DIDN’T MAKE MUCH SENSE BUT WE DID IT ANYWAY

DSC_6462

Despite having a nice morning going for us we only did about a third of the trail.  Kelly was tired & I was a hurtin.  That last line sounds like a country & western song title.  Maybe I oughta whup up a few words to go along with that.

DSC_0005

Feeling a little pooky about ourselves this morning I figured it was time to fire up the RV & at least get us out of the house for an RV fix.  I was needing a new Niger seed birdfeeder anyway so that gave us a purpose.  I know it doesn’t make much sense to drive a 10 cylinder RV 10 miles just to buy a birdfeeder when you have a perfectly good economical 4 cylinder car standing by.  In fact it didn’t make much sense at all but we did it anyway.  Some times, simply for pure psychological reasons it’s just best to do what you know you need to do regardless of cost.  And this morning just happened to be one of those doing it days.

JUST TAKING THE WINNIE WAGON FOR A DRIVE THIS MORNING LIFTED OUR SPIRITS

Kelly had a 50% off coupon for a couple of McDonalds’ large crispy chicken McWraps so figured that would justify our gas expense.  We needed some bananas anyway.  Even if we hadn’t had a destination this morning it was still a morale booster for us just to get out & do something different.   Nice to log a few RV miles watching our green Southwestern Ontario countryside roll by.  And, for Pheebs, it doesn’t matter what we are driving she’s just happy to be out for a ride in something going anywhere.

PHEEBS WAITS PATIENTLY FOR KELLY TO RETURN WITH SOME YUMMY McWRAPS

I have always been in awe of gifted individuals who are able to play any kind of musical instrument as well as the 14 year old girl plays guitar in this following video.  Maybe not everyone’s kind of music but it is the girls seemingly effortless relaxed & almost bored way in which she rocks this guitar that caught my attention.  Whether it be pianos, drums, horns, guitars, stringed instruments or whatever, I am always awe struck at how these people can do things like this.  I tried to learn Bass guitar one time back in the late 60’s.  Even took a couple lessons but aside from a few thumps, sproings, & thuds, all’s I was ever able to accomplish was a very annoying noise.   GUITAR SOLO (remember to skip the opening ad)

DSC_3857

Despite some dizziness this morning Kelly is holding her own.  Energy levels are still on the low side but not nearly as much coughing today.  And the pain in her chest is not as bad as a few days ago.  She did have a few lay down naps so Pheebs & I had to keep our play times down to a dull roar.  No throwing doggy toys up & down the hall.  Kelly has not resumed her prescribed meds & in her own words tonight she said, “not a bad day.”  We’ll see how things go with the Specialist at the Stratford Hospital Monday.

Hello to MARY TIPTON over there in our our Blog Followers box.  Thanks for stopping by Mary & welcome to the Bayfield Bunch.  Although a little under the weather at the moment I’m hoping we’ll be bouncing back soon & striking out on some new adventures this Fall.  Nice to have you riding along:))

Always seems to be a bit of a confusing quagmire when it comes to lengths of stays we Canadians are allowed in the U.S.  Varies from Province to Province as well.  Rules & regulations seem to ebb & flow.  Noticed the folks over at 5C'S QUE PASA had a post Saturday addressing some of those issues.  Are you eligible to winter in the USA?

GROANER’S CORNER:((  The doctor's office was crowded as usual, but the Doctor was moving at a snail's pace. After waiting two hours, an old man slowly stood up and started walking toward the door.  "Where are you going?" the receptionist called out.
"Well," he said, "I figured I'd go home and die a natural death."

I SAW A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT IN KELLY’S HEALTH TODAY:))

DSC_0001

ALWAYS A TREAT TO MEANDER THROUGH RURAL SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO

Nice to finally see clear sunny skies again with temperatures slowly on the rise. The past couple of days we have had our furnace running & the day before that we had the A/C on. It was 33F this morning when we got up & we did eventually get ourselves into the upper 40's. Always a bit colder here beside the lake but with today's sunshine it felt warm as long as one stayed out of the shade & wind.

