WITH A BIT OF THE USUAL BUMBLING ABOUT WE DE-WINTERIZED THE RIG TODAY

DSC_0005

A mixture of sun & cloud this morning but enough sun to get little Bugsy & I into the Jeep & out into the countryside for a nice Sunday morning drive.  Air was a bit cool but no wind so we were able to get out & do a bit of exploring around at a few of our favorite places.  A stop in Goderich on our way home netted me a tote bin for the rig, some paint for a little project & a few 'quick connect' pieces for hooking up a garden hose to the rig.  I always seem to have problems threading a garden hose onto water faucets so that quick connect stuff makes it much easier & keeps my short patience fuse from launching me into orbit.

STOPPED ALONGSIDE A SWAMP FOR A FEW PHOTOS
We spent some relaxing time in the rig Saturday just sitting around with some nice music on the stereo revelling in all the comfortable space we now finally have.  With 2 full sliding wood doors between the living room & Kelly's bedroom (bathroom in between) the set-up is perfect for us.  The living room television or stereo isn't going to bother her later at night.   Pheebs & I can watch Family Guy.  And again we marvelled at the overall brightness in the coach with natures outside wonders beaming through our big windows.

KELLY READING UP ON OUR36’ 2003 TRIPLE E COMMANDER
We somehow bumbled our way through the rig's de-winterizing process today as well.  Seemed to be the usual grumbling on my part, turning of valves & levers & shouting back & forth, 'is there any water coming out of that tap yet'?  Had to refer to the book half a dozen times but after nearly half an hour we finally had some H20 flowing freely from all the taps.  Previous to that I had even managed to keep myself reasonably dry while loading in half a tank of fresh water.  Didn't even have to put on my rubber boots, snorkel & water wings.
DSC_0008
With a reasonably normal amount of difficulty Kelly figured out how to turn both the drivers & passenger Captains seats around.  I stayed out of that one except for  when some extra oomph was needed to leverage the swivel.  I did manage to figure out how to retract her sun visor for her a few days ago so I was able to score a few points with that one.

We have hydraulic levelling jacks on this coach & I kind of have a love/hate relationship with those things.  It's a better system than our Damon & I've had to do some reading on their operation.  Hydraulic jacks do have their pluses for sure....as long as they work properly.

For whatever reason every day last week felt like a Saturday.  Week days have been melding together on me for quite awhile now & I think that is natural for anyone stepping away from the workforce after awhile.  Dates & times become less important as a once necessary awareness takes on less importance.  I'm still very time conscious but with my week-end days now merging with my week days I find myself increasingly having to ask, 'what day is it today'?  Saturday, right......

Saw a question in our Shout Box while writing tonight’s post.  Question asked: “Why do so many RVers own a dog, cat or both”?  My answer to that question is simply, ‘because it is the type of caring people we RV folks are.’  When we began RVing back in 06 we had 3 dogs & it never entered our minds once that our 3 beloved family members would not be traveling with us.  And I emphasize the words ‘family members’ because that is exactly what our best Pals are.  Pets bring endless hours of love, affection & entertainment for us.  Whether we be out traveling or not they get us out for walks, remind us when it’s breakfast time & keep our laps warm on chilly nights.  They give life meaning.  And they give us a purpose for getting up in the morning & a contented reason for going to bed at night.  In their own way which sincere & caring pet owners understand they communicate with us & us with them.  It is a special bond like no other.  Our pets are our life.  Take away my best Pal & you take away my heart.

I have started my second Kindle book & have decided to stick with the fact based issues of UAP's (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) commonly referred to as UFO's. (Unidentified Flying Objects) Fascinating stuff for many of us.  This one is entitled, "UFO's: Myths, Conspiracies, and Realities” by Col. John Alexander.  Thanks Kevin M:))

NO NOT UFO’S…….JUST A COUPLE LILY PADS FLOATING ACROSS A SKY REFLECTION
Looking forward to having some warmer weather move in Monday.  Up to 70F inland they say but of course cooler here along the lake which I'm thinking still probably has ice on it out in the middle regions.  We will probably be lucky to reach 60 but no matter, 60 is good:))

GROANER'S CORNER:((    A man was in bad shape. He constantly gasped for breath and his eyes bulged. The doctors didn't give him long to live. He decided to live it up. Withdrawing all of his money from the bank, he went on a shopping spree. His last stop was at the most expensive haberdashery in the city. He pointed out a dozen silk shirts. He wore a size fourteen.  The clerk said, "Your neck looks bigger than fourteen. You need a sixteen."  The man said, "I know my size. I want them in a fourteen."  The clerk said, "I'll get them for you, but I want to warn you...if you wear a fourteen you'll gasp all day and your eyes will bulge."

SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE

DSC_0015-001

Well it's Saturday night & what to write about.  I feel I have been a little repetitious again with my focus on our Motorhome so.....something different for a change.  I recently heard a singer/songwriter describe song writing as a form of therapy. Couldn't agree with him more & I also understand the close connection that therapy analogy has to a few Bloggers such as myself. It's actually an opportunity for some of us to sit at our keyboards each night & write about what's on our mind.  For some people like me conversations do not come as easily as they once did.   Writing about thoughts & feelings instead of talking about them has become a very acceptably comfortable form of communication.   My preference of choice if you will.  I am one of those people with a type of introverted shyness which this phenomena of blog writing has helped over the years & I sensed that from the very first post I ever wrote years ago.  It just felt good inside to sit down & write something.  An avenue for creativity.  A soap box to climb up onto & shout 'hey I have something to say too'.   And say it I have been doing.  So just a big thank-you to all the readers who have hung in over the years through the ups, the downs, the gray days, the funny days, the flubs, the mistakes, the embarrassments, the high points, the accomplishments & the feeling good times.  Thank you all again for letting me have my say...........................

GROANER'S CORNER:(( "Lou, sit down. I've got some bad news. You don't have much time to live."  "How much longer do I have, Doc?"  "Ten." "Ten *what? Ten weeks? Ten months? Ten years??" "Nine ... Eight ..."

FINALLY MANAGED TO ‘UN-SCROOGE MYSELF THIS MORNING

DSC_0032

We had quite a drop in temperature overnight so it was back to my T-Shirt & warm flannel shirts again.  Nice for working outside though without that draining humidity we had a couple days ago.  Hauled out the house vacuum & cleaned out the rig's bins in preparation for organizing what goes where & where goes what.   I was anxious to get our carport floor clear of RV stuff.

TRILLIUMS, HOSTAS, & FERNS IN OUR BACK YARD

Kelly headed off to the Clinton Hospital this morning for a bone density test.  Upon her return I took over the Jeep (Santa Fe is still in the garage having a new clutch installed) & made my way to the Maitland Medical Center to leave some blood.  All the way to Goderich I had Shop-Vac on my mind.  Upon leaving the Medical Center I headed myself on over to the Canadian Tire store with the intention to check on & see what condition my Scrooge condition was in.  Grabbing a red cart inside the entrance door I quickly made my way over to the hardware department & grabbed a Shop-Vac right off the shelf before it even knew I was there.  Made a bee-line for the cashier before I got into an argument & totally Scrooged myself again.

SAW THIS OLD DODGE IN GODERICH THIS MORNING & I’M GUESSING EARLY 50’S SOMETHING

Upon arriving home I soon had that vac out of the box & pressed into service.  Lucky for me there was no assembly required except for attaching the hose & I was even able to do that myself.  Wasn't long & I had all the bins vacuumed out in the Big EEE.  Not that they were overly dirty but I just wanted to start things off with a clean slate.  I find it's best for me to go at something full bore when I first get it while my interest, enthusiasm, & excitement are peaked.  I have a tendency to get a little lazy in the cleaning department after a few months.

DSC_0025

WE DO NOT HAVE A POWER AWNING LIKE WE DID ON OUR LAST 2 RIGS, REALLY GOING TO MISS THAT

Spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning the wet bay & electrical bin plus the generator & propane tank.  Managed to get one bin organized & loaded as well.  Would you believe this rig has 4 on-board fire extinguishers.  Also did a bit of crawling around underneath to have a look at all the undercoating & insulation Triple E builds into their products.  Also noticed some fairly new BILSTEIN shocks.  Bonus:))

