PHEEBS AND I ARE HAPPY TO HAVE KELLY HOME AGAIN:))

DSC_5376

With a descending crescent Moon low on the western horizon the first constellation I saw stepping out of the Jeep Saturday night was the large dipping teapot of ‘Sagittarius’.  A quick glance about 15 degrees to the right found the mighty scorpion ‘Scorpius’ in it’s allotted night sky space.  Scorpius is one of my all time favs.  Despite my challenged memory I was able to move on from there and cruise around the night sky finding more constellations where I had previously remembered them.  Knowing the exact place to find the Andromeda Galaxy I hauled out my binoculars and was relieved to find it still in place.  Although only a light smudge in the sky it is our closest neighboring Galaxy…….and it’s slowly headed this way.  Oh not to worry, it may be a few million years before it gets here and if things keep politically going the way they are Earth will be long gone anyway………………

ONLY CAMERA I TOOK WITH ME WAS MY SONY RX100-3 AND I WAS ABLE TO GET A COUPLE HAND HELD SHOTS……GLOW ON HORIZON IS CLINTON ONTARIO

With the Moon down over the horizon more stars became visible but I did notice light pollution has increased along the horizon lines especially to the south.  The Milky Way was not as prominent as I remembered it before.  Now there is one other thing which comes into play here and that is the comparison between southern Ontario’s night sky and that of the American Southwest.  Arizona night skies are much darker and whenever we see them it is in the winter months when the air is much cooler and the atmosphere much clearer.  This hot humid spell we are in right now in this part of Canada does not make for clear and crisp night skies.

Pheebs and I did make it out and about for a few hours this morning but the cool overnight air was  soon pushed aside by 9 a.m. when the day’s crushing heat and humidity were again upon us.  Rather than crank up the Jeep’s A/C we simply cranked all the windows down and kept ourselves moving.  Thankfully we have much cooler air on the way which should reach us about Thursday with temperatures dropping down into the low to mid 60’s.  Hallelujah Brother:)))))))

DSC_5345Reaching home around 11 Mike and Bruce were both here working on their respective separate projects for us.  Because of the heat I again emphasized there was no hurry to finish things but they were both nearly done and wanted to wrap the work up today.  And that is what they did.  Both the shed roof and vent projects are now done and what a great job the fellas did.  Mike will be back again later to work on another plumbing project for us.  I wrote a post years ago saying something to the effect, if I want something done right I’m better off getting somebody else to do it’.  These two projects were a good example of that.  Yes it costs us money but at least the jobs are done right and that gives me peace of mind.

Kelly rolled in from Spencerport New York at 3:05 this afternoon.  Said the traffic was bad all the way even for a Sunday.  Took her 6 hours to get to Spencerport last week and 5 hours to come home today.  She is totally exhausted.  I think the amount of traffic overall is steadily increasing everywhere and especially on the eastern side of North America.

Pheebs and I were happy to see Kelly home safe and sound.  Nice to get caught up on things again and have the Bayfield Bunch team back up to full strength.  With Doctor’s appointments coming up shortly for both of us October is shaping up to be quite possibly a very busy month for us.   Kelly’s scan in London is on the 2nd then she meets with her specialist.  I have an appointment with my PSA specialist on the tenth and somewhere in there I’ll have to make an appointment to see my Nurse Practitioner as well.  If we are told we are ‘good to go’ then our winter travel plans kick into high gear.  Depending where we go will depend on when we leave which may be a bit later this year than usual…………….

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A young woman brings home her fiancée to meet her parents. After dinner, her mother tells her father to find out about the young man. The father invites the fiancée to his study for a drink.  "So what are your plans?" the father asks the young man.   "I am a Torah scholar," he replies.   "A Torah scholar. Hmm." the father says. "Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in as she's accustomed to?"   "I will study," the young man replies, "and God will provide for us."   "And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring such as she deserves?" asks the father.   "I will concentrate on my studies," the young man replies, "and God will provide for us." "And children?" asks the father. "How will you support children?"   "Don't worry, sir, God will provide," replies the fiancée.    The conversation proceeds like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insists that God will provide.   Later, the mother asks, "How did it go, honey?"   The father answers, "He has no job and no plans, but the good news is he thinks I'm God."

