cool morning walk but the biting Deer flies drove us right back out of the forest. Of course Guinness, being the little water puppy she is, ended up in the big frog pond for a swim on the way back.

RUNNING, PLAYING, & SWIMMING…THE ‘BLACK DOG GANG’ IS HAVING A BLAST

Another hot one going on so that pretty much eliminated any comfortable outside stuff again. Not much room in the Jeep plus no A/C meant there was no way of taking the doggy guys for a ride anywhere. Biting Deer flies ruled the forest trails & the only critters that appeared cool & happy outside the sun room window were the bird's frolicking in the bird bath. It was Bayfield’s annual Corvette day so while the guys were all snoozed out for a few minutes this afternoon I slipped out the door & headed into town. Would say it was the biggest turn out of Corvette's that Bayfield has ever had. Sifted around through the cars taking a few photos & 20 minutes later I was headed home...to a bit of a surprise.

DSC_0013

DSC_0034 DSC_0033

When I arrived home there was one young fellow in our driveway with Pheebs & Stella & 4 young teen-age girls in our sun room all gathered around Guinness hugging & petting him. I'm sure Guinness thought he had died & gone to heaven. The young fellow was Matt from DEER PARK LODGE & the girls were friends of his. Kelly, thinking I was home, had sent them all over because the girls had wanted to see Guinness. Imagine my surprise. No problem though, Stella & Pheebs were getting lots of attention as well.

Weatherman says cooler weather headed our way.  Thank you Mr. Weatherman.  Sure hope this past week or two are not an indication of what the rest of the summer will be like.  A month from now we will be bearing down on the mid August seasonal change in weather patterns & I am already looking forward to that very early indication of Fall.  My favorite season of the year by far:))

I’LL POST A FEW MORE CORVETTE PICS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS

A hazy cloud cover last night prevented me from attaining binocular lift off into the great depths of the Universe.  Well, as far as 50 power magnification could get me at least.  With binoculars this size it is important to use a tripod for viewing in order to have as stable a viewing platform as possible.  This of course brings me to my next dilemma.  I have desperately needed a new quality tripod for years now.  My mainstay Slik 88 tripod bought new back in the late 70’s is so bandaged, splinted, dented, bent, & banged up now that it is all but unusable.  It’s a small miracle it has not collapsed with camera gear on it.  I do have two other camera tripods but they are also broke because they were cheapos.  I sometimes have a bad habit of trying to save a dollar by buying the cheapest of something I can find.  Those two plastic tripods are a good example of my folly.  Had I spent the money a few years ago & bought myself one good quality built tripod I wouldn’t have to be faced with the decision of buying another new one now.  Not very smart to mount expensive camera gear, a telescope, or Skymaster binoculars on a two bit cheap broken down tripod.  Nope, not too darn smart at all!!

<<< TREATS FOR ALL THE ‘GOOD DOGGY GUYS’ TODAY…FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IT’S PHEEBS, GUINNESS, & STELLA:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Three mechanics were in the bathroom standing at the urinals. The first mechanic finishes and walks over to the sink to wash his hands. He then proceeds to dry his hands very carefully. He uses paper towel after paper towel and ensures that every single spot of water on his hands is dried. Turning to the other two, he says, "At Ford, we are trained to be extremely thorough."
The second mechanic finishes his task at the urinal and he proceeds to wash his hands. He uses a single paper towel and makes sure that he dries his hands using every available portion of the paper towel. He turns and says, "At Chevrolet, not only are we trained to be extremely thorough but we are also trained to be extremely efficient."
The third mechanic finished and walks straight for the door, shouting over his shoulder: "At Jeep, we don't pee on our hands."