MORE & MORE RURAL FARMS & PROPERTIES ARE INSTALLING LARGE BANKS OF SOLAR PANELS NOWADAYS

When Kelly walked into the living room Friday morning & said she was feeling better I immediately hauled out my laptop & began my post's first paragraph of the day. I went on to say Kelly had turned a corner, the medicine was working, & she was feeling better. By the time Friday night rolled around I had to totally scrap that whole paragraph & start over again. Despite her feeling better Friday morning her day went downhill after that & by bedtime she was sick to her stomach & didn’t take the last three 200mg prescribed Ibuprofens. Sickest I had ever seen her & we both suspected it was side effects. Kelly's body is not used to taking any kind of medication & today she refused to take any of her meds at all.

DSC_9528

She came across this disturbing definition of her problem today .  ((Since a pleural effusion is a symptom of another disease, the prognosis depends upon the underlying illness. Pleural effusions are never normal. While they may be associated with treatable illnesses, their presence suggests that the underlying disease has advanced enough to cause significant inflammation of the lining of the lung)).

PHEEBS & I CAME ACROSS A ROVING BAND OF WILD TURKEYS THIS MORNING

Off to a better start this morning but figured I had better hold off writing anything until the end of the day. Although feeling better again when she got up Kelly was not able to do the morning walk. I had two pain free hip days under my belt so Pheebs & I headed out the door & scampered our way around the whole trail. It was a mistake & I paid for it the rest of the day. Luckily I have a good supply of extra strength Tylenol here.  And luckily I have another good friend to help me through the days.  My cane has become my right hand best Buddy.  I couldn’t remember where or when we had picked up this cane but Kelly said she bought it at a Thrift store in Borrego Springs California about 4 years ago when she had twisted her ankle on one of our hikes.  Sure has come in handy for me this past while.

DSC_0009

I was low on peanut butter so figured that was as good an excuse as any for Pheebs & I to hop in the Jeep & head off through the countryside to Goderich. Walmart has the honey-peanut butter I like so that is where we headed straight-away. But ‘Oh Dear’ I hadn't realized I was in spending mode. By the time I got out of Walmart I not only had 1 jar of peanut butter, I had 2……along with 4 quarts of skim milk, 2 pkg’s of flat bread, a tub of vanilla yogurt, 3 jugs of cranberry-grape juice, a Kielbasa sausage, 2 bags of birdseed, 1 pkg of brown sugar, a Hummingbird feeder, a jug of Oriole pre-mixed bird juice, 2 bags of oatmeal & a new hat. To console myself after exiting the store Pheebs & I slid through a Tim Horton's drive-thru & grabbed ourselves a sausage breakfast biscuit, a coffee, & a carrot muffin. Took the long way home & tried to enjoy the soothing rural countryside while trying to recoup & justify my spending spree.

LOVE THE SMELL OF NEW MOWN GRASS

I knew Kelly was feeling a bit better as soon as I got home. The vacuum cleaner was sitting out & she was on her third load of laundry.  With a few rests in between she finished the dishes I had started, gathered a few things for the Goodwill store together & I was heartened to see her in the front yard this afternoon snipping off some lilac blooms for a kitchen table bouquet.  Her cough & chest pain has lessened & she is finally able to lean forward without too much discomfort.  Sure hope we can get to the bottom of this when we see the Specialist on Monday.  As Kelly said at supper tonight, “I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic”.

NEW HUMMING BIRD & ORIOLE FEEDER IS UP SO ALL WE NEED NOW IS SOME HUMMER’S & OREOS:))

I dragged my sore hip up & down a ladder this afternoon & put our 'Bayfield Bunch' logo on Winnie's back window. Also managed to affix our flag pole holder to the rigs roof ladder.  That meant a few more trips up & down the ladder.   Hung up the Hummingbird feeder, (more ladder work) burned some trash, started up the motorcycle & let it run for a bit. All that done I took a couple Tylenol's & crashed in my chair for pretty much the rest of the day. Kelly remarked the other day that she felt sorry for Pheebs because for her it has been like living with sedentary Gramma & Granpa instead of usually active Mom & Dad.

