TO DORGLE OR NOT TO DORGLE….THIS IS THE QUESTION:))

BAYFIELD’S LITTLE INN  (ALL BAYFIELD LITTLE INN PICS WERE TAKEN WITH MY POWERSHOT CANON SX210is)
First order of day was to drop off the Motor Home this morning at the Bayfield Garage & have a persistent ABS brake light checked out plus a brake check, fluid levels and belts, etc.

KELLY’S LOBSTERGATOR EGGS BENEDICT
As many readers know, I am not a 'Foody' person nor do I care for fancy type restaurants regardless of how good the food is inside.  Imagine my surprise this morning when Kelly informed me we were headed for the well known and upper scale ‘Little Inn’ of Bayfield for breakfast.  Some guests at DEER PARK LODGE had told her how good the breakfasts were there and that the prices were reasonable.  Kelly assured me I didn't have to get dressed up and I could wear my old lumber jack shirt and ripped jeans so that was good enough for me.  We headed for the Little Inn after dropping off the Motor Home at the garage.

KELLY WITH HER LOBSTER BENEDICT AND THAT WAS OUR LITTLE TABLE FOR TWO IN THE FAR CORNER UNDER THE WINDOW
The Little Inn of Bayfield was built in 1875 as a Hotel which it still is with accommodations upstairs.  I was relieved to see the dining room was not busy so that meant I could have a comfortable bacon and eggs breakfast.  I like to dip my toast in my eggs and toss my bacon in the air, tip my head back and catch it:))  A nice $7.50 breakfast which included a pretty darn good cup of coffee.  Kelly had the Lobster Benedict.  Personally, I don’t eat anything that has been dredged out of an ocean.  Pet peeve....same as Crackle Barrel, they don't butter the toast!!!!  But, here's what I liked best...no grinding ram jam noise garbage coming out of the sound system.  Astrud Gilberto was singing, 'The Girl from Ipanema' when we walked in.  How nice it was to eat breakfast with the soft strains of soothing Latin music in the background.  Kudos to The Little Inn of Bayfield on their taste in music:))  And, also another plus for the Little Inn is the fact they use all locally grown products in their food preparation.  Ok, so the Lobster is an exception but I bet it’s still Canadian grown.

From there it was off to Mitchell Ontario to visit Uncle Harry.  All was well there and Harry's doing great compared to a month ago.  Pheebe was her usual good little self.  We were home by 11:30 and Kelly headed into work.  I took the 'Rocket Dog' for a spin around the trail and that was about if for the afternoon.

Bayfield Garage called around 4 and the coach was done.  Nothing serious with the brakes aside from some minor cleaning etc.  Codes were checked and some chassis ground's were cleaned.  The 8.1 Vortec engine's serpentine belt was replaced and all fluid levels checked.  The Motor Home goes back in again next Tuesday morning to be undercoated as well as the Jeep.  Jeep's tires will be rotated at that time as well.  We have been taking our vehicles to the Bayfield Garage ever since moving to this area nearly 9 years ago.  Sooooooo nice to have a trustworthy and well respected garage nearby.

Reading MERIKAY'S BLOG this morning about 'worries' I was reminded of a post where I touched upon the topic of 'worries and problems' back in March of 2010.  Scroll down half way through the post to pick up MY THOUGHTS about taking your current sack of worries and problems to the problem store and trading them in for a new sack of worries and problems:))

From time to time as I'm writing I occasionally make up my own words as I roll along.  Turns out one of my made up words in a recent blog has turned out to actually mean something and of course it's dictionary meaning had little to do with my meaning.  I used the word 'dorgling' in the following context...'More dorgling around with the Motor Home this afternoon in preparation for our blast off next month.'  (I felt the word dorgling was better than the word dinking)  Now, here's what ED found out and said about the word.....dorgling!!  "I didn't know exactly what you were doing with the Motor Home so I looked for a definition of the word. The only one I could find was in the Urban Dictionary".  Dorgle.....A verb which describes the action one would take to show affection to a small or cute animal or person. Dorgle is an action above cuddling or snuggling.  Ed goes on to say, "I knew that you loved your Motor Home just didn't understand how deeply"!  Thanks for the definition Ed.  Now, to Dorgle or not to Dorgle....this is the question:))

