Thursday afternoon Kelly sent an email with a 'house for sale' address she had just seen on her Real Estate site. Only a couple miles south of Bayfield so Pheebs and I headed out first thing this morning to scout it out. I was encouraged right away by what I saw. House, property, and location were all great and within walking distance of Lake Huron. It definitely had the 'WOW' factor for me. Headed home a short time later and by the time I got there my creative imagination had kicked into gear and figured out where a nice decorative wooden fence could go and what it would look like with flowerbed landscaping. My mind already knew where to plant a bunch of cedar trees as well. I quickly brought the site up on the computer to read a bit more about it and 'AWWWW NUTS' I had been looking at the wrong place:(((((((

I STOPPED AND TOOK A COUPLE PICTURES OF THE 'WRONG HOUSE' |
Well at least my 'house for sale' ker-fuffle told me one thing. It is still possible for me to get excited about something. Yes, yes, I know.....we have a nice place where we are and I do agree with that. I just wish we could simply pick our place up and drop it into a different location with no noisy neighbors. Like when we are boondocking in the Southwest and find those quiet people free spots with a gentle desert wind whispering through the Saguaros.

Bright sunny day and with totally enjoyable cooler 55F temps here by the lake I was again energized to continue the Jeep clean-up. With the outside now done that takes another item off my 'to-do' list.

THIS AFTERNOON'S FRONT YARD POND AREA |
Pheebs and I did get out for a walk back in the pine forest but the further I walked the sadder it was. The ongoing destruction of the forest for it's pine lumber is depressing to see and for me it was doubly so when I came across my favorite young 40 foot Maple tree and found it's trunk had been so mutilated by logging machinery it is not likely to survive. For nearly 17 years I have observed this tree's growth often stopping for a rest beside it. Many thoughts have passed between this tree and I over the years and the sadness in my heart today was very real. This tree had become like a dependable old friend, always there waiting for me to stop by and say hello. I'm afraid the next time I walk there I may find my old friend lying on the forest floor having been needlessly cut down because it stood in the way of the loggers. $$$$

SAD TO SEE A FOREST BEING MUTILATED AND MY FAVORITE TREE BELOW IS NOT LIKELY TO SURVIVE WITH THAT MUCH BARK OFF THE SIDES AND AROUND THE BACK |
GROANER'S CORNER:(( Donna's husband Mike died suddenly one day. Donna was taking care of the funeral arrangements with the undertaker when she was asked how she wanted Mike's obituary to read. Donna asked the undertaker, "How much does an obituary cost?" The undertaker replied, "One dollar per word." Donna then said, "I want the obituary to read - MIKE IS DEAD." The under taker was an old fishing buddy of Mike's and he was a little disturbed by such a curt obituary, so he offered, "I'll make you a special deal since I knew Mike so well. I'll pay for half of the obituary out of my own pocket." Donna's face lit up and she replied, "Great. I want it to read - MIKE IS DEAD, BOAT FOR SALE."

Q: What do you call someone who can’t stick with a diet?
A: A desserter.

Sorry about your maple tree. I've had similar reactions to logging!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there is some kind of wrap that could be put around the tree? 'Course it isn't your property, so maybe you aren't allowed. We had an oak tree delivered and planted in our back yard about five years ago. Afterward we discovered a main part broken at the top. We got out the ladder and bandaged it with masking tape. Growing fine today. I know how you feel about the forest. Heartache.
ReplyDeleteIt is really hard to find a pristine forest that man hasn't molested. Back when I was a kid, I used to roam the forests all day long.
ReplyDeleteHuman waste to nature all for the mighty buck. That is truely sad Al.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear about your favorite Maple tree. We lost many stately Ponderosa pines about 16 years ago due to bark beetle infestation and it was just devastating.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you looked at the wrong house, that one sure looked nice. It is sad to see a n ice friendly tree go to the wayside.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your feeling of picking up your house and moving it to a new location. I feel the same about my present home.
