OH NO, NOT MORE COW PICTURES!!

HEADING HOME FROM GODERICH ON SATURDAY, I CAME ACROSS THE SAME HERD OF CATTLE I SAW GOING TO GODERICH
I didn't take any photos on this wet and rainy day, but I do have a few photos left over from yesterday.  Oh no, not more cow pictures again!!  Yup, cows:)) ...... Rain came in the night and stayed all day today.  At least we were on the mild side for this time of year at 64°F.  I couldn't help but think back to our RV travel days years ago, when we often left the third Saturday of October.  That would have been yesterday.  Depending on which one of the two routes we generally took, by this time Sunday evening, we would likely be overnighting somewhere well south of Effingham, Illinois, maybe at Ferne Clyffe State Park, if we had chosen the southwest route through Indianapolis, Illinois.  Or, had we decided on the western route through Chicago, we might have been somewhere south of Lincoln, Nebraska, maybe at the Airport Park Campground at the south end of Concordia, Kansas.  I always called this place 'Army Tank Park' because of a few army tanks on display there.  And, had it been this weekend we were traveling, we would have been driving through a lot of rain.  My aim, after leaving Bayfield each year, was to get as far south and as far west as we could as soon as we could.  Mainly because of unpredictable weather, and also because we just wanted to get to what we considered our beloved second home, the Great American Southwest. Oh, how my eyes strained each year as I anxiously scanned the distant western horizon through the motorhome's windshield for the first faint glimpse of the ghost-like mountains rising out of the distant mists.  And oh, how I miss those days. Just writing this paragraph, I am saddened at the loss of those oh so memorable days, not so long ago:((

SAW THIS COMBINE RECEDING ACROSS A CORN FIELD SO I ZIPPED AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD TO GET THE PICTURES BELOW
THE COMBINE AND A TRACTOR TOWING A GRAIN BIN CAN BE SEEN COMING AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PHOTO
IT'S PLAIN TO SEE HOW THE COMBINE AND TRACTOR WORK IN UNISON HERE AS BOTH KEEP MOVING WHILE TRANSFERRING THE CORN
WHEN THE TRACTOR'S TRAILER IS FULL, IT PULLS AHEAD AS THE COMBINE CONTINUES  ON AND FILLS ITS OWN HOPPER FOR THE NEXT TRANSFER WHICH COULD BE ANOTHER TRACTOR HAULING A A COUPLE OF TRAILERS
Well, it's October 19th once again, and a day for me to remember.  Long-time readers will know what it is, but for any new readers, October 19th, 1979, was a day that changed my life.  I attended my first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and you can read my thoughts about that here at One Day At A Time.  I have now been sober for 46 years.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Every Wednesday night at St Rocco's Catholic Church there is a marriage seminarf or husbands. One night Father Gill asked Fabio to share his secrets for staying happily married for almost 50 years. Fabio explained that he’d tried to treat his wife nice, buy her a few things, and best of all, he took her to Rome for their 25th anniversary. Father Gill asked, “So what are you going to do for your 50th?”  Fabio proudly answered, “I’m gonna go back and pick her up!”

A husband stepped on one of those penny scales that tell you your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin. "Listen to this," he said to his wife, showing her a small, white card. "It says I'm energetic, bright, resourceful, and a great person." "Yeah," his wife nodded, "and it has your weight wrong, too."

The teacher noticed that Johnny had been daydreaming for a long time. She decided to get his attention."Johnny," she said, "If the world is 25,000 miles around and eggs are sixty cents a dozen, how old am I? "Thirty-four," Johnny answered unhesitatingly. The teacher replied, "Well, that's not far from my actual age. Tell me...how did you guess?" Oh, there's nothing to it," Johnny said. "My big sister is seventeen and she's only half-crazy."

A man and his young wife were in divorce court, but the custody of their children posed a problem. The mother leaped to her feet and protested to the judge that since she brought the children into this world, she should retain custody of them. The man also wanted custody of his children, so the judge asked for his justification. After a long silence, the man slowly rose from his chair and replied..."Your Honor, when I put a dollar in a vending machine and a Coke comes out, does the Coke belong to me or the machine?"

  2. Congrats on 46 years, Al! I am following in your footsteps... I marked 43 years sober last month. BTW, my first sponsor often said, "I don't care who knows I am an alcoholic as long as I don't forget it."

  3. Congrats on your sobriety! Who knew? My father returned from Vietnam with a need to drink. He’d drink and out-sleep the memories. I’m glad you’re with us. I enjoy your posts as much as I do your photos. Be well.

  8. Watch Sidetrack Adventures on YouTube. The videographer festures scenes and stories of the southwest. Watch his most recent ones. He is very close to camp Rucker. I would not be surprised if he didn’t even feature camp Rucker very soon. All of the Short films are interesting, even the ones way out in the middle of the desert where you think nothing much had ever happened. Jeff, the videographer, gives a short history of the scene and doesn’t waste time with junk. One of the ones even Featured camp Bouse, which was active during World War II. That ought to help your home sickness for the great American Southwest.