A RAINY MORNING FINDS US GUYS AT McDONALDS AGAIN:))

DSC_0003

WE SLIPPED OVER TO DEER PARK LODGE TO CATCH THE SUNSET TONIGHT….KELLY IS IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PICTURE

Had ourselves a very rain soaked dull gray gloomy kind of day.  The big rain Monster slid across Lake Huron from the American Midwest and began dumping on us about 8 a.m.  By 10 o'clock even the furry guys were down in the dumps so I loaded up the gang and we Jeeped ourselves up to McDonald's in Goderich for breakfast.  Picked up a few groceries at Food Basics first.  Rather than take the drive-thru with two hungry hounds breathing down my neck I decided to go in and pick up our brekky.  One sausage McMuffin with egg and one Burrito.  We chowed down our snacks in the Jeep, in the parking lot, in the rain.  All went well,  I never lost any fingers and we were back home by 11:))

IMG_0870

WE HAD JUST SHARED A SAUSAGE McMUFFIN AND NOW IT WAS THE BURRITO’S TURN

However, I did have a momentarily embarrassing moment at the McDonald’s counter this morning and luckily I wore a hat and was able to pull it low down over my eyes.  Decided to pay for breakfast with the usual pocket full of change I lug around.  Hauled out a wad of coins and began counting out some change.  Unbeknownst to me something else came out of my pocket and dropped on the counter.  I heard the words, “eeouuuww, what is that” from the young girl across the counter from me.  A quick glance down told me what it was but not what it may have appeared to be to that McDonald’s staffer.  It looked every little bit like something you might find in a kitty litter box.  Sensing this, I was quick to stammer out my explanation about dog training classes and how I carry dog kibble in my left pocket for training purposes.  She stared at me quizzically for a few seconds then proceeded to get my order ready.  I’m sure she thought I was the one in need of training as she wished me one of those, “have a nice day” things…………..on my way out!!

THIS IS THE MOST REQUESTED COTTAGE AT DEER PARK LODGE AND IT IS CALLED THE HUTCH…BEHIND ME IS THE CLIFF TOP OVERLOOKING LAKE HURON

Dropped our unassembled satellite dish off at Lorne's RV first thing this morning because Lorne figured he would be able to assemble that for us.  We needed a different post for the new tripod anyway and that was something Lorne said he had.  Better to have it assembled correctly rather than me trying to bend and hammer the nuts and bolts into place with a crowbar and a tire iron!!

HERE’S THE GUYS WATCHING FOR MOM TO COME HOME THIS AFTERNOON

Judy from TRAVELS WITH EMMA had a question for me in an email this morning asking, ' is there a reason you use comment moderation on your blog? Having to type in that word verification is a real pain in the pattuti, and I was just curious as to why you require that for people wanting to post a comment on your blog.'  Well, I sure don't want to be causing any pattuti damage out there so figured I had better have a look at this.  It's probably been a couple years since setting all that up in my Blogger settings and I do remember taking that word verification off once and it was only a couple of days before I began to get spammed.  Since Blogger has been making more ongoing changes lately I decided to have a look at all that again this morning.   We'll see how it goes.  By the way, word verification or comment approval has never been a problem for me and has never prevented me from leaving a comment on someone's blog.  If something in someone's post interests me enough to leave a comment, then I will leave a comment....regardless of any minor authorization or verification stuff!!  No big deal.