I LOOK FORWARD AGAIN TO REACHING UP AND TOUCHING THE STARS

DSC_5306

Work is progressing on our shed roof.  There was more rain damage to the roof than previously thought.   However, Mike has the repairs and re-shingling coming down the home stretch.  Our other friend and neighbor Bruce is making a couple of wired ventilation frames for underneath our mobile to be used in the warmer months for circulating air.  We are sure lucky to have a few handy fellas like Mike, Bruce, and Richard in our Park.

A short drive for Pheebs and I this morning.  Goderich and back.  With this heavy humidity upon us again anything I have to get done outside I have to get done early.  Friday afternoon I had to kick on the A/C by 3 p.m.  Noticed a couple neighbors had their air on this morning by 10.  I wasn’t too far behind.  News tonight said these are record breaking temperatures for this area this time of year.  I believe them.

I did manage to haul my 200+ pounds up onto the Motorhome’s roof to clean the 4 solar panels.  Roof itself looked good and the caulking appeared to be in fine shape as well.  Aside from the usual pine needles on the roof all was A-OK.  Just as leaves fall from trees in Autumn so do pine needles and over the next few weeks our roads in here will be covered giving our Park an Oz like ‘yellow brick road’ look.

YELLOWING BEAN FIELDS

It has been well over half a year since I last stood under a starry night sky and tonight that is just exactly what I plan to do.  I will load up the Pheebs and we will drive a few miles east or our place to a favorite spot on a dark country road where I can look up with an unobstructed view of the vast heavens stretching above.  With an interest in Astronomy nearly 20 years ago and while living in the old farm house near Fullarton Ontario I was able with the help of my books, maps, and star charts to figure out where the locations of most of the night sky’s constellations were.  Oh how I loved to step out the door at and peer skyward looking for and locating what soon were to become like so many new and old friends.  I still do that most every night while we are in the southwest for the winter but here in the pine forest I can’t see the night sky clearly and it seems I’m too lazy to get in the Jeep and drive the short distance out into the countryside each night.  Well except for tonight that is but with a little bit of luck next month maybe around this time or a bit later we will once again be heading for the great American Southwest where I can stand transfixed under that black velvety canopy of glittering diamonds stretching over me from horizon to horizon, mountain top to mountain top.  The night sky has always felt like an old friend to me and I have always taken great comfort in the feelings of calm it brings me.  I again look forward to reaching up tonight and touching the stars…….

DSC_5265GROANER’S CORNER:((  While enjoying an early morning breakfast in a northern Arizona cafe, four elderly ranchers were discussing everything from cattle, horses, and weather to how things used to be in the "good old days."   Eventually the conversation moved on to their spouses. One gentleman turned to the fellow on his right and asked, "Roy, aren't you and your bride celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary soon?"   "Yup, we sure are," Roy replied.   "Well, are you gonna do anything special to celebrate?" another man asked.   The old gentleman pondered this for a moment, then replied, "For our 25th anniversary, I took the misses to Tucson. For our 50th, I'm thinking about going down there again to pick her up."

Despite hotter summer like weather returning Pheebs and I are still able to get out earlier in the cool mornings.  Looking forward to Autumn's seasonal weather slipping back in by mid week.  Our wanderings took us up into the Wingham Ontario area where we stopped at a Subway and shared us a 6” Tuna Sub with all the fixins.  And a good mess was made by all…………………

GROANER’S CORNER:(( One night, a wife found her husband standing over their baby’s crib. Silently she watched him.  As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, even skepticism.
Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arm around her husband. “A penny for your thoughts,” she said.  “It’s amazing!” he replied. “I just can’t see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $67.50.”

DSC_5280DSC_5295DSC_5283DSC_5296DSC_5272GROANER’S CORNER:(( Sid and Joe were sitting in a Chinese restaurant. "Sid," asked Joe, "Are there any Jews in China?" "I don't know," Sid replied. "Why don't we ask the waiter?"When the waiter came by, Joe said, "Are there any Chinese Jews?"  "I don't know sir, let me ask," the waiter replied and he went into the kitchen.  He quickly returned and said, "No, sir. No Chinese Jews."  "Are you sure?" Joe asked.  "I will check again, sir." the waiter replied and went back to the kitchen.  While he was still gone, Sid said, "I cannot believe there are no Jews in China. Our people are scattered everywhere."  When the waiter returned he said, "Sir, no Chinese Jews."  "Are you really sure?" Joe asked again. "I cannot believe there are no Chinese Jews."  "Sir, I ask everyone," the waiter replied exasperated. "We have orange jews, prune jews, tomato jews and grape jews, but no one ever hear of Chinese jews!"
