I PREDICTED A COOL ALL DAY RAIN SO SKIES CLEARED LEAVING US WITH SUNSHINE AND WARM TEMPERATURES

DSC_5836

THE ‘MANITOWOC’ LEAVES GODERICH HARBOR THIS MORNING

Rains again came in the night and stayed to nearly noon.  Undaunted, Pheebs and I struck out for Goderich anyway sticking to paved roads.  Those country roads looked pretty soupy when we went by them.  I had hoped the rains would let up but alas they didn’t so after grabbing a coffee and muffin we swung down around both sides of the harbor then plotted a course for home.  We did see one Lake Freighter heading out of the harbor with a load of salt on board.  Watched the Manitowoc set course for the horizon and watched as it slowly faded away into Saturday mornings misty rain.

Being the keen weather person I am I could tell from the clouds it was going to be an all day rain so I adjusted my mood accordingly.  Twenty minutes after pulling into our driveway at home the Sun popped out.  Ten minutes after that I was on the end of my long scrub brush washing down the sides of the Motorhome and not a drop of rain fell for the rest of the day as skies cleared and temperatures soared to over 75F.  If you ever have any questions about our weather don’t be afraid to ask me Okay………

It’s Thanksgiving Week-end here in Canada and at our house Kelly whooped us guys up a big yummy turkey dinner today with all the fix-ins.  Choice of two pies too, apple or pumpkin.  I prefer both.  House smelled marvelous all afternoon.  I’m not much of a big eater anymore but I sure over-stuffed myself as if there were no tomorrow.  But hey, it was my 73rd birthday today and Kelly said I was allowed to do that…………:))

What does this mean to you?" After a reflective pause, one student volunteered, "Well, for one thing, the Jewish people had to do without Chinese food for 1063 years."

PHEEBS AND I TOOK THE MOTORHOME FOR A SPIN THIS MORNING

DSC_5823

CRUISING DOWN THE ROAD IN THE BIG EEE

Rains came and went in the night leaving us with a mainly cloudy day.  A short drive to Goderich for Pheebs and I and we were back home again.  Traded our Jeep hats for our RV hats, fired up the Motorhome, and off we went to Clinton.  The rig was needing a run plus I wanted to flush and dump our gray and black tanks at a dump station near the new fire hall and horse racing facility.  That done we picked up some gas at a north end Shell station and headed back home.  The Big E ran well.

With today's sky being overcast it was a good opportunity to finish cleaning the coaches glass and I did that by doing the last expanse of glass I had left to do…….the windshield.  Motorhome’s back cap was pretty dirty after sitting all summer so with my tall ladder, a bucket of soapy water and a hose I soon had the rear of the rig cleaned up as well.   I'll work on the sides over the next few days.  Whether we make it to the southwest this winter or not I at least hope to have the Motorhome cleaned up...............................

THOROUGHLY ENJOYING OUR AUTUMN WEATHER AND A FEW VIEWS FROM INSIDE A CORNFIELD

DSC_5751

PERSONALLY THIS IS MY FAVORITE BAYFIELD WHEN IT IS QUIETLY FREE OF ALL THE TOURISTS AND NOT A SOUL IS TO BE SEEN

Just when I think these magical Autumn days cannot get any better they simply do.  For me it is the best time of year by far and poking along the country roads this morning with windows down I again marveled at the surreal feeling in the air that only makes itself present at this time of year during the months of September and October.  Some mornings the air is still enough to float on and other days light Autumn breezes can transport me to far off places of myth and magic.  It is Autumn which brings back my many pleasant memories of childhood and those first few days and weeks of my earliest learning in the old two story brick Tavistock Public School .  The kids, the playgrounds, ball diamonds, laughter, new and old friends with many adventures on and off the playground, warm sunny days with gentle cooling breezes.  I remember the smell of the classrooms, old wood desks and the schools creaky wooden floors with it's scented sprinklings of green janitorial cleaners.  Varnished window and door frames and I remember the smell of books, erasers, pencils, farts, and Lepage's glue as we pasted things into our art class binders.  And yes i used the fart word there.  Kids are always letting off farts and it was all part of the overall classroom smell.  At any unsuspecting time one’s nose would curl up as an invisible cloud of methane gas would permeate through the classroom bringing forth giggles and sideways accusing glances.  Each Autumn at this time of year all these memories come back reminding me of the days I would sit staring out tall multi-paned classroom windows at wind rustled Autumn leaves just a short stone's throw away.  I was always a dreamer wanting to be outside in the sunshine hoping a passing breeze would swoop me up like a leaf on a tree and carry me off to enchanted lands far far away.  Not being able to readily do that I would sometimes squeeze off a little methane just to get back at whatever unknown forces were preventing me from doing what it was I wanted to be doing.  Besides,  I got a kick out of watching unsuspecting noses curl up as well…...so there:))