Now, I had better get a little something cleared up here before I come off sounding like Uncle Scrooge.  The idea to tip the Ashley girl at Tim Horton's Sunday was a good thought.  However, I never did meet Ashley.  So, how did I know the name of the girl at the pick-up window?  When I talked to the girl at the counter I told her I had been through the drive-thru at about 10:10 that morning.  She in turn turned to another girl asking her who was on the window at that time.  The girl said, "Ashley" and that is how I knew her name.  Wished I could tell you I reached into the bag and pulled out a tip for Ashley but to be honest with you....I just didn't think of it.  Not so much a Scrooge as a forgetful Inspector Columbo:))

GROANER'S CORNER:((  One Sunday morning, a mother went in to wake her son and tell him it was time to get ready for church, to which he replied, "I'm not going.""Why not?" she asked."I'll give you two good reasons," he said. "One, they don't like me, and two, I don't like them."His mother replied, "I'll give YOU two good reasons why YOU SHOULD go to church. (1) You're 59 years old, and (2) you're the pastor!"

MY $20 CUP OF TIM HORTON'S COFFEE THIS MORNING

DSC_0048
LOOKING SOUTHWARDS ALONG THE GODERICH LAKE HURON SHORELINE IN THE DIRECTION OF BAYFIELD JUST DOWN THE COAST ABOUT 13 MILES
Motorcycle or Jeep?  Jeep or Motorcycle.....??  Had it been a tad warmer at 9:30 this morning I might have opted for a bike ride but with the heater in the Jeep to ward off a few morning chills I threw the cameras in little Jumpity Jeepers and headed on down the road.  After all, it was Sunday morning and that is my favourite time of the week to get out and meander around the back country roads.  This area of Ontario is all rural farm land so we have thousands of miles of paved and gravel roadways connecting farm fields, farms and small country towns.  Roads, roads everywhere.
IMG_2872  IMG_2873
SOMEBODY FELL ASLEEP WITH THEIR HEAD ON MY KEYBOARD THIS MORNING
My first stop before getting the wheels dusty was at Tim Horton's in Clinton Ontario for a small coffee.  One cream & no sugar.  Slipped into the drive-thru and rolled right up to the speaker ordering my coffee.  Before reaching the pickup window 3 seconds later my hot coffee was sitting on the window ledge.  Handed the girl a $20 bill and was so focused on the quick service that I drove away with some nice Tim Horton thoughts in my head.
Beautiful morning for a drive as I once again marvelled at the different types of crops just about ready for harvesting in the fields.  I really enjoy looking at all the lovely old and new farms with their big maple shaded lawns mowed to perfection.  Long tree lined driveways, large houses and barns in some cases and cozy ranch style homes fixed up like something out of a cozy Anne Of Green Gables book.  With large white puffy clouds in a Robin's egg blue sky I had probably doddled along for maybe twenty miles when all of a sudden I had a thought that brought me up right quick.  I had not waited for the change to my $20 bill after picking up my cup of coffee at Tim Horton's in Clinton earlier.  Arrrrrggghhh!!  No wonder I was through the drive-thru so quick!!
DSC_8268 DSC_8276
THIS IS OUR NECK OF THE WOODS AND WE LIVE JUST A COUPLE HUNDRED YARDS TO THE LEFT OF THE ROAD IN THOSE TREES IN THE RIGHT HAND PHOTO
Well, what do I do, turn around and race back to hopefully retrieve my change or just keep rolling along enjoying the morning.  I opted for the second choice knowing I could head back through Clinton on my way to Bayfield later.  But, would my money be there waiting for me after a couple of hours.   Well, we'll see.  Figured it would be a good honesty check for the girl who took my order.
IMG_2880<<< BREAKFAST AT OUR HOUSE THIS MORNING

