NOT MUCH TO WRITE ABOUT

With not much to write about today, I didn't get around to writing about much.

A HARVESTED WHEAT FIELD AWAITS THE BALING MACHINE
I THINK THIS MIGHT BE SOME KIND OF  A HAYRAKE MACHINE
TURKEY VULTURES

ROADSIDE WILDFLOWERS
GROANER'S CORNER:(( It was my wedding day, and no one was happier than my 78-year-old mother.  But as she approached the church doors, an usher asked, “Which side are you on?”  “Oh, no,” she said. “Are they fighting already?”

I WILL FORWARD THE SAME RECOMMENDATION ON TO YOU

HAY WAGONS LOADED WITH LARGE BALES OF HAY
I looked at the clock.  It was 2:39 p.m. and I had just finished reading the last words of Atul Gawande's book, Being Mortal: Medicine and what Matters in the End.  The subject matter at times relates to other things I have been reading about this past year and a half with this book bringing it all down to a grounded human level of understanding.  It's a sobering book with harsh realities yet enlightening in an interesting and educational way.  This is not a book I would have read a number of years ago and yet at this age and stage of life, I can't imagine not reading it.  Thanks to the people who recommended this book to me, and with that, I will forward the same recommendation on to you.

SUNDAY MORNING WALK TO THE BARN WITH DAD AND THE BOYS
 AND THE FAMILY POOCH TOO
LARGE RECTANGLE BALES OF STRAW FROM THE WHEAT HARVEST
Another in a series of beautiful summer mornings saw Pheebs and I out walking our country road earlier today.  With the day's eventual build-up of heat and humidity, it was another day spent in the cool confines of our house.  And that was quite okay with me.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large number of goods totaling a great deal of money. The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn’t been paid, so he asked his collections manager to leave a voice mail for them saying, “We can’t ship your new order until you pay for the last one.” The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call, “Please cancel the order. We can’t wait that long.”

HANGING OUT WITH A FEW OF MY PALS TODAY

 HANGING OUT WITH MY PALS:))
Not enough energy for a walk this morning but Pheebs and I did get in a short drive around a few country blocks.  She's not always too keen for a walk anymore and shorter Jeep rides seem increasingly favorable to her.  It has become sadly obvious to me that both Pheebs and I are slowly aging together.

A SATURDAY MORNING GATHERING OF FARM MACHINERY

A RIPENING CORNFIELD UNDER MID-SUMMER'S SUN AND CLOUD
It was cool enough to be outside doing some yard work but I spent a chunk of my time inside trying to recharge my batteries.  That of course required a few sessions of reading and snoozing.  I must have left something switched on in my head all night again and that wore down my internal batteries and left me drained this morning.  It's about as close to a logical explanation as I can come up with.  However, I did manage to rally this afternoon long enough to spend some fun (hey, there's a word I don't use much) time in our front yard hanging around with a few good buddies of mine.

 'I TOT I TAA A TWEETY BIRD'
 'I DID I DID'

I RESCUED THIS LITTLE FELLOW FROM THE GROUND  ON THE MAIN STREET OF JULIAN CALIFORNIA ONE DAY HALF A DOZEN YEARS AGO
In Friday's post, I had a photo of a Wizard which I took beside our frog pond.  Carin in the Shoutbox wondered if we owned that figurine and how tall it was.  Made at Windstone Editions in North Hollywood California, I can't remember where or when we got it but Kelly tells me I had it when she met me 29 years ago.  It's quite heavy, seven inches tall, and I may add, very well made.
 THE WINDSTONE WIZARD

'EEEEEHHHHHH' DA GREEN FONZ'
 'HEY DOWN THERE PHEEBS'
'HEY UP THERE TWEETS'
So, what have I been listening to on my Sirius XM satellite radio these days while Pheebs and I cruise the country roads?  At the moment I'm mainly waffling back and forth between the '40's Junction' station and 'Sinatra'.  The Junction is mainly all music from the 1940s.  The Big Band music reminds me of my very early childhood and I like that.  Like the Sinatra channel with its tunes from the 40s and 50s, I find the music comforting.  However, I really wish Sirius would have a groovy selection of funky ambient music channels but they don't.  Just some creatively inventive heavy bass-oriented instrumentals please.....and no words!!

GROANER'S CORNER:(( "I suppose you carry a memento of some sort in that locket of yours?"  Woman: "Yes, it's a lock of my husband's hair."  Friend: "But your husband is still alive."  Woman: "I know, but his hair is gone."

Q: Why did the queen bee kick out all of the other bees?

A: Because they kept droning on and on!

Q: What do you call a bee born in May?

A: A maybe!

Q: What kind of bee can't be understood?

A: A mumble bee!

ANOTHER SOMETIMES

PHEEBS KEEPS A CLOSE EYE ON A POND FROG
Sometimes it's the warmth of the sun on a chilly morn and sometimes it's the touch of a cool breeze.  Sometimes it's the sound of cornstalks rustling in the wind and sometimes it's the smell of country in the air.  Sometimes it's all of them and sometimes it's none, but whatever it is, it's yet another day to put another foot forward and become as one with another day.

THE POND FROG KEEPS A CLOSE EYE ON PHEEBS

 HOSTA BLOOMS
WITH A TOUCH OF BLUE FROM A NIGHT LIGHT, A NARROW SHAFT OF EVENING SUNLIGHT ALIGHTS ON A WHITE HYDRANGEA
After our morning country road walk, I had a short window of opportunity to get a few outside things done at home before the heat and humidity set in for the day.  Whacked some weeds and mowed some grass while Kelly headed off to Goderich for some blood work and groceries.
And that pretty much wraps up another day for us guys here at, The Bayfield Bunch:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Golfing Realities...

- Golf balls are like eggs. They're white, they're sold by the dozen, and every week you have to buy more.
- A pro-shop gets its name from the fact that you have to have the income of a professional golfer to buy anything in there.
- It's amazing how a golfer who never helps out around the house will replace his divots, repair his ball marks, and rake his sand traps.
- When you stop to think about it, did you ever notice that it's a lot easier to get up at 6:00 a.m. to play golf than at 10:00 a.m. to mow the lawn?
- It takes longer to learn good golf than it does brain surgery. On the other hand, you seldom get to ride around on a cart, drink beer and eat hot dogs while performing brain surgery.
- A good drive on the 18th hole has stopped many a golfer from giving up the game.
- Golf is the perfect thing to do on Sunday because you always end up praying a lot anyway.
- A good golf partner is one who's always slightly worse than you.
- That rake by the sand trap is there for golfers who feel guilty about skipping out on lawn work.
- If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven, he probably shot an eight.

Judge: Is there any reason you could not serve as a juror in this case?  Juror: I don't want to be away from my job that long.  Judge: Can't they do without you at work?  Juror: Yes, but I don't want them to know it.
