I HAVE LEFT A ‘CLUE’ ABOUT SOMETHING IN TONIGHT’S POST REGARDING THE ‘BAYFIELD BUNCHES’ FUTURE

DSC_5611

Snow came in the night changing our dull gray green brown landscape to white again.  Those moderate drizzly wet snow flurry showers continued for most of the morning.  Highways were wet with road salt while secondary and country roads were lightly covered.  Pheebs and I headed off in the direction of Clinton with our first stop at Huron Tirecraft to check on a couple 22.5 inch Michelin tires.  Next stop was a coffee to go at Tim Hortons.  From there I popped Libby into 4 wheel drive and headed out into the countryside looking for a few photos.

SNOW COVERED BACK ROADS TODAY

Well the score changed again and is now Squirrel 6 – Al 5!!.  Looking up from our sunroom computer this afternoon about 1 o’clock I saw a black Squirrel up on our bird feeding station.  #!!%&**  He had a big grinning sneer on his face and he flicked me ‘the paw’!!  Having no idea how he got up there I kept a close eye on the feeder but it wasn’t close enough.  Twice more I had to shoo him off.   Don’t know if it’s a him or her but there were 3 of the little black Devils racing around the yard today.  Probably has something to do with the corn we’ve been putting out for them this year.

It's the long afternoons that are most difficult sometimes.  For me, mornings have always been a time of doing things and I haven't changed much on that over the years.  Still up before dawn and out the door not long afterwards going somewhere or doing something.  I just seem to be driven to do that every day.  To get up then sit around doing nothing doesn't work for me.  Slowing down in the afternoon seems easier but that's where I stumble.  Sliding into evening isn't too bad because I have my blog to put together and that does keep me busy for a few hours.  As long as I am able to continue my relaxing Jeep rides with Pheebs for a few hours each morning I at least have a chance of keeping my head above water.  Those few precious hours with my best Pal, my music, and my camera, whether wandering country roads or walking quiet forest paths is always the highlight of each waking day for me and I so much look forward to it.  I am one of those people who needs their 'alone' time.

Somewhere in tonight’s post I have left a ‘clue’ (maybe two) about something concerning the ‘Bayfield Bunches’ near future.  I’m curious to see if anyone picks up on it………….

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A man was sitting in his house when he heard a tapping on the door.  He went to see who it was.  He opened the door and looked around he then heard a tiny voice, "Hey mister, could you lend me 10 bucks?"  The man looked down and saw a snail sitting on his porch. He said, "What do you want?"  The snail said, "Could you lend me 10 bucks?"  The man yelled, "get out of here!" and then kicked him off the porch.  About a year later the man hears a tapping on his door again.  He goes out to see who it is.  He looks around and he finally heard a tiny voice say, "What did you do that for?"

HEY CANADA DON’T LET POLITICS PREVENT YOU FROM ENJOYING YOURSELF SOUTH OF THE BORDER AND MY PICK FOR AMERICA’S NEXT PRESIDENT

DSC_5537

SNOWY SLUSH TODAY

Rains came in the night and turned to wet snow this morning.  Made for slushy roads but the 3 of us piled into the Jeep and headed for Goderich anyway with Pheebs and I again driving Miss Kelly.  A few things to pick up, a few things to drop off and we grabbed some breakfast at Pat & Kevin's on the Square.  A first time there for us and we found it a nice place.  When entering be sure to look up and watch the aerial train going round and round under the ceiling.  Liked the softly played 50-ish and early 60’s music as well.  Goderich’s main street in the business hub downtown is a complete circle so Goderich folks have always called it ‘The Square’.  Ya I know.  Pat & Kevin’s is located in the same block as the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) station.