DSC_0004

YEP, THAT THERE’S OUR NEW SHOP-VAC ALRIGHT & THAT’S THE RIG’S ‘WET BAY’ --- CAME TO THE CONCLUSION TODAY IT’S BEST TO HAVE THE SEWER OUTLET PIPE OUTSIDE THE RIG INSTEAD OF IN A BIN BECAUSE THAT WAY IF ONE HAS A ‘CRAP EXPLOSION’ ALL THE LITTLE BURGY BITS WILL END UP ON THE GROUND & NOT IN THE BIN

LARGEST PROPANE TANK IN A RIG WE HAVE EVER HAD --- SHOULD BE ENOUGH PROPANE IN THERE TO POWER US TO THE MOON

We are still coming across things Don has left for us in the rig like a BBQ & some great like new birding & nature field guide books.  A complete set of tire covers as well as blocks of wood he had made for placing under the hydraulic jacks.  Other blocks made for levelling as well.  We just keep finding little perks & goodies.

ALWAYS WANTED ONE OF THESE WIDE REAR MUD GUARDS AS WELL

Because of the cold temperatures Kelly didn't come out to the rig today but with things warming up Saturday she plans on spending time inside getting a bunch of our stuff organized & put away.  It's a good time to do that because we have a long week-end going on here in Canada & in our area the roads will be full of tourists.  Always a good time to stay home.  Because of the close proximity of trees & shrubs around our rig I can't really get a good photo of it so next week (weather permitting) I'll back the Big E out on the road or take it for a short drive in the country to grab myself a photo for our sidebar.

DSC_0036

This is actually the third time I have written tonight's post.  Something has gone wrong somewhere with either Live Writer or Picasa.  I generally write my post first then add the photos last.  About a week ago while adding photos my whole post suddenly disappeared & I had to start all over.  Tonight the same thing happened again while I was adding photos & despite my repeated clicks on the ‘Save’ button as I was going along.  Right now I am writing this as an email in Hotmail.  At least if I lose it again I will not lose all my written text.  I have no idea what has gone wrong or why but it just started happening about 5 days ago.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this using Live Writer & Picasa.  I've been using these 2 programs together for probably 5 years now & this is the first time this has ever happened.  Can you spell ‘F.R.U.S.T.A.T.E.D’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AWNING DOWN & DRYING OUT FROM PREVIOUS DAYS HEAVY RAINS

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A woman's husband has been slipping in and out of a coma for several months yet she stayed by his bedside every single day. When he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he said, "You know what? You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business fell, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you gave me support. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. When I consider all that..................... I think you bring me bad luck!"

RAINED ALL DAY & THEN SOME

DSC_0027

BAYFIELD’S HARBOR MOUTH

Sure had us a big dump of rain today & that kinda put the lid on any outside activities.  Did manage to level up some gravel around the leading edge of the cement pad but got myself mighty wet doing it.  Needing something to do so I moved most of our RV stuff out of the carport storage area into the carport itself.  Wasn't really necessary to do that but like I said, just needed something to do.  Because of all the rain & mud we stayed out of the Motorhome today but by golly with sunny days ahead we’ll be right back in there again Friday making things homey:))

GETTING THINGS READY TO ORGANIZE INTO THE RIGS BINS SHORTLY & AWWW NUTS I GOT THE BRAND NEW FLOOR ALL GOOPED UP WITH MUD ALREADY

Watched myself another great music documentary on Roku/Netflix this afternoon.  Bob Dylan & The Band's 'Down In The Flood.'  Story about Bob Dylan & the Band telling about their the legendary time together & recordings made near Woodstock NY.  (The basement tapes/music from big Pink)  Three members of The Band are already gone.  Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, & Levon Helm.  Richard Manuel is buried in Stratford Ontario, his home town.

Over the years I've read about different cleaning products fellow RV'ers like to use on the interior/exterior of their rigs.  Can't remember any of them of course & I have tried a few things but nothing I can remember ever really knocked my socks off for brightening up the outside of an older faded RV.  Our finish is in very good shape but could use just a little sparkle I’m thinking.  Am wondering what folks would suggest for bringing a little of that magic sparkle back.  I've used ‘Armor-All’ for years on dash interiors etc but after a few recent comments about the harmful qualities of the stuff I've decided not to use it anymore.  I'll take Chris & Carons (TRAVELS WITH CC & DIXIE) suggestion & see if I can find me some 303 or Protect-All.  I do have half half a gallon of ‘The Solution’ here but it just doesn’t seem to cut the mustard.  Picked it up 3 years ago in Quartzsite & maybe it’s just too old or something.

