NICE MORNING IN THE MARSH WHERE I COMPARE A COUPLE CAMERA LENSES

DSC_0800

Went to bed with clouds and rain then woke up this morning sunny again.  Air was cool sky was blue I wrote this poem just for you:))

Pheebs and I headed on over to the Hullett Marsh for a wee walk along one of the dykes.  Big white fluffy clouds in the sky made for a picturesque morning.  Set up my camera tripod and took a few long distance photos with my 70-300mm lens as well as my newer 18-300 lens for comparison.  At a full 300mm they were comparatively close in sharpness which surprised me.  I thought for sure the 70-300 lens would have been the sharper of the two.

I think it’s pretty safe to say most of the photos you see in my posts from here on in now will be done with my new camera combination which will be the new to me Nikon D7200 coupled with the new Nikkor 18-300mm lens.  They work well together and the convenience of having one camera and one lens is huge.  I will keep my D3400 camera as a back-up as well as my 70-300 and 18-55 lenses.  My D3100 camera I plan to trade in.  The ‘selfie’ below was taken this morning with my Sony RX100 3.

IT’S FUNNY HOW I NEVER THINK OF MY EYE GLASSES AS BEING TINTED UNTIL I SEE A PICTURE OF MYSELF….I HAVEN’T HAD THE NEED TO WEAR REGULAR SUNGLASSES FOR NEARLY 3 YEARS SINCE SWITCHING TO PROGRESSIVE LENSES IN WICKENBURG ARIZONA

All was relaxingly quiet in the Marsh this morning but I did happen to notice another feller and he too was carrying some camera gear.  We kinda steered clear of each other because I suspect he was out in the Marsh for the same reasons I was out here.  No people!!  Just a quiet walk alone with nature on a beautiful June morning.

Last winter while in the southwest we had talked a bit about maybe taking the Motorhome and heading off for a few days here and there around the area during the summer but I don’t think we’ll probably end up doing that.  We both seem to be very content with staying where we are for the months we are home.  Kelly hasn’t been feeling just the best some days so I think we’ll keep things low key.  She has another Doctors appointment coming up Monday morning in Bayfield.

Next month at this time we will already be closing in on the month of August.  We’ve been home from the southwest nearly three and a half months and I have to wonder where has the time gone.  Seems like only yesterday we pulled into our driveway here.  These Senior years are sure flying by………

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Deep within a forest, a little turtle began to climb a tree...  After hours of effort, he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground. After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground. The turtle tried again and again, while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.  "Dear," she chirped, "I think it's time to tell him he's adopted."

A boy was teaching a girl arithmetic, he said it was his mission. He kissed her once; he kissed her twice and said, "Now that's addition." In silent satisfaction, she sweetly gave the kisses back and said, "Now that's subtraction." Then he kissed her, she kissed him, without an explanation. And both together smiled and said, "That's multiplication." Then her Dad appeared upon the scene and made a quick decision. He shooed the boy three blocks away and said, "That's long division!"

Three boys are in the schoolyard bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, "My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, and they give him $50." The second boy says, "That's nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, and they give him $100." The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people to collect all the money!"

A YOUNG FAMILY ENJOYS A QUIET MOMENT SITTING BY THE LAKE THIS MORNING

Working on Monday night's post I hadn't taken much notice of the darkening skies outside our sunroom window.  Wasn't until a big wind gust rocked our tall pine trees bringing down some small branches in our yard that I realized a storm had just come ashore about a mile west of us.  Knowing I was probably already too late to catch any storm photos out over the lake I grabbed my camera, jumped into the Jeep and headed towards the lake anyway.

BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE LAKE AT PIONEER PARK I COULD SEE SKIES WERE ALREADY BEGINNING TO CLEAR

In my rear view I could see skies were already blacker to the east and knew the storm was heading inland.  Already out over the lake skies were beginning to clear.  Knew if I was going to get myself any storm cloud photos I would have to quickly retrace my steps back towards home. Minutes later I drove past our Park and out of the forest into open skies.  Could see right away the main part of the storm had come ashore north of us up around Goderich and was making it's way inland.  Didn't see any lightning but I could hear thunder rolling across the land.