Came across the word 'nonsense' in my blog reading this morning and whenever I see that word now I am reminded of something in my life from the late 60's.  Way back around 1968 I think it was, if the fog lifts long enough to remember back that far, I briefly wrote a school newspaper column for an also brief Journalism class in Waterloo, Ontario I was enrolled in.  My last name is Bossence and my column was called, 'Bossence Nonsense.'  And, that is basically what my column was about too…..nonsense.  I may have touched on this in a previous blog one time.
Back in those days the Government offered re-training programs for adults called, coincidentally, 'The Adult Retraining Program.  This was the Governments attempt at getting people receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits to be hopefully retrained for the workforce while receiving these benefits.  Many courses were offered in the program and one of them was basic Journalism.  I somehow managed to finagle my way into that course as did a dozen other 'characters' like myself.  We were quite a collection of adult misfits to say the least.  What we learned in class each day was often as not discussed and hashed over later in the local area pubs.
I think I was only in this program for maybe 4 months when the whole Adult Training Program was re-evaluated and many courses dropped.   Journalism was one of them.  Well, that was too bad because I had liked it.  While in the course we put out a small monthly newspaper in which I wrote a column called, 'Bossence Nonsense'.  It consisted mainly of factual trivia, school events and rumoured gossip I would dig up around the school or in the pubs.  I do think I slanted it towards ‘rumoured gossip though and  I would weave all this sometimes general nonsense together in my column.  Enjoyed the 3 or 4 columns I did and learned a few basics of writing along the way.  Probably got a few people ticked off at me too.
DSC_3691
When the course was disbanded I applied for a two year General Arts course at Conestoga College in the Fall and amazingly enough  was once again accepted.  Wished I could tell you that I completed that course and graduated with flying colors but I can't.  Never even made it to the end of the first year.  Let me just say there was a lot of alcohol, some drugs and a lot of stupidity wrapped up in that short College time frame.  Only thing I ever really enjoyed and remembered from those few College months was one of the basic Psychology classes I had enrolled in.  Wished I would have had the foresight and maturity at the time to have pursued that further.  Oh well, just a little reminiscing tonight of days gone by.   Doesn't hurt to do that once and awhile as long as I don't dwell on that period in my life too long.
DSC_8167TIS THE SEASON FOR GRAPES ON THE NEIGHBOURS VINE >>>
Oh, and getting back to my $20 coffee story.  Heading home I stopped into the Clinton Tim Horton's coffee shop, skirted the long line up at the counter and went directly to the take out window section.  Began to explain my dilemma to one of the young girls when she beamed forth with a smile and a question.  "Do you drive a Jeep Sir" she asked. "Yes," I replied.  "Well you are one dumb ass forgetting your change aren't you"......OK, Ok, she really didn't say that but that is just about how I was feeling standing there.   With a big smile she walked over to a bulletin board beside the window and removed a small pinned up Tim Horton's bag with a bill stapled to it.  Inside the bag was my correct change.  I just love it sooooooo much when honesty prevails.  Thank you to Ashley at the take out window………..Smile
More dorgling around with the Motor Home this afternoon in preparation for our blast off next month.  Not really into any serious heavy duty loading yet....but soon:))

PHEEBS IS LEARNING FASTER THAN I AM:((

DSC_0010-4
Well, it was Saturday morning and that meant doggy training at 'On Golden Paws in Varna.  Only about a 5 minute nice country drive from where we live.  From where we live, anywhere we go begins with a nice country drive:))  Our class was up to a full compliment of 4 with the addition of a large black 7 month old Newfoundland bear of a dog who's name escapes me at the moment.  Good class with lots to learn and remember.  Pheebs is doing better than I am in the old memory department.  Maybe I am the one who should be on the other end of the leash getting the treats.

Found out today our southwest departure date of October 15th may be in jeopardy.  One of Kelly's daughters is flying from Vancouver with her twins at the end of the month for a 10 day or two week visit.  Daughter and twins will be staying in Cambridge but plan on visiting Bayfield and staying at Deer Park Lodge for a few days.  Kelly hasn't seen her daughter Sarah for 2 years and has never seen the twins.  We'll just have to play it by ear and see how it goes………………….

JOHN & BRENDA along with JANNA & MIKE are having a great time hanging out together and seeing some of Alberta Canada's finest scenery this past week.   I think IVAN is nearby wandering around somewhere as well.  Ivan in fact is a retired Park ranger who spent many years in the forests and mountains of that area. They all have some great scenic photos of Canada's mountain wonderland.  I have been to Lake Louise and can vouch for the fact that yes, that is the true color of the water in the lakes around there.  I especially remember the color of Emerald Lake.