THAT BLACK TRACK UP BY THE CEILING IS WHERE THE LITTLE TRAIN RUNS ALONG

DSC00898DSC_5543

A customary swing down around the harbor didn’t net us any new sightings except for lots of wet snow coming down.  Pheebs got out for a ‘peeps’ and was soon back into the Jeep.  It was our last Goderich stop before making tracks for home.  And yes we actually did make tracks….. through snowy slush all the way on Porters Hill Line.

it’s a combination of rain and snow coming down this afternoon and it feels at times like our lives have pretty much come to a standstill now as we struggle to adjust to this unfortunate early winter weather.  Gray days are upon us.

GLAD IT’S NOT ME OUT THERE HAVING TO WORK IN THIS KIND OF COLD WET WEATHER

Here’s a little something I have blogged about several times before over the years and still don’t understand the ‘thinking’ behind it.  Yes, America has some frustratingly serious political problems at the moment but why refuse to go there just because you don’t like who happens to be in charge of things at the moment.  Why oh why oh why would a person let politics deny them the countless beautiful areas of America.  The warm winter climates of the southern States, the eye popping beauty of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, California, and Utah just to name a few.  Setting all the usual anti-America frenzied exaggerations aside, traveling in America is not like traveling in countries like Iran, Iraq, Libya and others.  Unless you fall into the exaggeration state of mind that is.  Traveling in America is much like traveling in Canada.  We speak the same language, drive the same cars, like the same things, understand each other, and get along well.  If your Canadian and want to go south for the winter then go south.  Don’t sit in front of your television grumbling about American politics.  Just go, enjoy yourself and appreciate what you see.  Never mind what’s going in Washington because they are not minding what’s going on at your house.  Travel America, enjoy the people you meet and enjoy the products you buy.  America has been our second winter home for the past 12 years and had we decided back in 2006 we didn’t like their  governments way of running things then just think of the countless memories and good times we would have selfishly denied ourselves.  There would have been no Bayfield Bunch, no blog and no photos.  We would have just sat here all these winters grumbling at our televisions.  So knock yourselves out fellow Canadians and go have yourselves a great  non-political time south of the border.  We would if we could, maybe we should……………..

Oh, and by the way America, here’s my suggestion for your next President.  Never mind political parties and all that stuff and focus on the mature integrity of this responsible and respected person who I think could bring much needed honest leadership to your country.  That is if he could be encouraged to throw his hat into the ring.  And it’s not impossible.  Watch this short interview in it’s entirety.   President For 2020.

STARTING TO LOOK A LITTLE CHRISTMASY THESE DAYS

GROANER’S CORNER:((   A man was speeding down the highway, feeling secure in a gaggle of cars all traveling at the same speed. However, as they passed a speed trap, he got nailed with an infrared speed detector and was pulled over. The officer handed him the citation, received his signature and was about to walk away when the man asked, "Officer, I know I was speeding, but I don't think it's fair - there were plenty of other cars around me who were going just as fast, so why did I get the ticket?""Ever go fishing?" the policeman suddenly asked the man."Ummm, yeah..." the startled man replied. The officer grinned and added, "Did you ever catch all the fish?"

One Christmas, Joe and Peter built a skating rink in the middle of a field. A shepherd leading his flock decided to take a shortcut across the rink. The sheep, however, were afraid of the ice and wouldn't cross it. Desperate, the shepherd began tugging them to the other side.  'Look at that, 'remarked Peter to Joe, 'That guy is trying to pull the wool over our ice!'

BAYFIELD’S ICONIC OFFSHORE STEAMBOAT WRECK HAS FINALLY DISAPPEAED BENEATH THE WAVES AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS

DSC_5511

THERE IS SOMETHING MISSING OFFSHORE FROM THIS BAYFIELD SHORELINE

Yes it’s true….Bayfield has lost one of it’s most notable Lake Huron landmarks or should that be lakemarks.  What was left of the old Steamboat  Linda Hindman has finally disappeared beneath the waves of Lake Huron just off the shoreline south of the harbor.  The rusting hulk had been a tourist attraction and gathering point for summer swimmers, boaters, seagulls and cormorants for nearly fifty years.  If you click the above Hindman link you can read about her history……….Just to make sure her disappearance wasn’t a ‘Twitter’ rumor Pheebs and I headed into Bayfield this morning to check it out.  Yep, it’s gone alright.  The concern now is where did it go and how deep is it.  If only underwater a few feet it becomes a boating hazard.  If dragged out to deeper water by last weeks heavy winds and waves it poses no threat.  I imagine the search will be on in early Spring to locate it and make sure it is not posing an underwater hazard.