AS YOU CAN SEE OUR FORESTS ARE STILL PREDOMINITELY GREEN

Had to dress myself on the warm side first thing this morning and we did have to snap on a little bit of heat in the Jeep until the Sun got up high enough to bring the days warming temperatures to us.  Kelly had entrusted us with a mission today to bring home an apple pie along with a new bag of doggy treats for Pheebs.  Both those items were attainable in Zurich Ontario so at some point in our morning's wanderings I knew we had to make a couple stops in Zurich.  First stop was at Jerry Rader's Homestyle Country Market for the Dutch Apple Pie and a Turkey Salad sandwich then half a block down the road to the South Huron Veterinary Clinic for Pheebs diet doggy treats.

‘OK DAD TIME TO GET YOURSELF OUT OF THAT CORNFIELD’!!!!

Whenever Pheebs and I head south of Bayfield we generally take a drive down around the Bayfield Harbor before stopping at the Charles Street Market for a fresh out of the oven Morning Glory muffin and freshly brewed medium roast coffee.  And that is just what we did this morning before wandering out into Huron Counties beautiful countryside.  To me it is just the best way to start one's day.  No work related responsibilities, toil, or stress.  When I think back to how I started many of my mornings in the old working days I shudder at the thought and give thanks to whatever forces in the Universe that those days are long behind me.  Maybe my head don't work as well as it once did but sometimes that's Okay and especially so when it can relax itself and for a few hours each morning enjoy the peace and quiet of our tranquil wanderings through the countryside…………..

Having picked up our bag of diet doggy treats and apple pie in Zurich this morning Pheebs and I were home before noon and I immediately took advantage of our sunny 65F temperature and set about cleaning some more of the Motorhome.  Black streaks removed, all outside windows cleaned except the windshield and even managed to splash a little Meguiar's Marine wax on the rig's front end.  More frogs to the big pond and even managed to get a few flowers transplanted as well.  Always a good feeling at the end the day when one feels they have accomplished something useful.

12 Things Not To Say To A Police Officer If Stopped………………..

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.
2. Sorry, officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
3. Aren't you the guy from the Village People?
4. Hey, you must've been going about 125 mph to keep up with me. Good job!
5. Are you Andy or Barney?
6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.
7. You're not going to check the trunk, are you?
8. I pay your salary!
9. Gee, officer! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!
10. Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.
11. I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around. That's how far ahead of me they are.
12. When the officer says "Gee son....Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with, "Gee officer your eyes look glazed, have you been eating donuts?"

FRUSTRATION OVER MAKING TOO MANY AGE RELATED CARELESS MISTAKES

DSC_5723

Had my fingers crossed approaching rains would not reach us over night and they didn’t so Pheebs and I had a pleasantly dry Jeep ride under cloudy skies this morning.  Clouds had enough texture to make them interesting so it wasn’t just a boring white featureless sky overhead.

With the threat of rain all afternoon it ended up being an inside day.  When Pheebs and I did head out for a walk late afternoon it started to drizzle and that was that.

DSC_5713DSC_5715

Normally by now our forests would be  burgeoning forth with Autumn colors but this year for the most part our trees still have their green summer coloring.  Pheebs and I stopped at an old gravel pit for a walk and I found a few scattered trees with a bit of color but that was about it.

INTERESTING TO SEE HOW WATER CAN MAKE IT’S WAY INTO SOME ROCKS THEN FREEZE AND SPLIT THE ROCK APART

DSC_5728

Sure is frustrating making so many mistakes all the time.  Tonight I accidentally deleted the photo album gadget I had in my right hand column and I sit here blank faced not remembering how I set that album gadget up in the first place.  Twice in the last two weeks while editing photos I accidentally hit the the ‘delete’ button instead of the ‘save’ button and had to go scrambling around in my recycle bin to dig them all back out and re-edit them again.  I seem to be getting too careless and when I make these mistakes my brain will not help me out to remember how to fix it.  It’s not that I ever was a bright technically minded person in the first place but at least my mind was a tad sharper about things not that long ago.  Just another one of those age related realities I guess………….

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A man was sitting in a bar and noticed a group of people using sign language. He also noticed that the bartender was using sign language to speak to them.  When the bartender returned to him, the man asked how he had learned to use sign language. The bartender explained that these were regular customers and had taught him to speak in sign. The man thought that was great.  A few minutes later the man noticed that the people in the group were waving their hands around very wildly. The bartender looked over and signed "Now cut that out! I warned you!" and threw the group out of the bar. The man asked why he had done that and the bartender said, "If I told them once I told them 100 times - NO SINGING IN THE BAR!"
