Well, I figured I had been doing pretty good this past week or so by not starting any of my posts off with the weather. However, after a full day of rain and freezing rain on Sunday, and a full-on snowstorm slamming into us today, I feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention something about the weather. Holy smokes, are we ever getting hammered. First, to have ventured outside on Thursday would have been foolhardy because everything was covered in a sheet of ice, and I'm sure many who did ended up at Hospital Emergency wards with broken bones. When I woke up this morning at 7:15, the temperature was 45F., and less than two hours later, the temperature had dropped to below freezing and continued down to 21F by late afternoon and was still dropping. It's known as a 'flash freeze'. The impending snowstorm that one weather forecast was calling a 'cyclone bomb' hit us about 8:30 a.m. and continued for the rest of the day, with many road closures and accidents being reported. With the tall pine trees twisting and bending in the high wind, we even had continuous rare whiteouts in our sheltered Park. At times, we couldn't even see across the road to our neighbor's house. For the second day in a row, we remained housebound, and I only ventured out a couple of times to stock up the bird feeders. Lorraine did venture out later to see how our neighbor Monica was doing. Why we haven't lost power yet is nothing short of a miracle. And, I think this storm is maybe expected to continue for a few days.
Al's Music Box:: Stranger On The Shore by Acker Bilk.GROANER'S CORNER:(( A Canadian preacher was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to play. ‘Here's a copy of the service,' he said impatiently. ‘But, you'll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances.' During the service, the minister paused and said, ‘Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up.' At that moment, the substitute organist played, *'O Canada.' And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!

A rookie police officer was out for his first ride in a cruiser with an experienced partner. A call came in telling them to disperse some people who were loitering. The officers drove to the street and observed a small crowd standing on a corner. The rookie rolled down his window and said, "Let's get off the corner, people." A few glances, but no one moved, so he barked again, "Let's get off that corner...NOW!" Intimidated, the group of people began to leave, casting puzzled stares in his direction. Proud of his first official act, the young policeman turned to his partner and asked, "Well, how did I do?" "Pretty good," chuckled the veteran policeman, "especially since this is a bus stop!"

A Hindu devotee asked God, represented by the multi-armed Lord Narayana, this question. "My dear Lord," he said. "I understand that you have innumerable inconceivable potencies. But out of all of them, the energy of light seems to be the most amazing. Light pervades the spiritual world; it illuminates the material universes, and life is impossible without it." He continued, "I would like to know how you make it work." "Oh, that's easy," was the reply. "Many hands make light work."

Oh, isn't it wonderful when...finally...you find a tech person with whom you "click" and they can solve the problem. Other tech support people probably don't understand and that's half the problem; they don't really listen. Good re the Kindle!
ReplyDeleteOh that weather!!!! and all that ice is now UNDER all that snow, making it uber dangerous. Let's hope your arctic outbreak is over soon. We in Okanagan BC had 3 days of -11 and -12...it was awful. But not much snow...a couple of inches. And by Wednesday we should hit zero, thankfully. At least the days are getting longer. Yay!
Glad you still have power at home. That's a big one unless you have alternate heat. Great photos. Oh, your groaners make me groan, and smile. :-)
