A SHORT POST

DSC_6004

Couldn’t seem to get my mind in writing mode tonight folks………………

DSC_6008GROANER’S CORNER:  An important and very well publicized murder trial was soon to begin. In preparation for the trial, the tiresome jury selection process took place, each side hotly contesting and dismissing potential jurors.  One prospective juror, Dan O'Keefe, was called for his question session.  He was asked, "Property holder?"  Dan replied, "Yes, I am, Your Honor."  Then he was asked, "Married or single?"  Dan responded, "Married for twenty years, Your Honor."  Then the judge asked, "Ever formed or expressed an opinion?"  Dan stated with certainty, "Not in twenty years, Your Honor."

OUR SUMMER SEASON’S LAST LONG WEEK-END BEFORE CHRISTMAS

DSC_5933

IT’S AUTUMN AT OUR HOUSE

I watched the remnants of Hurricane Nate heading north up through the States and thought if it doesn't turn or peter out soon it's going to dump a bunch of rain on us.  And dump a bunch of rain it did overnight before moving off to the northeast.  Third of a wheelbarrow to be exact.  Good thing it moved through quickly because Kelly's daughter Rebecca and her daughter little Ella were a part of Kitchener's annual televised Kitchener-Waterloo Octoberfest parade and Kelly was hoping to catch site of them riding on the 53rd float with a Canada 150th Birthday theme.  As it later turned out when the float went past the camera Rebecca and Ella were unseen on the other side.

Turned out to be one of those low energy days where I couldn’t seem to get my Jeep ride Mojo working.  Nice mixture of Sun and cloud but I couldn’t seem to tap into it.  Short jaunt to Goderich and back for Pheebs and I and we were home shortly after 10.

Always lots of outside things to be taken care of when transitioning from Autumn to Winter.  All liquids like paints and cleaners have to be boxed up and moved inside so they don’t freeze and burst their containers.  Clay flowerpots to be emptied and dried in the Sun so no moisture is left in them to freeze and crack the pot.  They then are stored in the shed.  Lots of stuff to be busy with and keep a feller’s mind off things.

This annual long Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada typically signals the end of the summer season as people and merchants now begin gearing up for Christmas.  Our nice weather may hold on for a few more weeks or maybe until the end of the month if we’re lucky.  For me the worst month of the year is coming up.  November is notorious for it’s cold damp temperatures, shorter dark days, rain, snow, and winds, etc.  November can be a very depressing month even for the optimistic positive thinker types……………

Sat here for the longest time trying to think of something for a last paragraph but nothing came.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  It was graduation night at Cox High School and they were about halfway through the ceremony when the principal said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a problem, Bubba is a few credits short and won't be able to graduate tonight."   Well now, Bubba was the starting right guard for Cox's football team, and when the student body heard that he wasn't going to graduate, they all jumped up and started to chant, "Give Bubba another chance, give Bubba another chance!"  Pat Dye and the principal had a quick conference and afterward, the principal announced that they have decided to give Bubba another chance. Bubba is told that he will be given a "One Question" math test and if he passes, he can graduate.  The question is, "What is 2 plus 3?" Bubba thinks for about 20 minutes and finally says, "I have it! The answer is 5!"  There is complete silence in the auditorium for a couple of seconds and then the entire Cox High School football team jumps up and begins to chant, "Give Bubba one more chance. Give Bubba one more Chance!"

A doctor examining a woman who had been rushed to the Emergency Room, took the husband aside, and said, "I don't like the looks of your wife at all.”  "Me neither doc," said the husband. "But she's a great cook and really good with the kids."

KELLY HEADS FOR CAMBRIDGE, PHEEBS AND AL HEAD FOR THE MARSH, AND A GOOD DAY WAS HAD BY ALL

DSC_5902

I became a little worried this morning when our clock showed 7:15 a.m. and early bird Kelly wasn’t up yet.  Pheebs and I tippy-toed down the hall and tapped on her door just as she was getting up.  Said she hadn’t slept well with all the wind and rain in the night.  Guess I must have medicated myself right through all of that.  I do take half a sleeping pill every night.  If I didn’t I would be up about 3 a.m. wandering around like a Zombie

I’M GUESSING THAT IS A CROP OF WINTER WHEAT WHICH WILL BE READY FOR CUTTING LATE NEXT SPRING

Seeings how it was our Canadian Thanksgiving week-end Kelly’s youngest Son Ben and wife Bri decided to host a Thanksgiving dinner today in ??  Kelly thought it would be a good time to see a bunch of her family so she headed off with 3 planned stops in Kitchener, Cambridge, and Hespeler.

It was under a heavy cloud cover Pheebs and I headed out on our morning jaunt.  Soon as we cleared the forest I checked my rear view mirror and was happy to see skies clearing out over the lake.  Sun splashes soon began appearing and by noon we were under mainly clear blue skies again.

WORKING ON THOSE BEAN FIELDS

DSC_5894DSC_5920

Our travels first took us over to the Hullett Marsh where we stopped at our favorite spot for a short while.  With shotguns destroying an otherwise peaceful Sunday morning we didn’t stay long so off we went.  I’m so glad I do my hunting with a quiet camera whereupon there is no pain and suffering and nothing gets hurt!!

Noticed a few more hints of Autumn color along some bush lines but things are still pretty much green except for corn fields which are quickly ripening to shades of golden brown.  Lots of bean harvesters parked in fields ready to resume the bean harvest this coming week.

We were home by 11:30 and what a marvelous Autumn day it turned out to be again.  Still on the warm side for this time of year with today rounding out in the high 60’s.  Transported 3 more frogs to the big pond, took Pheebs for a walk around the trail and raked up a bunch of pine needles.  Kelly made it safely home about 8 o’clock.

GREAT BLUE HERON

DSC_5851DSC_5910

A big week coming up for Kelly and I and by the end of it we should know where we will be spending our winter.  Either right here at home or somewhere in the great American Southwest again.  I’m trying to keep it out of my mind and not think about things for right now.  It’s like we are in suspended animation hanging in the air waiting to know which way we will be destined to go.

DSC_5973

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A new bride was a bit embarrassed to be known as a honeymooner. So when she and her husband pulled up to the hotel, she asked him if there was any way that they could make it appear that they had been married a long time.  He responded, "Sure. You carry the suitcases!"

Two red heads were flying to Miami from Cleveland. Fifteen minutes into the flight, the captain announced "One of the engines has failed and the flight will be an hour longer. But don't worry we have three engines left".  Thirty minutes later, the captain announced "One more engine has failed and the flight will be two hours longer. But don't worry we have two engines left".  An hour later the captain announced "One more engine has failed and the flight will be three hours longer. But don't worry we have one engine left". One red head looked at the other the other red head and said "If we lose one more engine, we'll be up here all day"
