SUNDAY MORNINGS ARE ALWAYS BEST FOR QUIET DRIVES THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE

DSC_4035

Can’t even begin to describe how beautiful a morning it was.  Sunny skies with moderately warm air and a refreshingly cool breeze coming in off the lake.  Sunday mornings are by far my very much most favoritist time to be out in the countryside.  Very little traffic anywhere and everything always seems so peaceful on a Sunday morning.  Another great little scenic drive for Pheebs and I.

By the time we made it back home around 11 the day’s heat was building but I was able to re-pack a few Motorhome bins plus go over a couple bin doors with some rubbing compound.  Last February just outside Borrego Springs California at one of our boon-docking sites I had to cut a corner when leaving and brushed the passenger side of the rig up against an old dead Ocotillo shrub.  That left some scratches.  A short time later while boon-docked on Ogilby Road west of Yuma I was able to work away with rubbing compound and greatly reduce those scratches on two of four bin doors.  This morning I did the third door leaving only one to go.  I was also able to get a little Meguires Marine wax on the coach as well before the humidity drove me back into the house for the rest of the day.

It’s been a few weeks since activating my new Smartypants phone so how am I doing.  Well let me put it this way…….I have not had to make one single call with it nor have I had to receive one single call.  Therefore I feel I’m doing pretty darn good:))

Been thinking of a few travel plan scenarios for this winter but of course it’s way too early to be thinking along those lines.   Never the less it always gives me a little tweak whenever my mind does happen to drift off in that direction.  I just have to be careful not to let myself drift too far too soon.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Two bees ran into each other. The first bee asked the other how things were going.  "Really bad," said the second bee. "The weather has been really wet and damp and there aren't any flowers or pollen, so I can't make any honey."  "No problem," said the first bee. "Just fly down five blocks and turn left. Keep going until you see all the cars. There's a Bar Mitzvah going on and there are all kinds of fresh flowers and fruit."  "Thanks for the tip," said the second bee, and he flew away.  A few hours later, the two bees ran into each other again. The first bee asked, "How'd it go?""Great!" said the second bee. "It was everything you said it would be."  "Uh, what's that thing on your head?" asked the first bee.  "That's my yarmulke," said the second bee. "I didn't want them to think I was a wasp."

Little Johnny was caught swearing by his teacher. "Johnny," she said, "you shouldn't use that kind of language. Where did you hear such talk, anyway?" "My daddy said it," he responded. "Well, that doesn't matter," explained the teacher. "You don't even know what it means." "I do, too!" Little Johnny retorted. "It means the car won't start."

A SATURDAY MORNING COFFEE TOUR WITHOUT THE PHEEBS

DSC_3971

Because of inclement weather and the fact we had the cable guy coming a couple mornings ago and due to Richard and Gayle having to go to Port Huron at the same time Richard and I missed our semi-monthly Thursday morning coffee tour.  We made up for that this morning.  Despite cloudy skies and plowing through an occasional rain shower we made our way up through Mennonite Country.  It was my turn to drive and as usual we had ourselves a great yakky-doodle morning.  Good stuff.

Skies finally cleared and we ended our day in sunshine.  Took Pheebs for an evening walk around the Pine Tree trail.  Sad to see so many trees being cut down:((

GROANER’S CORNER:((  On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students: "The female dormitory is out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time. The second time you will be fined $60. A third time will cost you a fine of $180. Are there any questions?" A male student inquired, "How much for a season pass?"

The math teacher saw that Daphne wasn't paying attention in class.  She called on her and said, 'Daphne! What are 7 and 2, and 28 and 44?'
Daphne quickly replied, 'ABC, CBS, HBO and the Cartoon Network!'

A visitor to a certain college paused to admire the new Hemingway Hall that had been built on campus. "It's a pleasure to see a building named for Ernest Hemingway," he said. "Actually," said his guide, "it's named for Joshua Hemingway. No relation." The visitor was astonished. "Was Joshua Hemingway a writer, also?" "Yes, indeed," said his guide. "He wrote a check."

HAD TO SAY TO THE LADY….’WE GOTTA STOP MEETING LIKE THIS’

DSC_3954

WE HAD OURSELVES A MOODY SKY DAY

Heavy rains came and went in the night but a single small rain cloud trailing behind snuck ashore this morning and caught Kelly and Pheebs out walking.  Didn’t last long but enough rain came down that I jumped into the Jeep and headed out to rescue the two rain soaked bums.  Couldn’t find them right off and by the time I got back to our driveway they were just coming across the road.  Kelly looked about as dry as a parched desert and Pheebs looked like she had just gone down with the Titanic.

THE FAMILY THAT EATS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER

A swing down around the Goderich harbor netted us a leg stretch along the shores of Lake Huron.  Waters were choppy with only a large lake freighter on the horizon.  Seeings how we had unpredictable ominous clouds overhead we didn’t venture too far from the Jeep.  Not too many folks out walking the boardwalk either.

Had to stop into Zehr’s Supermarket in Goderich to pick up some bananas and things and while in there I met a lady whom I had to tell ‘we gotta stop meeting like this.’  I was motoring along with my little cart of groceries when I heard 3 or 4 seemingly familiar ‘Ew-oos’ directed my way from somewhere.  With a quick scan in the Ew-oo direction I spotted the source and by golly seen it was a good looker too.  Without hesitation I wheeled a sharp left turn and headed for her.  Well it was Kelly of course and neither one of us had known the other one was headed for the grocery store this morning.  That was the second time in one week we bumped into each other with the other time being in Walmart.  Oh it is quite the little shoppers we are.

ONBOARD THE HELL BOUND TRAIN

With dark overcast clouds threatening rain any moment Pheebs and I took the longer scenic way home and snapped us a few photos along the way.  Once home I worked away a bit in the Motorhome pulling things out of cupboards and deciding what would stay for the upcoming season and what should go.  Decisions, decisions, all the time decisions.

Kelly this morning had a question for  me regarding my Thursday night post.  She asked, ‘do you suppose people will think I am a problem and that’s why you like your morning alone time’?  I was quick to point out to her that over the years I have always been clear in any of my posts to point out that she is never a problem and that it is I who is always the problem whenever any kind of problem seems to arise.   Now isn’t that the right thing for any man to say under the circumstances.  Yes, I thought so……….:))

GROANER’S CORNER:(( My son and his wife stopped by Sunday unannounced to visit. I wouldn't answer the door but I did hold up my new medicine container and pointed to the instructions. Instructions read: 'Take one tablet before bedtime and Keep away from children.'

Sam had proposed to young Lisa and was being interviewed by his prospective father-in-law. "Do you think you are earning enough to support a family?" the older man asked the suitor. "Yes, sir," replied Sam, "I am." "Well," said Lisa's father, "think carefully now. There are six of us."

I like this poem our friend and neighbor Monica emailed us yesterday………………..

I remember the corned beef of my Childhood,
And the bread that we cut with a knife,
When the Children helped with the housework,
And the men went to work not the wife.

The cheese never needed a fridge,
And the bread was so crusty and hot,
The Children were seldom unhappy,
And the Wife was content with her lot.

I remember the milk from the bottle,
With the yummy cream on the top,
Our dinner came hot from the oven,
And not from a freezer; or shop.

The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn't need money for kicks,
Just a game with their friends in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks.

I remember the shop on the corner,
Where biscuits for pennies were sold
Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic?
Or is it, I'm just getting Old?

Bathing was done in a wash tub,
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.

I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore
Anorexia and diets weren't heard of
And we hadn't much choice what we wore.

Do you think that bruised our ego?
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.
