WOODSY SURPRISES ME WITH A TWO WHEELER.....AND IT WASN'T A MOTORCYCLE

A BIG SURPRISE FOR ME TODAY: AND IT EVEN CAME WITH A BIG RED BOW ON IT:)))))
Late Friday afternoon, an unfamiliar car pulled into our driveway.  Woodsy had arrived earlier in the afternoon, and we were working in the front yard.  Walking over to the car, a man got out and proceeded to walk around the back of the car.  I assumed he was a delivery driver and had a parcel that Woodsy had probably ordered.  Little did I realize how very right I was and, how little I knew what it was. The man said something about a bicycle delivery and that of course confused me even more.  He proceeded to open the rear hatch of the car, and the second I saw what was inside, I knew exactly what it was.  I had just been completely fooled by a clever little Woodsy.  With my birthday coming up shortly, she had totally surprised me with a brand spanking new electric E-bike.  Just last Sunday, while in Goderich, we a had stopped into the 360 Bikes and Boards on Courthouse Square because we had been talking about electric bicycles lately and knew absolutely nothing about them.  The lady there (Denata) was very helpful with answering all of our questions.  We thought next Spring we'd maybe look into it a little more seriously.  After leaving the store and heading for the car, Woodsy said she'd forgot to get a drink holder for her manual bike holder, so she returned to get that while I proceeded to the car.  Little did I know that her reason for going back to the store was to purchase the one bicycle I had liked.  It is an NCM T3s E-Bike.  Woodsy had scheduled the bike to be delivered on the day of my birthday, but with the weatherman predicting a 75% chance of rain that day, she rescheduled the delivery for Friday so that I would have a few days of sunny, dry weather to fly around on my new E-bike.  And, fly around I certainly did.  Up and down the street, peddling, peddling with power assist, and full electric power.  These bikes really go!! I circled around our neighbor Monica's lawn a couple of times and then headed way down around the south end of our Park, where I got myself into the ruts of some bulldozer tracks, patches of loose sand, a few potholes, and a log across the road.  No problem with any of them and I had myself a blast. It reminded me so much of my early motorcycle days when everything was so excitingly terrifying.  A great big thank you to Woodsy for making my day in such a surprising way:)))))............
 A FRIDAY NIGHT SUNSET
Another amazingly nice day, Saturday, and we spent most of the morning cleaning out flower beds.  And, I think I caught all the little froggy fellas in our front yard frog pond.  Haven't seen any frogs for a couple of days now, so I think they are all now safely in the Park's big pond.  A few stops in Goderich this afternoon.  Food Basics, Giant Tiger, The Harbor, Rotary Cove, the 360 Bike Shop, and A&W for a couple of Teen Burgers.  Topped the day off with a cruise into Bayfield for a couple of ice cream cones at the Woodland Drive-In:))

LORRAINE (WOODSY) SNAPS OFF A FEW SUNSET PICS AT THE CORNER OF BAYFIELD RIVER ROAD AND TIPPERARY LINE
I didn't have any luck in finding the Aurora Borealis on Thursday night.  The northern sky remained colorless for the hour or so that I kept my eyes peeled, hoping to behold the dancing colors in the northern hemisphere.  Oh well, it was just nice being out in the countryside on an early October night.  I could see the lights of farm machinery as farmers worked through the darkness, harvesting their bean crops.

You are all probably tired of me saying what a nice day it is every day, so I won't bother mention what a nice day it was today.  Woodsy (Lorraine) and I headed out into the countryside this morning for a bike ride being careful to stay on paved roads.  It was a good workout for my aging legs whenever I decided to pedal.  We headed east on Bayfield River Road and north on Why's Line to Telephone Road and back home again. I had to make a few adjustments to my seat and the front fender.  This afternoon, we were on our bikes again and headed into Bayfield.  Our first stop on Main Street was for a couple of ice cream cones at Rosie's Ice Cream Shoppe.  From there, we cruised along Bayfield's Main Street, and out around a few of the lovely neighborhoods.  From there, it was down to the beach and right out onto the south pier with the bikes.  Woodsy climbed down over the large boulders alongside the pier and took herself for a walk in Lake Huron's warm waters.  After that, we headed on home, and it was so nice to sit my buns down in my big, soft, cushy recliner again.  Those bicycle seats can be a challenge.  All in all, we had a great day.  Woodsy has been an avid bicyclist for the past four years, and I was the same as a boy and young teenager with the exception of a dozen years ago when Kelly and I took our bikes to the southwest and enjoyed biking on the desert floor.  Like I've heard it said, 'One never forgets how to ride a bicycle'.  So true, and despite my beginner's Senior wobbliness, I am getting right back into it just like I was all those many years ago when I was a young boy in the small village of Tavistock Ontario, Canada.
I MAY HAVE TO INVEST IN A SOFTER SEAT...I'M THINKING A MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTOR SEAT:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A man is struck by a bus on a busy street in New York City. He lies dying on the sidewalk as a crowd of spectators gathers around.  A priest Somebody get me a priest! the man gasps. A policeman checks the crowd----no priest, no minister, no man of God of any kind. A PRIEST, PLEASE! the dying man says again. Then out of the crowd steps a little old Jewish man of at least eighty years of age. Mr. Policeman, says the man, "I'm not a priest. I'm not even a Catholic. But for fifty years now I've been living behind St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church on First Avenue, and every night I'm listening to the Catholic litany. Maybe I can be of some comfort to this man." The policeman agreed and brought the octogenarian over to where the dying man lay. He kneels down, leans over the injured man and says in a solemn voice: Under the B, 4. Under the I, 19. Under the N, 38. Under the G, 54. Under the O, 72.

There is a knock on the pearly gates. Saint Peter looks out, and a man is standing there. Saint Peter is about to begin his interview when the man disappears. A moment later, there’s another knock. Saint Peter gets to the door, sees the man, opens his mouth to speak, but the man disappears once again. “Hey, are you playing games with me?” Saint Peter calls after him, rather annoyed. “No,” the man’s distant voice replies anxiously. “They are trying to resuscitate me.”

  1. Congrats! Welcome to the world of e-bikes! We love love love ours. So much so we tow a cargo trailer behind the motorhome just to have them along with us now. We are camping right now near the Wisconsin Dells, and just got back from a 5 and 1/2 mile ride. We take Nick along behind in a little cart. It's a such a great way to get out and get fresh air in a little bit exercise. It's much easier on Steve's knees having "pedal assist", and also on my lungs. There is no way I ever thought it's 65 years old I would be on a bicycle again. But here I am!

  3. How wonderful! Woodsy found the PERFECT birthday gift, I think. She's an avid cyclist obviously and knows how good it is for overall health. So she's looking after your health, too, Al, besides bringing you great nutritious meals. And it gets you out into the fresh air too. And away from all the garden work. I'm so happy for you two. Well done, Woodsy!

  6. The perfect surprise!! You look great by the way. Glad to see you're already out giving it a whirl and enjoying the perfect weather days. Looks like fun getting down by the water. The seat is the worst part of a bicycle, fortunately they make lots of aftermarket seats that don't require surgical removal at the end of a ride! Love the rich colors in the gallery, the last one being my fav :-)