Despite a heavy cloud cover it was an acceptable day with temps around 40F and no wind.  Pheebs and I were up to Goderich and back and now that our snow is gone I spent time outside this afternoon taking care of  yard-works projects etc.  I think if life gets any more exciting than this I won’t be able to handle it.

A CLOUDY RAIN DRIZZLED MORNING, MUDDY ROADS, AND CORN KERNELS IN A BLANKET

DSC_5107

DOWNY WOODPECKER

As expected we woke up to a heavy cloud cover under rainy skies.  Temps were in the high 30’s but a stiff wind made it feel cold and damp.  Nonetheless Pheebs and I ventured out anyway and noticed right away a lot of our snow had already melted.

WE CAME UPON A FAIR SIZE CORN SPILL SO WITHOUT ANY CONTAINERS ABOARD I LAID OUT A BLANKET, SCOOPED A BUNCH OF CORN KERNELS INTO IT, AND PUT IT IN THE JEEP…YES WE DO LOOK AFTER OUR SQUIRRELS HERE AT HOME

DSC_5487

Frozen country roads were in the process of turning into a muddy soup but we didn’t let that deter us and plowed through the goop for a couple hours.  Jeeps a mess but at least it’s just good old dirty mud and not corrosive road salt.  They don’t salt country roads like they do highways so I have a tendency to take country roads even in the wintertime.  Absolutely hate the way they over-salt roads around here.

It was a challenge finding any photos in the morning’s drabness but we went looking anyway.  I just enjoy driving along slowly keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.  And I’m also watching for UFO’s and patiently waiting for one of those big things to land on the road in front of me so I can snap a few pics.  I have a far greater belief in Alien life than I do for many other popularly held mythology beliefs. In one of the many factual history related books I have read these past few years I recently and quite unexpectedly stumbled across a chapter in RAF Air Marshal and Mosquito pilot Sir Peter Horsley’s book entitled, 'Sounds From Another Room'.  If you click the link be sure to read the brief description of who this man was and the book he wrote.  The chapter that leaped off the pages for me was a strange meeting he had after the war with a man by the name of ‘Janus’.  Reading the chapter several times this man ‘Janus’ talks of things I have thought about and believed in for years.  Still do and even more so.  To me, Peter Horsley is a credible writer with impeccable credentials that intertwine with British Royalty all the way to Buckingham Palace, the Queen of England and Prince Phillip.  Fact, not fiction or mythology!!  Be sure to read the link about this man and the chapter in his book called, ‘Janus’.  And if possible………read it with an open mind.

DSC_5249‘NO I AM NOT TURNING AROUND AND YOU CAN’T MAKE ME EITHER’

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A local priest and a pastor were fishing on the side of the road. They thoughtfully made a sign saying, "The End is Near! Turn yourself around now before it's too late!" and showed it to each passing car. One driver who drove by didn't appreciate the sign and shouted at them, "Leave us alone, you religious nuts!" All of a sudden they heard a big splash, looked at each other, and the priest said to the pastor, "You think maybe we should have just said 'Bridge Out' instead?"

"It's no use. Art doesn't listen to me," said a little boy who was praying for a new bike."Art who?" asked the boy's mother."Art in heaven," came the reply.

Two girlfriends were speeding down the highway at well over 90 mph. "Hey," asked the brunette at the wheel, "see any cops following us?" The blonde turned around for a long look. "As a matter of fact, I do." "Crap!" cursed the brunette. "Are his flashers on? The blonde turned around again. "Yup...nope...yup...nope....yup....."
