Monday:: Our day-and-a-half deluge of rain finally ended, and Monday dawned with sunshine pouring through the Park's pine trees, alighting on our living room floor, and cheering up my spirits. Temps rose into the low 60s, and I didn't waste any time heading out the door. The hard rains had brought down more pine needles and leaves, so I was busy with the cleanup.

Woodsy rolled in about mid-morning, and it wasn't long before we were off to Goderich for some groceries, etc. What a gorgeous weather day for late October.

Leaving Walmart, we traveled a short distance east to Goderich's Maitland Cemetery, where, at the north end of the cemetery, there is a trailhead leading to a number of trails. Pheebs and I would sometimes come here for a walk in the woods. There is a scenic point along one of the trails, and it's a great place to view Autumn's forest colors on the other side of the Maitland River. So, off Lorraine and I went for a nice afternoon walk.

Tuesday: Rain returned in the night and thwarted our plans to E-bike the Maitland Trail north of Goderich this morning. Oh well, better Autumn weather days ahead, we hope. With the ground saturated with water, I figured it would be a good time to dig out and relocate a number of bush ferns that have increasingly been growing up all over the place, and especially on my garden pathways. Out the door, grabbed my shovel and dig, dig, dig. Of course, along with those digs came the accompanying grunts, grunts, grunts. I hear tell that is what we Seniors do. Thankfully, the rain clouds began to ease up late by morning, I'll take this kind of weather for working outside any day compared to that hot and sticky humid summer stuff!!

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A sweet little boy surprised his grandmother one morning and brought her a cup of coffee. He made it himself, and he was so proud. Anxiously, he waited to hear the verdict. The grandmother in all her life had never had such a bad cup of coffee. As she forced down the last sip, his grandmother noticed three of those little green army guys were in the bottom of the cup. She asked, "Honey, why would three of your little army men be in the bottom of my cup?" Her grandson replied, "You know grandma, it's like on TV. 'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup'."--------------------------------------

One of the funniest memories I have of the trials and tribulations of making the journey from childhood to adulthood was our annual summer vacation trek from Chicago to a cabin usually someplace on a lake in Wisconsin or Michigan. Every year, it seems, we would get on a highway a few miles out of the city, and mom would wail, “Oh my goodness! I think left the iron on.” And almost every year we would turn around and go back. But as I recall, not once was it was ever plugged in. She often had the same fear that all our earthly possessions would disappear in a fire caused by her forgetfulness. When I was about 14 years old, we were headed out of Chicago for Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and, sure enough, Mom gasped, “I just know I left the iron on.” My father didn't say a word, just pulled over onto the shoulder of the road, got out, opened the trunk and handed her the iron.