An Indian chief had three wives, each of whom was pregnant. The first gave birth to a boy. The chief was so elated he built her a teepee made of deer hide. A few days later, the second gave birth, also to a boy. The chief was very happy. He built her a teepee made of antelope hide. The third wife gave birth a few days later, but the chief kept the details a secret. He built this one a two story teepee, made out of a hippopotamus hide. The chief then challenged the tribe to guess what had occurred.
Many tried, unsuccessfully. Finally, one young brave declared that the third wife had given birth to twin boys.
"Correct," said the chief. "How did you figure it out?"
The warrior answered, "It's elementary. The value of the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides."

PUTTING AWAY THE LAWN ORNAMENTS FOR ANOTHER YEAR

DSC_0041

ALONG THE GODERICH BEACH

Nice morning so figured it was a good time to do the annual fall gathering up of all lawn ornaments.  With our freezing cold and harsh winter environment here it doesn't take long for ceramic or any outside things to deteriorate.  I will leave our yard lights and frog pond pump on for another couple weeks and then put them away as well.  If we weren't leaving in less than a month I would have left this job for sometime in mid October.

A WHEELBARROW FULL OF LAWN ORNAMENTS

So quiet in the forest again this morning as the Pheebs and I made our way around the trail.  Motor isn't as enthusiastic about morning walks anymore but she did make it around the trail with us a couple times this past week.  Sometimes when she isn't up for a longer walk, Kelly takes her for a shorter leash walk around the roads of the park and she likes that.

THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY SAILS INTO GODERICH HARBOUR

TWO CANADIAN NAVY MINESWEEPERS IN THE PORT OF GODERICH TODAY

MIKE'S post this morning talks about the hazards of having an RV awning ballooned out or ripped off while driving.  He has tried several different devices to prevent that from happening but has not had confidence in them.  He recently installed something new which he is hoping will be the final solution.  We had a big Kansas wind balloon an awning out on us while heading west on I-70 near Salina, Kansas in November of 07.  That turned out to be a harrowing experience which I blogged about in BIG KANSAS WINDS .  Two months after this incident we were able to get a new awning installed while boon docked south of Quartzsite, Arizona.  This turned out to be a busy day in the desert which I posted about in, A BEEHIVE OF ACTIVITY

CERTAINLY A DIFFERENT LOOKING TYPE OF CREW FROM MY NAVY DAYS MANY YEARS AGO

Received an email from friend and fellow RV'er ED about an early winter snow storm in the area of Colorado we hope to head for one month from today.  Weather report in part says, 'The agency has issued a winter weather advisory for the central and southwest mountains of Colorado, including the Elk Mountains surrounding Aspen. Snow is expected to begin accumulating above 12,000 feet in elevation at around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Snow levels could drop as low as 9,000 feet, the weather service said. By Thursday morning, 2 to 6 inches of snow are possible above 10,000 feet.'  Ed says, "You can add Wolf Creek Pass to the list in this news item. But it means nothing until you get there in October."   Of course that is a bit disconcerting to hear of snow this early in those parts.  We have a weather site on our desktop for that mountainous region which I will begin monitoring daily in another couple of weeks.  Unfortunately, we cannot get away earlier than October 15th so we will have to play it by ear.  If push comes to shove and the weather is too bad we will have to change our plans and divert south at some point.  We could be down to some day by day decision making based on current and existing weather conditions when we get into that area.

SURE WISHED I HAD A NICE PAIR OF POWERFUL BINOCULARS  FOR ASTRONOMY  VIEWING  LIKE THOSE IN THE TOP PHOTO AND IS THAT ‘RUST’ I SEE ON THAT GUN!!!