MONTANA MIKE got himself an old tractor. It's orange with gray fenders, has a steel seat & I think it's a Ford. I've never driven a tractor, sat on a few, but never got to turn a key, slip it in gear, & drive one away. I've always had a small boy desire to have my very own tractor. There's a nice green John Deere sitting in a field by the road not far from us at the moment. Has a bucket on the front too. And a 'For Sale' sign on it. If I was a really rich guy I would go buy it & bring it home. First thing I would do is put something in the bucket & go drive around a bit looking at whatever it was I had in the bucket. And I'd look for some dirt or gravel to plow, maybe try digging a hole. Maybe put the bucket high in the air, climb up & stand in the bucket to see where I was, if in fact I was anywhere at all. I would enjoy the engine's chugging diesel tractor sound. I'd throw on my old straw hat & with one hand on the steering wheel & the other hand on the fender I'd head out into a big open field & drive around for hours plowing with my imaginary plow on the back. Maybe I'd do a little disking & rolling as well. Plant me some seeds too.  Real seeds.   Yep, I’ve always had a secret desire to have my very own tractor alright..............

DSC_0007Oh, and about that new Walmart hat of mine. Label says it’s made of paper. Didn’t know that till I got home & read the label of course. Guess I had better stay out of the rain or I could end up looking like a paper mache head. I’ve never been a big baseball hat fan & the blue ‘Las Vegas’ one I have been wearing forever was just getting a little ‘to old hat’ so to speak. Wanted something light & airy for the summer that had a bit of style to it. Not that I’m a stylish guy by any means but figured just about anything would be better than my old blue sweat stained baseball cap. For not ever have being a hat guy decades ago I sure have worn a lot of hats these past 6 or 7 years.  I have written a few posts now & again as to why I have taken to wearing hats but to mention all that stuff here again would just be, well you know……………..old hat:))

ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE KELLY HAS A DIFFICULT TIME DEALING WITH HER MEDICINE’S SIDE EFFECTS

DSC_3821
OUR FRONT YARD FROG POND REALLY DOES HAVE FROGS IN IT
It appears Kelly's fever may have broke in the night. She woke up around 1 a.m. & her pyjamas were soaked in sweat. This morning she walked into the living room saying she was feeling a bIt better. Her breathing was easier & the pains in her chest weren't as bad. But after a short morning walk it also became clear she still had a ways to go before being out of the woods with all this. She still has her rasping cough & energy levels are remaining very low.  She was due to work the week-end & I think this is the first time in nearly 10 years she couldn’t make it.  Resting in her chair & on her bed she spent the whole day inside.  At the time of publishing this tonight she is not feeling well at all but we think it may be the side effects of the medicine she is taking.  I think these kinds of things always feel worse at night too.  Thanks to readers for all their best wishes these past weeks & I'm hopeful we’ll see Kelly’s health begin to turn around over the next few days.

Being long distance property owners has it's problems. It's been nearly 2 months since leaving our Winter home base in Congress Arizona & because of the 2300 mile distance we just can't pop into the Jeep or Motorhome & slip on down to check on things. A neighbor kind of keeps an eye on our place & brings his sheep over to graze & keep the grass down but he's not an avid computer or camera person so it's rare to hear from him or see any photos of our property. The local electric company has been installing new meters in the area & we had already left by the time they installed ours. Apparently the meters are larger & the door panel covering our meter on the front of the house was just left laying on the porch by the electric company crew. Enter our good RVing friends Mike & Pat McFall who spend their winter months at NORTH RANCH just a few miles away. Pat & Mike have voluntarily dropped by our place from time to time to check on things & send us pictures of how our house & property are looking. Mike even went out of his way to put the door panel box back on our electric meter. So nice to have trusted friends who voluntarily go out of their way to help. A big thank you to Pat & Mike who are leaving within a day to begin the long drive back to Custer up there in the Black Hills of South Dakota where they will spend the summer months at their digs there before returning to North Ranch south of Congress in the Fall.

