PHEEBS GOES TO THE GROOMERS AND ANOTHER POWER OUTAGE

DESPITE SETBACKS IT IS BEGINNING TO LOOK MORE LIKE SPRING WITH EACH PASSING DAY
Well, it happened again!!  For the second time in just a few days our power went off sometime during the night and we woke up to a colder house than what we are accustomed to.  No idea when it went off or why.  Strong gusting winds had brought rain in the night and we suspect that wind of bringing trees and branches down across power lines somewhere.  Possibly trees that had been weakened by big winds a few days ago.  All the power lines in our Park are underground so the power problems keep occurring outside our Park where power lines are above ground and vulnerable to the elements.  Our power was finally restored around 8:45 a.m.

Needless to say, I hopped into the Jeep again and headed for Bayfield's southend Tim Hortons coffee shop.  One large and one small coffee to go plus 3 donuts of which Kelly ate two.  Following that, Pheebs and I headed out under rainy gray skies to see if we could find a few photos.  We did, but only a few.

WHEN I TOOK THIS PICTURE I DIDN'T SEE THE ROBIN IN THE FOREGROUND UNTIL I LATER EDITED THE PHOTO
LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF WORK HAS GONE INTO THIS RURAL STONE WALL
I recently finished two more books and have started on a third.  I spotted The Berry Pickers by author Amanda Peters had a greatly reduced price so I grabbed it.  I had spotted it a week or so ago on Jana's blog, Restoration Cowboy Style and decided to give it a whirl.  I enjoyed the book.  Next, was a short book called A Long Walk To Water based on a True Story by author Linda Sue Park.  I enjoyed this eye-opener as well.  I have just presently begun An Island At War by author Deborah Carr.  This is a historical Novel about the Island of Jersey in the English Channel and its people's struggle with the German occupation during  World War 2.  It's good to have books to read on these cold and damp rainy days.  Books have played a very important role in getting me through these past four winters as well since we haven't been able to travel to the Southwest in the winter season.

Our dog groomer in Clinton Ontario had an opening at two o'clock this afternoon so we hustled Pheebs in for her annual Spring spiffy-up.  She handled it well and is looking and smelling all schnazzy-boo again.  Well, except for her breath which could easily knock down an Elephant.  However, she doesn't know her breath is bad so she's as happy as a Lark. (we had her teeth checked out a week before Christmas and her teeth were fine)

WHILE PHEEBS WAS AT THE GROOMERS, KELLY AND I SLIPPED OUT TO KATE'S STATION FOR A BITE TO EAT....I AGAIN WAS STAGGERED BY THE PRICES SO I HAD A BLT AND KELLY HAD A BOWL OF POTATO BACON SOUP
CONSIDERING WHAT THIS COST I SIT HERE STUNNED WONDERING WHERE THE REST OF IT IS
FRESH OUT OF THE GROOMERS AND IN THE CAR, PHEEBS IS LOOKING FOR A BACON SNACK I LEFT FOR HER

It's Not For Me To Say
is a 1957 popular song with music by Robert Allen and lyrics by Al Stillman.   It was written for the 1957 movie Lizzie 1957 (starring Eleanor Parker), and was sung by Johnny Mathis in the film.  Mathis' recording of the song, arranged by Ray Conniff, was the most successful version, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A fellow’s wife was very worried about her husband’s heavy drinking and one night she decided to give him a fright. She draped herself in a white sheet and went down to the local cemetery, knowing that her husband was in the habit of taking a shortcut through it on his way home from the pub. It was not long before he came staggering along, and out she jumped from behind a headstone.  “Ooooooo!” she wailed, “I am the devil!”  Her husband sticks out his hand. “Put it there, pal,” he says, “I’m married to your sister.”

- If you are sitting in public and a stranger takes the seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say, "Did you bring the money?"

WISHED I COULD THINK OF SOMETHING INTERESTING TO WRITE ABOUT

After publishing last night's post, I did something on the spur of the moment that I had not done for maybe a decade or more.  I walked out to our carport, hopped onto Kelly's bicycle and took myself for a ride around a couple blocks here in our Bayfield Pines Park.  I was a bit wobbly heading out our driveway but one never really forgets how to ride a bicycle and I was no exception.  It sure felt good for my legs leaving them a little rubbery when I returned to the house.

After a Jeep ride into Bayfield and back for the furry Kid and I this morning I hitched up the utility trailer, loaded up my piles of yard waste, and dumped the load at our Park's recycle area.  All went well under clear blue sunny skies.  Following that, I knew enough to head back into the house and put my feet up to give my hip a rest.  If I do things in moderation I will be okay.  Wished I could think of something interesting to write about for a change............

A DRIVE THROUGH BAYFIELD

Al's Music Box:(( Telegraph Road (this song is a slow starter so give it time to build.....and it is 14 minutes long) "Telegraph Road" is a song by British rock band Dire Straits, written by Mark Knopfler. It is the opening track on the 1982 album Love over Gold.   While it received limited airplay due to its 14-minute length, it has become one of the band's most beloved songs.   Telegraph Road is a major north-south 70-mile (110 km) thoroughfare in Michigan, and Mark Knopfler was inspired to write the song while riding in the front of the tour bus, which made the journey down Telegraph Road. At the same time, Knopfler was reading the novel Growth of the Soil by the Nobel Prize-winning Norwegian author Knut Hamsun and he was inspired to put the two together and write a song about the beginning of the development along Telegraph Road and the changes over the ensuing decades.  In a contemporary review for Rolling Stone magazine, David Fricke praised "Telegraph Road", and he characterized as a "challenge to the average pop fan's attention span" with its "historic sweep and intimate tension."; it is overall considered as one of the band's best songs if not outright their absolute masterpiece.  Loudersound.com ranks "Telegraph Road" 6th among Dire Straits' best songs, while Return of Rock ranks it 5th, describing it as "A fourteen-minute masterpiece worth every second of its length, which it deserves to be on the list of the best long-form songs and progressive rock songs."

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A football coach was asked about his star lineman.  The coach replied, "He doesn't know the meaning of the word fear. In fact, I have seen his grades and there are a lot of words he doesn't know the meaning of!"

A Nod to the International Day of Older Persons!

An old woman is sitting at a bar when an older gentleman sits down beside her.  "So," he says, "Do I come here often?"

- What is a prize old people can win for aging?  Atrophy.

- I used to know a couple who grew fruit trees together.  - They lived to a ripe old age.

- What’s the best part of old age?  That it doesn’t last very long.

- These are not gray hairs! They are
wisdom highlights.

- Which underwear brand do seniors love best?  - It Depends.

- What’s the secret to having a smoking hot body as a senior?  Cremation.

- Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don’t mind getting older, then it really doesn’t matter.

- How is the moon like dentures?  Both come out at night.

- Now that I’ve gotten older, everything’s finally starting to click for me.  My knees, my back, my neck …

- Of all your children, the only one who won’t grow up and move away is your husband.
