GETTING ORGANIZED SURE CAN BE A LOT OF WORK

DSC_6350

I think I woke up with a little extra spring in my step this morning and for sure both Kelly and I felt better about things.  Despite having to wait for another Doctor's call late next week we began the first of a million things to do before we hit the road next month.  Sometimes 'A' decision is better than 'NO' decision and our decision Tuesday to head south has helped us turn a corner.  And our Senior scurrying about today was evident of that.

Pheebs and headed into Bayfield early to set up an appointment for the Jeep's oil change and check-over next week.  We'll have our summer tires taken off and the knobbier desert snow tires put on.  We'll also have the Jeep undercoated again this year as well.  Brakes will be looked at too.

ANOTHER FINE MORNING FOR A JEEP RIDE THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE

DSC_6300DSC_6308DSC_6312

DSC_6297Motoring southeast out of town we graveled our way along dried country roads enjoying the beautiful Autumn morning.  Sunny skies, warmer temperatures and no wind.  Our travels took us through a few roadside forests where we absorbed the wondrous aroma of Autumn.  Our morning travels didn't take us any further than 10 miles from Bayfield and we were back home about 11.

Kelly busied herself sorting through a bunch of things while I opened a can of paint and finished up painting trim on our newly roofed shed.  Mike the plumber guy rolled in to do some work under our unit in preparation for the coming winter.  I hauled a utility trailer load of yard waste to our Park's recycle area.  I also put the hitch back on the Motorhome.  That darn hitch assembly seems to get heavier and more unwieldy every year and it caused me to again turn the air blue a couple times.

One of the great advantages a Full-Timer has over a Snow-Bird is the fact they do not have to go through the major packing and unpacking of their RV's twice a year.  It is the painstaking task of loading up for prolonged winter travels that is always the hardest by far and we are in the early stages of that now.  Like the Motorhome's heavy hitch the loading and preparation seems to somehow grow harder each year as well.  I guess we're just feeling our age.

We are thinking this may very well be our last RVing year to the great American Southwest and next Autumn we may be thinking of a month long sojourn to Canada's east coast for the month of September maybe.  When we first hit the RV road back in the Autumn of 2006 I thought perhaps we might be lucky enough to have maybe 5 years of travel and here we are entering our 12th.  We have been so very fortunate to have seen and done all the things we have.  No regrets.

We sure are enjoying our larger LG 55" HDTV and especially so since we have now added some new channels in an effort to get away from all the TV trash channels.  My favorite addition is the Smithsonian channel and oh how marvelous all those great nature programs.  BBC Earth is another favorite as is National Geographic.  I enjoy being educated while being entertained.   AHC (American Heroes Channel) another good one and I like the music oriented programs on AXS-TV.  A lot of music history here along with a series of interviews by Dan Rather with musical icons and legends.  It seems an odd mix when you think of Dan Rather interviewing artists like Neil Young, The Doobie Brothers, Peter Frampton, Greg Allman, Sammy Hagar, Steven Van Zandt, Geddy Lee, Gene Simmons, Roger Waters, Kid Rock, Billie Gibbons, Carlos Santana, plus a bunch of others.  Rather has a knack of bringing out the real person behind the stage personality we are all used to seeing.  I have read some great biographies of music personalities and what goes on on stage and what really goes on behind the scenes are often two totally different things.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  Margie received a bill from the hospital for her recent surgery, and was astonished to see a $1200 fee for the anesthesiologist. She called his office to demand an explanation. "Is this some kind of mistake?" Margie asked when she got the doctor on the phone.  "No, not at all," the doctor said calmly.  "Well," said Margie, "that's awfully costly for knocking someone out."  "Not at all," replied the doctor. "I knock you out for free. The 1200 dollars is for bringing you back around."

There was a tradesman, a painter named Jack, who was very interested in making a dollar where he could. So he often would thin down his paint to make it go a wee bit further. As it happened, he got away with this for some time. Eventually the local church decided to do a big restoration project. Jack put in a painting bid and, because his price was so competitive, he got the job. And so he started, erecting the trestles and putting up the planks, and buying the paint and thinning it down with turpentine.  Jack was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly done, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder. The sky opened and the rain poured down, washing the thin paint from all over the church and knocking Jack off the scaffold to land on the lawn.  Jack was no fool. He knew this was a judgment from the Almighty, so he fell on his knees and cried, "Oh, God! Forgive me! What should I do?"   And from the thunder, a mighty Voice spoke, "Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!"