With a drive to a Clinton Accountant & a Seaforth Credit Union earlier this week Kelly was able to tie up the last few remaining loose ends of Uncle Harry's estate. A few small tax matters remaining but basically the estate has been settled. Aunt Jean was a big help when she was here last month so everything went very smoothly. And of course a big thank you to Uncle Harry himself for setting things up so well years ago before passing away last month. A few weeks ago I came across a photo of Uncle Harry I took about 4 years ago when he was living in an assisted living facility in Woodstock Ontario. I well remember taking the photo that day & had myself a little chuckle when I took it. Harry was always quite a dapper ladies man & when stationed in England during the WW2 I am sure he had girlfriends on both sides of the Atlantic. Not only an avid pool player, Uncle Harry was also a very serious card player & if you wanted to play cards with him you had better have some money in your pocket. Harry always played to win & losing was never an option. I couldn't help but think of this when I took the photo. In the photo below he is playing pool with a lady staff member at the Park Place care facility about 4 years ago.   Being is his usual charming self I’m sure Uncle Harry very much appreciated his pretty opponent whether she could play pool or not.  At the Ritz Villa where Harry passed away last month one of the Senior staff members told us Harry was always very well liked by the staff because he was always a Gentleman & treated all his care givers with respect.

Came across a line on GYPSY'S latest post left by commenter Dorrie Anne of DORRIE ANNE'S ADVENTURES. The last line in her comment jumped out at me & read, "Write down your thoughts. It really does help to get them out of your brain where you can see them"……. I hadn't thought of that before but it makes a whole lot of sense & goes a long way into explaining why writing is a form of feeling good for a lot of folks like myself. Seems one carries a jumble load of thoughts in one's brain which can easily become lost amidst the swirl of confusion reigning there at times. Sitting down & sorting through that swirling fog one is often able to pull something meaningful out of one’s head & transfer it to the written word on a computer screen. Or a piece of paper if you will.  Sitting looking at the unscrambled words one can formulate a clearer perspective of where one is & what one is actually thinking. Kind of like separating the wheat from the chaff. The wheat appears much clearer to one's reading eye than the swirling chaff blowing around in one's head. I think Dorrie Anne hit the nail on the head when she said in part, 'get them out of your brain where you can see them'. Yep, works for me alright. Well sometimes it does anyway.  Other times I just end up wandering around aimlessly in my own mind looking for a couple words to stick together………………….

7 HOURS IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT & KELLY COMES HOME WITH A NEW DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