OH PLEASE MOM & DAD DON’T SELL THIS OLD NAUGAHYDE COUCH OUT FROM UNDER ME
After moving our living room loveseat into the Winnebago last summer we bought an old used Naugahyde couch to replace it.  With the Winnie for sale now having a different couch in it we brought our loveseat home again & put it back in the living room.  Naugahyde couch went to the sunroom but was too crowded.  Sold it last Sunday.

OUTSIDE STEREO SYSTEM & THAT ‘RED DEVIL’ IS THE CANISTER FOR THE CENTRAL VAC
I have been to the Grand Canyon 3 times & 2 of those times were to the Canyons North Rim.  Once on opening day in 1992.  Luckily both times at the North Rim there were very few people there & that automatically endeared me to that side of the canyon right off the bat.  Today was opening day once again as the rim opens for another season.  Fellow RV Blogger & friend GAELYN is a park ranger on the north side & has written a fine opening day post.  If you can't physically make it to the Canyon keep an eye on Gaelyn's blog as she writes her posts from the Canyon's North Rim over the upcoming season.

IF THE LARGE LIVING ROOM SLIDE WERE TO GET STUCK IN THE OUT POSITION THIS HAND CRANK WINCH MECHANISM LOCATED IN A BIN WILL BRING IT IN
Yes, that is a convection oven we have in the Motorhome & we are happy about that.  Had a regular propane oven in the Damon & think we only used it a couple times in the 6 years we had the rig.  We mostly used it to store stuff in.   Luckily for me it is very rare Kelly ever does any baking so an oven isn't something we use a lot & especially while traveling.  Thought Karen had a good idea though & you can see her comment on my Wednesday night post.  And that foot stool of Kelly's in the rig does open up to reveal storage space inside.

THIS WALK/SQUEEZE IN CLOSET STRETCHES THE ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE COACH ACROSS THE BACK --- SHELVES AT ONE END
Oh & about that that engine hood we couldn't figure out how to open on the rig.  Well that was old 'too cautious' me again.  I have a habit of being too gentle with things that sometimes simply call for some good old extra umph.  I'm always worried about breaking, bending, or jamming stuff up so I'm not one to normally pull or push hard on things.  Engine hoods generally have a safety catch of sorts & despite looking under the dash & not finding a T-handled release lever I was hesitant about pulling on the two unlocked engine hood handles & braking something.  So with that thought in mind this morning I walked right on out there, grabbed those handles & gave a heave.  Hood came right open just as it was designed to do.  I'm beginning to understand how Triple E fits things together nice & tight.  Now if I were to follow Triple E's lead & tighten up what I write about I wouldn't feel so bad about embarrassing myself all the time....Ya think!!

NOTHING TO OPENING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT…….WHEN YOU KNOW HOW

Finished my  book/kindle. (UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record)  This book factually answered my questions & reaffirmed many things I have long suspected.  If your looking for razzle dazzle, little green men, & blurry photos of saucer shaped objects this book is not for you.  If you want to be dramatically entertained this book is again not for you.  And if you don't have any interest in knowing what's going on or should I say what isn't going on then this fact based book would be a total waste of time.  It’s unfortunate the American Government & so many people do not take this seriously.

Guess I had better start off tonight's post with a couple corrections from my Tuesday night post.  I mis-understood Dana (the cement guy) when he said about not being on that new cement pad for a week.  He meant to hold off putting our heavy Santa Fe in there.  Dana finished up the carport project today & said I could put the Motorcycle back in Monday.  Using a concrete saw he cut expansion lines into the cement this afternoon & said the pad was ready for walking on.  Also mentioned the surface was slightly roughed for traction & to avoid slipping.  Said we were good to go but cautioned us about doing any heavy duty roller skating on it for a few days:))  Another thing I had wrong in the blog was the ID of the fellow helping Dana do the cement work.  It was not his Father.  And the day before I said something about not wanting the Triple E sitting with a full gas tank for a couple months.  Ed from THE PEREGRINATING GRAYBEARD said, "Does that mean that now you have it your not going to use it until you start south again"?  No, we plan to go RVing in the Big EEE this summer.  I must have had one of my older RVing hats on when I said about leaving it parked for a couple months.  I’ll have more in a future post about our upcoming shake-down cruise & subsequent jaunts around South-Western Ontario:))