Like a lot of fellers my age I grew myself up in blue jeans and for many years never deviated too far from that track.  But, somewhere in the last decade I seemed to have slipped out of my blue jeans into other things like dark green work pants, large pocketed tank pants and fat guy's track pants etc.  And, in the cold Canadian winters I mainly wore some kind of lined pants because I never did care for blue jeans in frigid weather.  That denim material is just way too cold for me.  Sure, back in the teenage days we all wore those jeans regardless of how cold it was.  The first priority then was looking cool and the last priority or care in the world was freezing to death!!   At some point in the last 6 months I seem to have shifted back to wearing blue jeans again.  Don't know exactly when that took place but it dawned on me this morning while doing laundry.  Went through a cowboy boots faze back in the late 60's for awhile too but they were too hard on my feet.  Took me a lot of time and pain before I was finally forced from my 'cool' cowboy boots to the much more comfortable footwear of running shoes and finally to the Rockport shoes I have been wearing now since the late 90's.  Never was a sandals and shorts guy so no problem shifting around in that area over the years.

LOTS OF AREA FOLKS LINED UP TO TOUR THE SHIPS

I never was a hat guy either.  Made it through about 62 years without having to stick any silly hats on my head.  But, that all changed when we began RVing!!  I am one of those fellows lucky or unlucky enough to have a full head of hair and it has a tendency to be curly, unmanageable and unruly.  When I wake up every morning it looks like a Chinese Road Grader with a serrated blade has run over my head in the night.  Remember Kramer from Seinfeld, ya, now you get the picture.  In humid weather my hair can frizzily stand up making me look like I stuck my finger in a light socket.  There is no known man made device in the world that can straighten out my hair in the morning except an abundance of water and shampoo.  Therein lies my daily morning shower routine.  Now, as any self respecting RV boon docker knows, it is not always possible to have a full blown shower every morning due to water conservation aboard the rig.  It is here where a chapeau rides to the rescue.  I can chose to forego the shower and step out of the rig looking the way I do and scare the hell out of all wildlife around including birds or I can festoon myself with some kind of hat cloaking device and keep the top of my head humanely hidden.  Well, no choice there so I have to be hatted.  If you meet me when we're traveling I will likely be adorned with either a baseball or cowboy hat and if you meet me around Bayfield anytime in the summer it will just be the top of my head el natural:))   Believe me, I much prefer a cowboy hat to the standard issue everybody where's em baseball cap.  It all depends on how bad my head looks as to which hat I choose each morning while traveling.  And, now ya know:))

THE ARMED FORCES EVEN HAD THE OFFICIAL RECRUITMENT BUS HERE TODAY AS WELL

No morning walk for the Bayfield Bums this morning because our all night rain continued to nearly noon.  Two of Canada's Royal Canadian Navy minesweepers had sailed into Goderich's port this morning so I Jeeped myself up to the harbour for a look see.  They were tied up alongside each other at the south end of the harbour.  I was a bit surprised at how small both the HMCS Shawinigan and Summerside were compared to the DDH Destroyer H.M.C.S. Saguenay I was on back in 66.  Shortly after the ships arrived around 8 a.m. a work crew from both ships headed into the center of Goderich to help clean up tornado damage from 3 weeks ago.  Goderich's Maitland cemetery was hard hit by that tornado as well with a lot of big trees down.   Part of the ship's work crew helped with clean up there too.  In particular was the Sailor's Memorial commemorating the sad loss of life during the great storm of 1913.   The naval ships will sail out of the Goderich Harbour Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

DSC_0010

Storm clouds rolled in while taking some photos of the ships and that led to a few nice photos later along Goderich’s long beach front and board walk.  I would have to say Goderich has one of the nicest beach fronts along this entire Lake Huron shoreline and I will have those pics in a following blog.

STORM CLOUDS OVER GODERICH ONTARIO

GROANERS CORNER:((  A man is skydiving off the coast of Florida, enjoying his free-fall. When he reaches the altitude where he must open his parachute, he pulls on the rip cord but nothing happens. "No problem," he says to himself, "I still have my emergency chute." So he pulls the emergency parachute, and once again, nothing happens. Now the man begins to panic. "What am I going to do?" he thinks, "It's curtains for me!" Just then he sees a sailor flying up from the earth toward him. He can't figure out where this man is coming from, or what he's doing, but he thinks to himself, "Maybe he can help me." When the man gets close enough to him, the skydiver cups his hands and shouts down, "Hey, do you know anything about parachutes?" The flying sailor replies, "No! Do you know anything about gas stoves?"