IMG_0243
THIS PHOTO KIND OF SUMS UP THE WAITING FRUSTRATION
I wasn't able to make it all the way around the trail Wednesday morning but Kelly & Pheebs did. By the time they made it back to the house Kelly was worn out & the rest of her morning was spent laying on her bed & stretched out in her recliner. It was about 1:30 in the afternoon when Kelly came outside to where I was working on a little project & told me she felt sick & maybe it was time to head for the emergency room at the hospital. Minutes later we were on the road.
IMG_0240
PHEEBS LOOKS LONGINGLY DOWN THE TRAIL BUT WE JUST COULDN’T MAKE IT THIS MORNING
The emergency room at the Goderich hospital was busy as we checked in. Took our seats & waited our turn which we knew was going to be quite awhile. Little did we know it would be after 9 p.m before we left that hospital for a second time. The first time came only an hour after we had been there when Kelly didn't want to wait any longer & just wanted to go home. She got up & informed the emergency desk lady she would come back the next day & headed out the door for the Jeep. Sitting in the parking lot across the road with my hand on the ignition key we had ourselves a 'little discussion'. Minutes later we were back inside only to learn Kelly's name had just been called while we were outside.
IMG_0242
SPENT THE FIRST HOUR OF OUR WAIT IN THE MAIN WAITING ROOM
The check-in lady quickly slipped away from her desk for a minute, returned & told us to come right in. Kelly's blood pressure was checked & it was determined she still had a low grade fever. Questions were asked & we were immediately taken to one of the small examining rooms inside of the emergency room complex. Here, Kelly was at least able to lay down. It was just after 3 p.m. & we sat quietly in that room for the next 4 hours before things began to happen. It was a very, very, long wait. We both felt bad for Pheebe because her supper time is usually around 4:30 in the afternoon & it was now approaching 7. When we left home in the early afternoon we had no idea it was going to be dark out by the time we got home so we hadn't left any lights on & we knew the little Pheebs would be sitting there alone in the dark.
---
Sometime between 6 & 7 Kelly was given an EKG test.  She was then wheeled out & taken for a chest X-ray. At last something was happening. That chest X-ray turned out to be the beginning of some flurried activity. A young Doctor in training with the Emergency room Doctor first came in carrying a clipboard & more medical questions. She was very pleasant & we had a feeling she was sincerely concerned. She left the room & conferred with her Doctor. Minutes later the emergency room Doctor entered & things began to happen. I recall at one point we had 5 medical people in the room. We liked Doctor SAMUEL APPAVOO right off the bat because we could tell he was a man of knowledgeable action, had a sense of humor, a caring way, & was determined to find out what was going on in Kelly's chest.
IMG_0244
IV APPARATUS ALREADY IN KELLY’S ARM AS SHE AWAITS HER CAT SCAN
Vials of blood were immediately drawn & Doctor Appavoo did an ULTRA-SOUND with a small portable device he had with him. Obviously not satisfied with the results he returned a few minutes later wheeling in a much larger Ultra-Sound machine. Fluid around Kelly's heart was detected & he also told us the X-ray had revealed a widening of the problem compared to an X-ray taken a month ago. Kelly's suspected Pericarditis had grown from mild to moderate. Possibly a slightly enlarged heart as well. We had mentioned VALLEY FEVER to the trainee Doctor but she had never heard of Valley Fever. But Doctor Appavoo sure had. Turns out his Mother lives in Green Valley, Arizona. Blood was drawn a second time to be specifically tested for Valley Fever.
---
Having seen fluid around the heart Kelly was immediately prepped for a CT Scan. An intravenous device was placed in her arm & she was wheeled out of the room, & down the hall for a scan in the big round donut machine. Twenty minutes later she was back where a second more in depth blood pressure test was conducted by a specialist. It was cold in the examining room & a nurse brought in a warm blanket for Kelly.
IMG_0246
THE LARGER ULTRA-SOUND MACHINE WHERE WE COULD SEE INSIDE KELLY’S CHEST
It was sometime after 8 when the results from the CT Scan came in & Doctor Appavoo re-diagnosed Kelly's condition as a PLEURAL EFFUSION.   It had been Doctor Appavoo’s intention right from the start to determine if Kelly's condition was life threatening. The CT Scan showed Kelly's THORAX containing the heart & lungs to be OK & that put into action the Doctor's plan of treatment. It also meant Kelly would not have to be taken by ambulance to London or Stratford. Doctor Appavoo also contacted the Stratford Hospital & tracked down an Internist to set up an appointment for Kelly as soon as possible. Ironically when we arrived home later Thursday night there was a phone message from Kelly's Doctor saying they had finally set up an appointment with a Stratford Internist as well.
IMG_0247
THE CLOCK ON THE WALL IN THESE PHOTOS KIND OF TELLS THE TALE
Although greatly discouraged by the long waiting time at the hospital we were very pleased by the caring staff & especially the 'take charge' Doctor. Today Kelly started on a drug called COLCHICINE as well as large doses of Ibuprofen.  Also a third pill prescription to protect her stomach lining.  Doctor Appavoo’s prognosis for Kelly's health improving is good & he feels a follow up with an Internist will be able to determine the initial cause of the problem, is anything else going on, & further tests if necessary. (* see bottom of post) At last we are at the root of Kelly's condition which has had her down since late March.  Originally thought to be a pulmonary embolism, then Pericarditis we are hoping we now have the correct diagnosis.  And we can't put all the blame on Canada's health care system for the long appointment waits. We have to share that blame with ourselves for not being more assertive, more forward, & more forceful with our concerns. But hey, we're Canadians eh:))
DSC_0074
By late afternoon we were getting hungry sitting in that waiting room so figured as soon as we got out of there we would head for SWISS CHALET for supper.  By 8 Thursday night Kelly had lost her appetite & we realized it was way too late to be eating a big supper anyway.  Luckily for me I remembered where the cafeteria was in the hospital from my Town & Country mobility van driving days.  Knew it would be closed but maybe, just maybe……..  Headed myself down the hall to the darkened room.  Door was open & there in the corner sat a large food machine.  I stealthily entered & made my way up to the side of the huge whirring behemoth.  Peering around the corner I spied a lone turkey sandwich hiding within.  With a quick & calculated thrust into my pocket I came up with the right coinage & slipped it into the money slot before the dozing machine even realized I was there.  Pressed # 7, slid open a plastic door, firmly snagged the Turkey before it had time to bolt & quickly exited the area with prize in hand, soon to be prize in tummy.   And the turkey sandwich even had a sprig of lettuce & a slab of cheese on it.  Mission accomplished:))
---
We sure had a big happy welcome home Wednesday night. Pheebs had been waiting patiently in the dark sitting at the living room window. Soon as we got out of the Jeep we could hear her racing around inside knocking all our furniture asunder with her furiously wagging tail. It had been a looooooong 7+ hours for her. So nice to be home with the Pheebs & so nice to be home with a diagnosis & treatment plan for Kelly under our belts. But OMG can you just imagine what this is going to do to our travel health insurance this Fall.   And they don’t even know about my hip problem yet.  We might have to sell the Winnie Wagon just to pay for the travel insurance.  That didn’t make much sense did it.  But, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Right now we are just happy to be most of the way across a medical bridge that had been standing in our way since the end of last March.