Luckily it wasn't raining where I was so pulled over on a nearby country road and took a few photos of the turbulent skies to the north and northeast of my location.  I figured the folks up around Auburn and Blyth were probably getting dumped on pretty good.  I've always loved watching storms and I've found getting out to photograph them is always exciting.

DSC_0977With heavy rains pounding on our roof this morning around 6 a.m. I thought to myself, 'Awwww Nuts it's gonna be an inside day'.  Nope, two hours later with no sign of rain on the radar and roads already drying Pheebs and I were on our way to Goderich again and this time it was to pick up some dog food.

With skies brightening and being surrounded by refreshingly cool air we swung down around the  north harbor and grabbed a few photos.  The big Coast Guard Cutter police boat was gone and some of the work barges and cranes were not to be found.

DSC_0995DSC_0997DSC_1001DSC_1002DSC_1004

I am always reminded how fortunate we are to live where we do and I was again thinking of that this morning as I drove from one side of the harbor to the other stopping to take the photos below in between.

Swinging around through town from the North shore harbor to the south shore harbor we headed for Rotary Cover and the doggy walking area at the far end.  Cool breeze off the lake and I was glad I had worn a jacket.  No matter, it still beats the heat!!  Had ourselves a nice scenic walk overlooking Lake Huron’s choppy waters, a result of Monday night’s storm.

On our way home along the beach I was able to snap a few more photos of folks enjoying the exercise equipment alongside the boardwalk.  Also saw one of the big barges with a crane on it in the distance.  Looks like some kind of work going on between the Sifto Salt Mine and the mouth of the Maitland River where it empties into Lake Huron.

We were home shortly after 11 and I figured it was about time I put the battery into my motorcycle and see if it would start.  It was last October when I had taken the battery out and stored the bike for the winter.  It started up on the fifth crank and ran fine.  Gave it a wash for the last time.  Kelly had phoned the motorcycle dealer guy in Goderich to see if he sold bikes on consignment and he said he did so guess that is what we’ll do.  I would much sooner have someone else sell the bike than me.  I absolutely hate all that bickering and dickering and wheeling and dealing when it comes to either buying something or selling something.  I have no patience or interest in the bafflegab mindset that goes along with that kind of stuff!!

This Nikon D7200 of mine is a whole heck of a lot smarter than I am for sure so this morning I decided to let the camera make all the decisions instead of me.  'Walla' I think that camera and I are beginning to understand each other.  We've been sort of tussling back and forth with each other but I guess it's all part of getting to know one another’s perks and foibles.  It seems the camera has the perks and I have the foibles.  People have talked glowingly about Nikon's D7200 and I am just beginning to understand what they mean.

DSC_1067

It's funny how I wake up most every morning with the thought in my head I am not going to write a post today and generally within an hour and often times sooner my mind is already working on a few ideas for my nightly effort.  Can hardly wait most times to get out the door, load up the Pheebs, and head off coffee in hand to see if we can chase us down a few photos somewhere.  What a life huh…

DSC_1029

With Kelly and I being very independent people I have found these morning photo safaris of mine to be a good thing for both of us.  For Kelly especially because it gives her a nice break from me for a few hours.  Some people need their space more than others and I have always been one who actually needs a lot of space.  I thoroughly enjoy my few hours each day with Pheebs out wandering around the countryside and I'm sure Kelly enjoys her time alone as well.  It's something we've never really talked much about but sometimes things are just felt and known without talking about them.  Sometimes when on the road in the winter months down south it’s hard for us to find those ‘alone’ times.  Pretty cramped in an RV of course.  At home here Kelly has the whole living room for her nightly TV shows and I of course have the sunroom all to myself with my music to work on my blog.  It’s just something that works very well for us, maybe not everybody’s cup of tea but it sure helps us hang on to our own individual independence:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A man goes to the doctor, worried about his wife's temper. The doctor asks, “What’s the problem?”The man says, “Doctor, I don’t know what to do. Every day my wife seems to lose her temper for no reason. It scares me.” The doctor says, “I have a cure for that. When it seems that your wife is getting angry, just take a glass of water and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don’t swallow it until she either leaves the room or calms down.” Two weeks later, the man comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. The man says, “Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my wife started losing it, I swished with water. I swished and swished, and she calmed right down! How does a glass of water do that?” The doctor says, “The water itself does nothing. It’s keeping your mouth shut that does the trick.”
