NO STORM DAMAGE IN OUR AREA

A FEW PHOTOS FROM AROUND THE GODERICH AIRPORT A COUPLE DAYS AGO…..THIS IS ALSO THE HOME OF SKY HARBOUR AIRCRAFT

We had ourselves an overcast and pleasantly cooler 66F day.  So nice to be rid of that miserable humidity.  We haven't heard of Wednesday night's storms leaving any damage behind in our area although it was reported a twister was spotted south of Bayfield.  I think the storms may have intensified as they moved inland because the local news channels reported trees and power lines down about 60 to a 100 miles east of us.  I had just said in Tuesday's blog that Tornado's are rare in these parts & here we had tornado weather twice in 4 days.

Didn't make it up to  GODERICH yet but I'm kind of thinking Friday or Saturday morning.  Far as I know the downtown is still sealed off.  Queen Elizabeth once called called Goderich the prettiest town in Canada.  I wonder what she would think of it now….

Once again, for anyone interested in what's happening in the daily night sky, I find this site at EARTHSKY a straight forward & easy to understand site.  Today it features another one of my favourite constellations, Orion The Hunter.  Orion, now visible in the pre-dawn Southeastern sky will soon be visible in the night sky all winter as it slowly travels east to west along the southern hemisphere.  If you have a good set of binoculars try finding the cluster of stars just below Orion's belt knows as the Orion Nebula which is also visible if you have good vision.

Finally figured out why my blog would not publish Wednesday night.  I had added, 'Tornado Warnings.....!!' in my 'Category' section,   Apparently Blogger would not accept the exclamation marks & series of periods.  Try as I may I could not delete the mistake so I tried 'copy & pasting' the whole post into a new Live Writer draft & that worked.   Just something to keep in mind if your adding categories to your posts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT’S STORM CAST AN EERIE GLOW

Nice psychological lift today as I made the first of what will be many trips to the Motor Home over the next 7 weeks loading it up for our trip to the southwest in mid October.  Yes, I know it's waaaay early to be loading up but that's why I used the word, psychological:))  Other than heading for the 4 Corners area of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona after leaving Bayfield we have no idea where we will be headed after that but for sure we want to check out new areas where we have never been before.  And, one of our big preferences this year is warmer temperatures.   As much as we have enjoyed South-eastern Arizona over the past few years we would sure like to find somewhere with warmer nights.  Many nights we would be colder in the high desert than the folks right here back home in winter time Bayfield.  We're still awaiting word from the Ranch folks near McNeil Az. as to whether they will need us this winter or not, and for how long and when.

As any Snow Birder knows there is literally a mountain of things to be done and taken care of before leaving on a 5 or 6 month winter trip.  Travel insurance to be arranged, cell phone, television and internet plans to be re-activated for the States.  Motor Home insurance and Emergency Road Services to be re-newed.  Telephone calls have to be made and emails have to be sent.  It is a huge amount of organizing that requires a lot of time and patience.  Kelly handles all that stuff in stride and lucky for us she does.  Having to sit on the end of a telephone line pressing 1 for English or 6 for a Department and then ending up with someone from India on the line would do me in within seconds and I would end up spinning off screaming into outer space somewhere!!  We're fortunate in one aspect in that we do not have to plan and make reservations for a string of RV Parks for the winter.  Can't imagine having to do that.

We still have not had to put the big plastic head cone back on the Pheebster.  She has been really good at not bothering her stitches.  Just one more day before resuming her morning speedball walks and 6 more days before the tummy and leg stitches come out.   Right now she is totally back to normal and rarin to rip.

KELLY HAD BEEN TALKING TO THE OWNER OF DEER PARK LODGE WHO SAID THE POWER WAS OUT IN BAYFIELD AND SHE HAD NO LIGHTS  SO ON THE WAY PAST FROM THE SUNSET PHOTOS I THREW A LITTLE CAMERA FLASH AT HER HOUSE TO LIGHTEN THINGS UP A BIT:))

THE LAST PARAGRAPH:   Been a couple days since taking a blog reading break but can feel I am already getting a little shaky as withdrawal symptoms are making themselves felt.  What and how are people doing, where are they, where have they been and where are they going.  At some point I am going to have some catching up to do but for right now I just needed a little change of pace & perspective.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A local policeman had just finished his shift one cold November evening and was at home with his wife.
"You just won't believe what happened this evening , in all my years on the force I've never seen anything like it."
"Oh yes dear, what happened ?"
"I came across two guys down by the canal, one of them was drinking battery acid and the other was eating fireworks."
"Drinking battery acid and eating fireworks!! What did you do with them ?"
"Oh that was easy, I charged one and let the other off."