BEST PALS:))
And it wasn’t until after Kelly looked up DR. APPAVOO'S PROFILE today that we realized how truly fortunate she was Wednesday to have been seen by the right Doctor. A shift change had occurred at the hospital while we were waiting & the hospital’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Appavoo was the man who walked into the examining room & got the ball rolling:))

A quick update on today…… A cold drizzle made for a short morning walk.  Kelly was also feeling tiredly sick & I didn’t want to agitate my hip so it was just to the end of the Goose pond & back for both of us.  Soon as the Bayfield Pharmacy opened, Kelly was there to fill her prescriptions & get started on her Pleural Effusion treatment plan.  She also stopped in to her Doctor’s office & the earliest Internist appointment time they had set up was mid July & that was not acceptable.  Fortunately Dr. Appavoo’s call Wednesday night had produced results & with an affirmation phone call from Kelly to Stratford today Kelly has an appointment with Internist Dr. Tom Haffner at the Stratford General Hospital this coming Monday at 1:30 p.m.  We will be there:))  At the time of publishing this tonight at 8 p.m. Kelly was still feeling pretty rough with coughing & trouble breathing.  Hopefully by morning the medications will have begun turning things around for her………………………………

ALWAYS AMAZES ME HOW A PHARMACIST CAN READ A DOCTOR’S SCRATCHINGS
IMG_0249Soon as Kelly returned from the Pharmacy this morning she wolfed down her handful of pills & headed for her recliner.  Couldn’t stretch out on her bed because of the pain in her chest.   It wasn’t even 9:30 yet & she was already exhausted for the day.  Certainly not normal for the Energizer Bunny girl.  My hip was feeling good so I was able to whack some weeds outside plus do a little grass trimming for a neighbor before my Whacker’s battery ran out of juice.  All 4 spare batteries were juiced out as well.  I was also able to take Pheebs for a short walk in the afternoon & I finished the day free of any pain in my hip.