KELLY’S DOCTOR FINALLY PHONED AND WE’VE MADE A DECISION

DSC_6250

SELFIE REFLECTION IN THE JEEP’S SIDE WINDOW

Kelly brought so many vitamins home from the health store today I almost needed the wheelbarrow to bring them all in.  So here’s what we got, RX Omega-3 900mg Fish Oil, Ascorbate C 500mg, Magsnesium 200mg, Vitamin D3 1000 IU, Complexe B, and B12 Methylcobalamine 5000 mcg.  And Kelly did stress these are all from a knowledgeable health store and not Walmart.  Figured all them pills weren’t doin no good just sitting in the bottles so I tested a few of them and took off like a rocket:))

FOR OBVIOUS REASONS THERE WERE NO FISHERMEN ON BAYFIELD’S PIER THIS MORNING

DSC_6203DSC_6204

Woke up feeling better about things this morning and it wasn’t long before I had my Mojo working again.  Under clear blue skies Pheebs and I rolled through Bayfield and headed south out into the countryside.  Even stopped to wash the Jeep at Bayfield’s car wash.   We cruised around for a couple hours stopping here and there for a few leg stretches and photos.  Just another great Autumn day to be outside.  Think we got up to just over 60F which is mighty fine with me.  Much healthier and invigorating air than that miserably inhibiting hot summer stuff!!

Cool winds up from the south today were much nicer than Monday’s icy north winds.  If we held it down to 20 mph Pheebs and I could cruise along with the front windows down and the heater on half blast.  Groovy.

We were home shortly after 11 and I immediately busied myself with my ‘to do’ lists.  More windows washed as well and two more Frogs moved to the bigger Park pond.   Home from Goderich around 1 Kelly checked the phone in case any important calls had tried to come in.  None had.  ‘HOWEVER’……..at 4:18 this afternoon our phone rang!!

NOPE WE JUST DON’T HAVE THE ABUNDANCE OF BEAUTIFUL AUTUMN COLORS THIS YEAR:((

The call we had been anxiously waiting for was now at hand and it was Kelly’s London Doctor.  Right off there seemed to be some confusion.  Doctor said he hadn’t submitted the scan to the board yet and told Kelly he’s looked over the scan and told her not to worry but to call him at the end of next week.  We had been led to believe the scan had been reviewed by the tumor board last Tuesday.  So all this time we have been worrying and waiting for the results from this board when in fact her scan had not even been submitted yet.  When Kelly got off the phone she said, “well that’s enough of that and I think we should just plan on heading South like we normally do”.  We talked it over a bit and decided that is exactly what we will do.  We’re not going to sit around in a big apprehensive fog of indecision for another week.  We’ll go ahead and start our travel preparations and if at the end of next week when she talks to her Doctor again there is a change then we’ll just deal with it at that time.  We always leave on a Saturday so I’d like to see us on the road November 11th depending on weather of course.  Like March, November’s weather here can turn on a dime and I do not want to be dealing with ice and snow on salt infested roads and interstates!!

THIS OLD TIMER HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS

It’s been a very emotionally worrisome few weeks for us and especially Kelly.  I don’t think we’re out of the woods on this yet but with her Doctor telling her not to worry about it Kelly said that is just what she is going to do, ‘not worry about it’.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A man suffered a heart attack and had by-pass surgery. He awakened to find himself in the care of nuns at a Catholic hospital.   As he was recovering, a nun asked him how he was going to pay the bill.  He replied in a raspy voice, "No health insurance."  The nun asked if he has money in the bank.  He replied "No money in the bank."  The nun asked " Do you have a relative who could help you?"  He said "Just a spinster sister who is a nun."  The nun, slightly perturbed, said "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God."  The patient replied, "Then send the bill to my brother-in-law!"

During an auction of exotic pets, a woman who had placed a winning bid told the auctioneer, "I'm paying a fortune for that parrot. I hope he talks as well as you say he does."  "I guarantee it, madam," replied the auctioneer. "Who do you think was bidding against you?"
