WHETHER WE UNDERSTAND IT OR NOT

OUR STREET HERE IN THE PARK IS CALLED SUGAR MAPLE AND IS APTLY NAMED
Using some sound logic, I figure these back-to-back rainy days are payback for our previous back-to-back sunny days.  Yup, that's what it's got to be alright!!  Or, d'ya suppose it's got something to do with the current change of seasons.  Oh well, despite the rainy drizzle, I hooked up the utility trailer and hauled another partial wet load of pine needles, tree branches, and fallen leaves off to the Park's recycling area.  It turned out to be a bit of muddy business.  But, no problem.  With our outside water still turned on, I was able to hose myself and the car off after I returned home.

A FEW PHOTOS ALONG OUR STREET EARLIER TODAY
OUR DRIVEWAY IS JUST UP THERE ON THE LEFT
With a poor night's sleep, Woodsy was feeling a little under the weather today.  Aww shucks, there I go mentioning the 'weather' word again!!  Oh yes, proud to be a Canadian eh:))

THIS MIGHT BE A TUFTED TITMOUSE
I have totally given up on  all the dog rescue sites.  It is clear to me that my age is against me.  A friend of a friend of mine, talking to some animal people, said it's unlikely the rescue sites will let a dog go to a single person of my age with a very limited future.  I can understand the sites rightfully having the dog's welfare and best interest at heart.  They don't want the re-homed dog having to go through the trauma of having to be re-homed again.  So disappointing and disheartening.  Years ago, we bought Max as a puppy for $5.  Little Cora came to us from Kelly's daughter Sabra, and Kelly brought Checkers home one day from the place where she worked at the time.  And, it was the Zurich Vet Clinic that phoned and told us of a dog in Zurich that needed a new home back in August of 2011.  That dog was of course, was Pheebs.  I do have my name in at Zurich's South Huron Veterinary Clinic in case they have any strays come in, and I did call them today to make sure they still have my name and number.  They do.

It is not always easy trying to remain focused on the present when so much has already happened in the past to remind us of who we are and how we got to where we are today.  We often complain about things we can't remember any longer and yet there is an upside to that.  If we were constantly flooded with good and bad memories of the past, it would be difficult for us to function well in the present.  And, I think that is a built-in safeguard for all of us, whether we understand it or not.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A little girl said, "Grandpa, can I sit on your lap? "Why sure you can," her grandfather replied. As she sat on her grandfather's lap she said, "Grandpa, can you make a sound like a frog?" "A sound like a frog? Well, sure Grandpa can make a sound like a frog." The little girl said, "Grandpa, will you please, please make a sound like a frog?" Perplexed, her grandfather said, "Sweetheart, why do you want me to make a sound like a frog?" And the little girl said, "Because Grandma said that when you croak, we're going to Florida!"

"Are you writing a thank-you letter to Grandma like I told you to?" "Yes, Mom." "Your handwriting seems very large, why is that?" "Well, Grandma can't hear well, so I'm writing very loudly."

  1. Omigosh. There are literally hundreds…no thousands of wonderful doggies in Humane societies needing homes. Dog rescues sometimes go there to help find digs needing homes. I hope you can locate a special dog just for you.

  2. Thanks for making me feel better, although I do wish we could choose which unwanted memories to block.

    Be well. And, write on!

  3. Isn't there a facility that specializes placing senior dogs? We have some here and they especially seek seniors to adopt senior dogs. What about placing some ads in local papers for a senior dog? You really need one especially with the long winter approaching.

  4. I'm with you Al. I lost my best friend B.K. (Barn Kat) two years ago. Mountain Lion or Coyote, after making it six years..Anyways the Seattle News showed the State Patrol rescuing a Kitty from the middle of the Freeway.
I take old blankets-towels-etc to my local Humane society just thinking about my pal.
I was close to giving a poor kitty a new home, but the thought of He-Her lasting longer than me has talked myself out of it..
I'll just keep supporting our local folks who take care of our furry friends..
Dang-it...Our pals are a sure cure for being lonely, both of us..(The Furry-er Ones)
    Stay safe!

  5. "I think that is a built-in safeguard". I agree. I think that's why after almost 20 years I've never had a dream of my husband after he died. I don't think I could take it. Thanks so much for your colorful pictures. Really appreciate you doing it for us folks who don't get fall's fantastic foliage.

  6. I think "rescues" are often a scam. Maybe forget the middleman & go straight to the people who have an unexpected litter of puppies or someone who is moving or just for some reason can no longer afford to keep their doggie. Try facebook or local paper or do you have Craigslist in Canada.? Sometimes grocery stores or laundromat have bulletin boards with all kinds of ads posted. Don't give up, Al. Your special dog is somewhere waiting for you to find them. Best Wishes.

  7. PS - or maybe YOU can post a little ad on some bulletin boards.? Think out of the box & get creative. Good Luck.

  8. Al, I found this statement uplifting: "If we were constantly flooded with good and bad memories of the past, it would be difficult for us to function well in the present." Your ability to see good in bad, positivity in a negative situation, is poignant. Absolutely loved--as always--your photos tonight. The colours are stunning. And how nice to see Pheebs grace your page again. She was such a lucky little girl... to have found your warm and loving home.

  9. It's surprising how many pet owners do NOT have a plan if they should pass before their pets. I live in a retirement community in Arizona and it's sad how many dogs are dumped at the shelter because the owner had no plan for their care, Maybe they assumed the adult children would take them? Wrong. Perhaps if you have a plan, the rescue would be more open.
Most PetSmarts and other pet stores have a bulletin board where people post pets available. Often times people move and the new landlord doesn't allow pet. Or try Facebook, Craigslist, or local newspaper. Good Luck!

  10. You certainly found some great fall colour to photograph. I think your challenges in getting a new pup illustrate a problem in the system. While agencies may not want a dog to have to be rehomed twice, they ignore the enormous therapeutic benefit of dogs to older folk like you. I know of at least three people on our street, all over 80, who have recently found new dogs.