Upon my return from the movies Tuesday night I noticed some concern in my Shout Box about RV SUE'S site being down & suddenly not accessible. Folks were concerned as to Sue's well being. Also in the Shout Box was a note from Sue herself which stated, RVSueI appreciate your concern. I've got an email in to WordPress for clarification. I suspect WP wants me to self-host which I've meant to do. So I signed up with Hostgator. I hope to have my blog up and running again soon”!------ Thanks for clearing that one up Sue. Not to sure what all that hosting stuff is about but it's good to see RV Sue is alive & well with a solution to her blogsite problem well under way. See, readers & fellow Bloggers do care:))

KELLY, MAX & I AT THE OLD FARM HOUSE WITH OUR 1984 VIRAGO 750 MOTORCYCLE … 2001
Right from the opening scenes of the Star Trek Into Darkness movie Tuesday night I & had a feeling it was not going to be the type of movie I had hoped it would be. And it wasn't. Hollywood has a standard formula for it's movies & knows what will bring hordes of young movie goers flooding to the box office. Simply pack as much violence into a movie as is possible & people will fill theater seats. Load the movie with fiery explosions, big noise, numerous tacky fight scenes, lots of guns whether they be bullets or lasers, & soap opera dialogue. For the masses it's a winning combination every time. People love this stuff & Hollywood just keeps turning up the schlock meter & laughing all the way to the bank. Might be a very long time before I take myself out to the movies again. I did think the actors playing Spock & Scotty did a very admirable job with their characters & of course I did like the Star Trek theme at the end as the credits came down. Best part of the night was getting myself out of the house for 3 hours & the nice moonlit drive home though the countryside after the movie. And was I thinking about the movie on the way home? Nope, I was just driving along thinking how much I really liked my little Jeep Wrangler:))

* Possible further tests…
Thoracentesis should be performed in all patients with more than a minimal pleural effusion unless clinically evident heart failure is present.
Thoracentesis is a procedure to remove fluid from the space between the lungs and the chest wall called the pleural space. It is done with a needle camera (and sometimes a plastic catheter) inserted through the chest wall. Ultrasound pictures are often used to guide the placement of the needle. This pleural fluid may be sent to a lab to determine what may be causing the fluid to build up in the pleural space.
Normally only a small amount of pleural fluid is present in the pleural space. A build-up of excess pleural fluid (pleural effusion camera) may be caused by many conditions, such as infection, inflammation, heart failure, or cancer. If a large amount of fluid is present, it may be hard to breathe. Fluid inside the pleural space may be found during a physical examination and is usually confirmed by a chest X-ray.
Why It Is Done
Thoracentesis may be done to:
  • Find the cause of excess pleural fluid (pleural effusion).
  • Relieve shortness of breath and pain caused by a pleural effusion.
Additional Info…
The first step in the evaluation of patients with pleural effusion is to determine whether the effusion is a transudate or an exudate. An exudative effusion is diagnosed if the patient meets Light’s criteria. The serum to pleural fluid protein or albumin gradients may help better categorize the occasional transudate misidentified as an exudate by these criteria. If the patient has a transudative effusion, therapy should be directed toward the underlying heart failure or cirrhosis. If the patient has an exudative effusion, attempts should be made to define the etiology. Pneumonia, cancer, tuberculosis, and pulmonary embolism account for most exudative effusions. Many pleural fluid tests are useful in the differential diagnosis of exudative effusions. Other tests helpful for diagnosis include helical computed tomography and thoracoscopy.
Pleural effusion develops when morel fluid enters the pleural space than is removed. Potential mechanisms of fluid increased interstitial fluid in the lungs secondary to increased pulmonary capillary pressure (i.e., heart failure) or permeability (i.e., pneumonia); decreased intrapleural pressure (i.e., atelectasis); decreased plasma oncotic pressure (i.e., hypoalbuminemia); increased pleural membrane permeability and obstructed lymphatic flow (e.g., pleural malignancy or infection); diaphragmatic defects (i.e., hepatic hydrothorax); and thoracic duct rupture (i.e., chylothorax). Although many different diseases may cause pleural effusion, the most common causes in adults are heart failure, malignancy, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and pulmonary embolism, whereas pneumonia is the leading etiology in children.1,2

