ANOTHER FOREST WALK, ANOTHER TUMBLE, AND WE HAVE A DATE SET FOR THE MOTORHOME’S NEW TAIL PIPES

DSC_6743

With cooler morning temps still with us I knew the squadrons of Mosquito biters would again be grounded making the way clear for another forest walk.

A PATCH OF LILIES IN BLOOM ALONGSIDE THE ROAD

With a de-calf coffee in hand Pheebs and I made our way over to the Hullett Marsh northeast of Clinton.  Patchy clouds kept things from warming up and I was glad I had my jacket along.  We did a forest walk at the north end of the marsh last year and this morning we did the same trail again.

WINDS HAVE TAKEN A FEW TREES DOWN BUT HULLETT CREWS HAVE ALREADY CLEANED THEM UP

NICE TO SEE THEY HAVE USED A COUPLE SECTIONS OF A DOWNED TREE TO MAKE A COUPLE SITTING STOOLS AND THE TREE MARKER TELLS US THE TRAIL IS STRAIGHT AHEAD

MUDDY PAWS??  WHAT MUDDY PAWS!!

Knowing things sometimes happen in threes and knowing I had taken two tumbles over the past couple months I knew I was probably due for a third.  It was just a case of when and where.  Well thankfully I got that third pending tumble out of the way this morning.  I had stepped off the trail to take a photo and when I turned around to step back on the trail my left foot hooked a branch on the ground and down I went clutching my camera tight to my body.  Compared to my other two wrenching tumbles this one was a breeze.  Ended up on my back looking straight up through the forest canopy.  With no immediate sore spots or damage being done I checked my camera then took a photo straight up through the tree canopy before assisting myself to my feet.  Not even a mud smudge on my blue jeans.  However, any time a feller gets his hat knocked off it has be considered as very serious!!  The first two preventable falls were purely my fault by being careless while the one this morning was simply an accident.  It is very rare for me to ever lose my balance and take a fall but I figure now that I have the magic number of 3 tumbles in short order under my belt I’m good to go for at least the next decade tumble free.  However after taking a few steps I did notice the branch had un-done my left shoelace so as soon as I checked my ‘How To Tie Your Shoes’ manual I was up and walking again.  I do carry a number of ‘How To’ manuals with me nowadays you know:))

WE EXIT THE FOREST ONTO A WIDE MOWN PATH INTO A MEADOW

Shadowy forests are magical places and so it was this morning as we followed the trail’s tree markers through the center of the woods and out the other side.  Always something special in a quiet forest hearing twittering's of un-seen birds in the tall tree tops and their brief flitterings along the very forest floor itself.

NICE TO HAVE A WIDE MOWN TRAIL AND I HAVE A FEELING SOMETHING IS LIVING IN BIRD BOX # 94

The well widened trail led out into a large meadow where it diverged in several directions.  We picked the one heading back in the direction of the Jeep and next time out this way we’ll try one of the other side trails heading towards one of the Marshes many ponds.

We still have to get a couple new tail pipes put on the Motorhome and I knew of a farm north of the Marsh called ‘Twisted Pipes’ where a fella specialized in mufflers so off we went.  Stopped in and talked to the guy but he didn’t have a pit or heavy duty hoist big enough to lift the weight of a Motorhome.  Nice chap and he recommended a place in Clinton which immediately reminded me again of a garage that had put a couple tail pipes on our Class C Damon Challenger about 8 years ago.  Without further ado we headed back through Clinton and stopped into that garage and sure enough they said they can do that June 25th.  Always nice to get things stroked off one’s ‘to-do’ list………….

JUST LIKE OLDER FOLKS AGING BARNS SOMETIMES NEED SOME NEW PARTS AS WELL

Readers may have noticed in my writings how I sometimes bend my English grammar and I'm sure there are some teacher types out there who have probably thought of sending me an email to let me know just how much badder it sometimes is.  Maybe even the most baddest sometimes.  Not to worry folks I gots a handle on it and I do it on purpose.  I have a reasonable grasp on proper grammar basics and for that reason I like to just mess it up on purpose and make it the very much most worsest it can be sometimes.  I once had a lady email me about all the commas I was using in my writings and I did think about it and did take that piece of advice to heart and cut my commas in half.  I’ve always found it kinda fun to play with words and writing a daily blog sure gives me the opportunity to expound on that fun occasionally.  So now ya knows:))

SO WHADD’YA THINK…..BEST OF PALS OR A LITTLE BIT OF HANKY PANKY GOING ON HERE

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A man is going skydiving for the first time. After listening to the instructor for what seems like days, he is ready to go.  The man goes up in the airplane and waits to get to the proper altitude. Excited, he jumps out of the airplane. After a bit, he pulls the ripcord. Nothing happens. He tries again. Still nothing. He starts to panic, but remembers his back-up chute. He pulls that cord. Nothing happens. He frantically begins pulling both cords, but to no avail.  Suddenly, he looks down and he can't believe his eyes. Another man is in the air with him, but this guy is coming up! Just as the other guy passes by, the skydiver, by this time scared out of his wits, yells, "Hey, do you know anything about skydiving?" The other guy yells back, "No! Do you know anything about gas stoves?"

  1. Nothing wrong with "waking up, looking up", because you are waking up! Glad your tumble did no harm to you or your camera. I have a few times taking a tumble, holding a camera or a fly rod up high. These days, I might not be so willing to sac the body.