DANA MAKES THE FINAL CEMENT CUT THIS AFTERNOON – WE ARE TOTALLY PLEASED WITH THE EXCELLENT JOB HE DID FOR US & I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HARD WORKING PERSONABLE YOUNG FELLA TO ANYONE IN OUR AREA NEEDING ANY CEMENT WORK DONE --- TWO THUMBS UP FOR SURE:))

It didn’t take us long to get ourselves into another frustratingly embarrassing situation with the rig again this morning.  Try as we might we could not get the sliding living room & dining area windows open.  Again, we are very familiar with how RV windows work & a simple up & down lever either locks or unlocks them.  Neither one of us could budge any of the windows & we didn’t want to try & leverage them in any way in case Don had maybe put a small security pin in somewhere.  So, another email of to Cambridge with a simple question….How do we open the windows?  Now how embarrassing is that for seasoned RV’ers eh.  Email came back saying no security pins or screws & windows should work as designed.  Nope!!  So from my toolbox I grabbed a block of wood & a hammer.  With half a dozen light taps with the hammer against that block of wood against the window frame we were at last able to get all the windows unstuck.  We have heard Triple E builds a very solid & well insulated coach so we are assuming these windows are a part of that tight fitting insulation factor.  Also have to keep in mind the rig has been in storage since last year some time.  As we worked the windows back & forth a bit they did seem to free up some but we’ll have to keep that block of wood & hammer handy for sure.  At least until we can get those windows trained enough to work a little easier with themselves.  (and we still haven’t figured out how to get the engine hood open despite using the correct key to unlock it)

<<< ALSO HAS HERSELF A NICE WOODEN FOOTSTOOL WHICH SHE USED MOST OF THE WAY HOME FROM CAMBRIDGE A COUPLE DAYS AGO --- SAID IT WAS REALLY COMFORTABLE

I’m very happy to have the Workhorse onboard computer back again.  Missed that after we sold the Damon.  It can be configured to monitor oil pressure, outside temperature, miles per gallon as your moving, how many miles left until the next fuel stop, etc.  I was also able to set the odometer to miles per hour instead of kilometers an hour.  I’m from the old school & still think the American way.  Also because we do most of our traveling in the States I want things to read in miles not killoblometers or whatever it is Canada uses up here.

Discovered the dash radio not only plays CD’s but cassette tapes as well.  Nice option for some old technology there.  And I have a ba-zillion tapes too.  Haven’t figured out how to load the multi-disc CD player yet.  Couldn’t find a manual on that.  Haven’t tackled the TV & surround sound stuff yet either.  Gotta be in a calm frame of mind for that technical wizardry.  Soon as it was dark Tuesday night I slipped out to the rig to switch on the dash lights.  Groovy.  Just love all that speedometer & cool gauge lights stuff.  Predominant color is red.  My driver door even casts a light to the ground when opened.  And what a cool sun visor.  I just press a switch & the visor comes down like a miniature projection screen.  Anyway, between being frustrated with trying to figure out new systems & having the patience to do so we are still having ourselves some some mighty fine excitable fun.  Maybe tomorrow we will try out the central vac system.  Probably end up getting myself sucked up the tube real good…………………

Bob from THE CARETAKER CHRONICLES wondered about the problem with our Triple E's rear heater I had mentioned last week.  Don was able to fix that before we picked it up & showed us the diagram he had drawn out to trouble shoot the problem.  Turns out it was a wiring glitch possibly straight from the factory.  He told us how he methodically tracked the problem down & corrected it.  Sounded complicated to me so my mind automatically fogged my memory.  This brain of mine some days can find eating a bowl of cereal complicated.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Frank was a happily married man who had only one complaint: His wife, Myra, was always nursing sick birds.  One cold November evening he came home to find a raven with a splint on its beak sitting in his favorite chair. On the dining room table there was a feverish eagle pecking at an aspirin tablet, while in the kitchen Myra was comforting a shivering wren.  Frank dropped his briefcase and strode over to where his wife was toweling down the cold little bird. "Myra!" he shouted. "I can't take it anymore! We've got to get rid of all of these da..."  Myra held up her hand and and cut him off in mid-curse. "Please dear," she said. "Not in front of the chilled wren!"