‘SOMETIME’ WITHIN THE MONTH

LILACS OVER OUR ARBOR

Concerned, Kelly phoned her Doctor’s office this morning to find out how soon it will be before she can get in to see the Specialist in Stratford. She told the lady her condition is not improving. The Doctor’s office told her she should have the appointment 'sometime within the month'. Having not needed any real medical assistance over the years we had only heard about Canada's long medical waits & never paid much attention to it. We are both finding out first hand right now about those 'waiting lists'.  My hip X-ray was well over a month ago & I’m still waiting for an appointment to be set up to discuss my options………….My kidney stone situation was taken care of pretty quickly last year but that was a different set of circumstances. The hospital in Tucson Arizona faxed my Doctor their test results last winter well ahead of our arrival home in the Spring. By the time we made it to Ontario a series of further tests & appointments had already been set up by my Nurse Practitioner & I moved through the system fairly quickly culminating in the laser procedure on May 28th. I suspect the size of the large kidney stone & where it was lodged helped speed things up as well.

HEAVY OVERNIGHT RAINS PULLED DOWN A LILAC BRANCH, TOPPLED MY WOOD PILE, & BROUGHT A BIRD’S NEST TO THE GROUND
Years before we were the Bayfield Bunch we were the 'Dreamweaver's'. No idea what made me think of that this morning but I recall back in the late nineties living on the old farm near Fullarton Ontario we decided on that name after buying an old & aging 17' Class C Dodge Centurion. It was our first RV. We were very new to computers in those days but I do remember putting some kind of site together even then. It was probably 5 years or so before we even knew about Blogger. In fact I'm not even sure if we knew what a blog was back then. I remember having a few pics on the site along with some kind of blurb. I don't think anyone ever saw it except Kelly & I but at least it was a start to something we knew nothing about. Those were exciting days. But I did have a slight inkling even back then maybe something just might come out of all that darn fancy new space age computer stuff. Digital photography was new to me & had re-newed my lapsed interest in a 35mm photography hobby I had dropped years before.   Traveling has always been in my blood, & another long lost interest from years gone by made it's presence known again. Writing:)) Kelly's son made up some lettering for us & you can see our Dreamweaver name & website on the back of our rig in the photos below. The whole RVing thing was new to us but we were eager to learn & get out there & be a part of that daring lifestyle. We began weaving our dreams into a plan & that is how our first name came about. 'Dreamweavers'. It wasn't long before large pieces of the giant jigsaw puzzle started falling into place & we began to realize how to tie all our interests of Traveling, Photography, RVing, & Writing together. Yes indeed, those were exciting days. You can see how young we looked back then & our dear boy Max was only a year or two old.   NoteNoteTHOSE WERE THE DAYSNoteNote

I didn't do our morning walk. Hip felt fine when I woke up & I didn't want to agitate it with a long walk & end up like I did on Monday. Kelly & Pheebs started out on the trail but had to turn back because Kelly said Pheebs kept stopping to look back for me. She just wasn't into a walk this morning without Dad coming along. What a truly sweet little doggy girl she is. While watching late night TV she lays on the couch near my chair & when I get up to go to bed she comes with me & lays either on or beside my bed. If I get up in the night & relocate back to the living room she comes right along with me & will often jump up on my lap & we'll both fall asleep again. Yes, what a truly sweet little doggy girl she is.

SITTING AT OUR SUNROOM COMPUTER WE CAN LOOK RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW AT OUR LILAC TREE >>>

Dell from PRETTY THINGS, ODD THINGS, JUST THINGS joined the Bunch as our latest Blog Followers.  It may be a slow growing list we have but at least it is still growing & we here at the Bayfield Bunch welcome you aboard Dell:))

A shorter post tonight because I am taking myself out to the movies.  Haven’t seen a movie in years but I’m going to take a chance on the new ‘Star Trek - Into Darkness’ movie.  Read & heard some good things about it so we’ll see.  I am a very critical movie goer & it’s generally pretty hard for me to be impressed or wowed by anything up there on that big silver screen anymore.
