MY ‘SMARTYPANTS’ PHONE ARRIVED TODAY AND IT’S UP AND RUNNING

DSC_6052

Our Jeep rolled out the driveway before 8 a.m. this morning but I was the only one in it.  Kelly and Pheebs followed in the Pontiac Sunfire as I headed for the Bayfield Garage.  Have noticed a few ‘bumps’ when the transmission shifts so it was time to have the transmission fluid level checked.  Although the engine oil level is easy to check with a dipstick the transmission fluid on this engine does not have the usual dipstick to check it.  Dumb eh, but more and more engines are coming out that way with no transmission dipsticks.  Also while Libby was in the garage we had a passenger side brake light bulb replaced and a driver’s side window adjusted.  It has been coming up crooked then takes a bit of finagling to get it to straightened out.  All is good now.

Kelly suggested Pheebs and I take the Sunfire out for our morning cruise but with it being overcast again I couldn’t seem to drum up much enthusiasm for that.  Skies brightened around noon and old Sol finally made his way through.  Despite it turning out to be a really nice weather day for doing things outside I could not seem to get myself in the groove.  Maybe I will have to try some of those vitamins a few folks mentioned in our Shout Box and see if I can’t get my energy levels back up to par.

Kelly dropped me off about 3 to pick up the Jeep at the garage then continued on to the post office and picked up my Samsung Smartphone.   Back home we weren’t long in unpacking it and figuring things out.  Fortunately with Kelly already having a Blackberry Smartphone for the past few years she had some idea what to do.  Quite a job getting the Sim card in and had it not being for Kelly having the patience to do that finicky step I would have had to go get my hammer out of the shed and really get the job done.  She showed me how to take and send a photo, send or receive a phone call and even tried to trick me into texting something.  It’s going to be quite a process methinks……………….

It is so hard for me to be patient with myself at this age when trying to learn new things and no doubt this Smartypants phone is going to be a challenge but I do have a good feeling about it.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A tough U.S. Marine sergeant got word that the father of one of his men had passed away. At roll call he snapped, "Hey, Smith, your father died!" The Marine fainted on the spot. A week later the sister of another Marine died, and the sergeant once again called his men together. "Jones," he yelled out, "your sister died last night!" The Marine burst into tears. Finally, word got back to the general about the sergeant's insensitivity, and he was called on the carpet and told to be less direct and gruff when one of his men suffered a tragedy. A week later the sergeant was notified that Private Miller had just lost his mother.  Remembering what the general had said, he lined up his troop and ordered "Everyone whose mother is alive, please take one step forward - not so fast, Miller!"

A couple had been married for 35 years, and the pair was also celebrating their 60th birthdays. During the celebration, a fairy godmother appeared and said that because they had been such a loving couple all those years, she would give them each one wish.   The wife said she wanted to travel around the world. The fairy godmother waved her magic wand and BOOM! The wife had the tickets in her hand.   Then it was the husband's turn. He paused for a moment, then said boldly, "Well, I'd like to have a wife 30 years younger than I." The fairy godmother picked up her wand and BOOM! He was now 90.

A SLOW START TO THE DAY BUT IT DID GET BETTER….WEATHER’S LOOKING GOOD IF IT DON’T GET WETTER

Although not a Facebook person I do like that Facebook feature I’ve noticed lately that lets me look back over the years to see what I blogged about on each successive date.   Checking back this past week I have noticed a pattern in my blogs for this summer time period and it appears the pattern is again the same this year.  Guess I’ll just call it my annual mid summer blog stumble problem.  Seems to happen each year about this time and I see posts where I only blogged one line or one paragraph and in some cases I didn’t blog anything at all.    Today and yesterday have been good examples of that trend.  Pheebs and I did head out both mornings but I could not seem to get interested in anything and our rides were on the short side.  Did manage a few rural photos this morning though

HOW NICE TO HAVE COUNTRY ROADS ALL TO ONESELF

Things have been growing like gang busters around our yard so despite today’s humidity in the air I did manage to get a bunch of yard maintenance done before having to finally retreat inside and throw myself into the shower to get cooled off.  Next month at this time we will be fast closing in on September and cooler dry air.  Yay team.

DSC_2863Sunshine finally broke through about mid-afternoon and we ended up with a beautiful looking day.  Took my Nikon D7200 and 35mm prime Nikkor lens for a walk around the front yard and scrambled me up some flower photos for tonight’s post.

Just as in life it sometimes takes darker days to make us really appreciate the brighter days when they finally do come along.  Too many sunny days in a row can get boring just as too many cloudy days can become depressing.  In between is a nice healthy mixture with a definite tilt towards brighter sunny days.  Luckily for we folks here in southern Ontario I think in the long run we do get the best of the best when it comes to just the right amount of sunshine to basically keep one from becoming too bored or too depressed.

By tomorrow night at this time I should have myself well immersed in my new Smartphone.  It is due to arrive Friday but it is not the Motorola Moto G5 we had originally ordered.  Due to a last minute ker-fuffle with the on-line phone order Kelly cancelled it and we backed up a bit and re-thought our strategy.   With some new found facts in front of her Kelly called Bell Telephone direct and negotiated a sweet deal on a Samsung Galaxy A5 phone with a low monthly payment plan plus some perks.  Good thing I didn’t call Bell or they would probably have sent ME a lump of coal and of course not knowing any better I would have thought that was just groovy.  Can you imagine me trying to dial a lump of coal.  I can:((

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A little boy walks up to the preacher after church one day and says, "Preacher, when I grow up and get a job, I am going to give you a lot of money." The preacher says, "Why do you want to do that?"  The boy replies, " Because my Daddy said that you are the poorest preacher he has ever heard."

The Associate Minister unveiled the church's new tithing campaign slogan last Sunday: "I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours."
- Don't let worry kill you, let the church help.
- This being Easter Sunday, we will ask Mrs. Lewis to come forward and lay an egg on the altar.

- Why is a government worker like a broken shotgun? It won't work and you can't fire it.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A pregnant woman gets into a car accident and falls into a deep coma.
Asleep for nearly six months, she wakes up and sees that she is no longer pregnant. Frantically, she asks the doctor about her baby.  The doctor replies, "Ma'am, you had twins! A boy and a girl. The babies are fine. Your brother came in and named them."  The woman thinks to herself, "Oh no, not my brother -- he's an idiot!" Expecting the worst, she asks the doctor, "Well, what's the girl's name?"  "Denise," the doctor says.  The new mother thinks, "Wow, that's not a bad name! Guess I was wrong about my brother. I like Denise!" Then she asks the doctor, "What's the boy's name?"  The doctor replies, DeNephew.
